Frostpunk 2 | City Unbound Ep. 8 - Cities and Colonies

In the final episode of City Unbound we’d like to dive deeper into a previously untouched feature—Colonies. In many ways, larger colonies are like cities themselves, with their own economy, logistics, and colonists. To establish a colony, you’ll have to relocate part of the population from the main city. While New London retains control—there are no independent delegates and votings in the colonies—each outpost requires careful management. If managed well, these colonies can become vital hubs, specializing in food production or oil extraction.

We are thrilled to announce that the game’s modding tool - that we like to call FrostKit - will be available from the release in its beta version.
Mod support - particularly for creating maps and scenarios - has been frequently mentioned by you for years, ever since the launch of the first Frostpunk. However, the original game and its in-house engine had limitations preventing us from making it happen, but now that we switched to Unreal Engine, things are totally different.

With the FrostKit you will be able to create custom maps, populate them with custom models, and set their new cities - whether ancient, cosmic, or differentiated in thousands of other ways from the original frosty-apocalypse setting - against custom scenarios.
The beta version of the modding tool will enable creators to access most of its functionalities, although these will be iteratively upgraded while taking your feedback into consideration. It will serve us as a valuable insight into what works well and what needs improvement. To kick off this process, the tool will be first tested through a closed beta with selected members of the modding community before the official release.
It’s our first time introducing a modding tool and it’s very likely that we won’t do everything perfectly on the first try but we’re committed to eventually make it the best we possibly can!
