While we are working on the next update, we want to share some other news about the development of Frozen Flame.




One of the cornerstones of our world and lore are characters, whom you meet along the way. And we always try to give them unforgettable stories and voices. And to make their voices unique, recognizable, and memorable we decided to invite several streamers to lend their voices to our characters. We feel that their voices are the most suitable to represent those characters and bring them to life.
Now let us introduce our new cast:

CohhCarnage as The Blacksmith. You can already meet and hear him in the game.
Alvaena as Dora.
BloodyFaster as Witch.

And wait for more news - they are coming!

January Community Feedback

Pilgrims!

While we diligently work on the update, your feedback doesn’t go unnoticed. We see that you have a lot of different requests and suggestions that will improve Frozen Flame even further. This is why we want your opinion about the priorities of the most requested changes and planned features for Frozen Flame.

We created a separate category on our Discord server - #roadmap-poll - on our server. There are forum channels where you can vote on the priority of the aforementioned changes.

We are waiting for your opinions. And you can expect all the information about the changes that will be made to the roadmap after the end of Base Builder Fest.

Upcoming Changes


The most meaningful changes made based on your feedback will appear in Update #3 which is coming at the end of this month:
  • Tuned craft time for the following items times: stone blocks, iron, and mithril ingots;
  • Improved mithril and coal farming;
  • Added 3 new types of building modules that were planned for Update #4;
  • Decreased weight of some armor;
  • Increased weight capacity of the backpack.

It will also include fixes for the following bugs:
  • One of the mobs might not spawn during the quest Dungeon Secrets;
  • Lightning storm clouds could not be displayed and shoot down the flight in random places;
  • Trees and other resources will no longer spawn in houses.

Future Plans


We are also taking into consideration your other feedback. This is why we added 2 new tags to #game-feedback channel in Discord. First tag - Selected - is reserved for changes that we are planning to implement in one way or another. Second tag - Review - is reserved for changes that we are considering for implementation.

With this post, we launch our regular Q&A with our players to improve Frozen Flame. Tune in after the end of Base Builder Fest to learn about the changes to the roadmap.

Frozen Flame | Update #2 Hotfix 0.70.0.1



Greetings, pilgrims!

Here are some changes and fixes we implemented as soon as we could.

At the players' requests:

  • Forge now produces resources indefinitely, adding them to stacks. Now you can queue up a bunch of stone blocks and continue exploring the Dragon's Grove without worrying about your production.
  • A peace treaty has been signed with the rams - they will no longer attack players as long as players don't provoke them. Their respawn time has been increased.
  • The Mountain King developed a dire need for the Heavenly Crystals. From now on he'll gladly accept them in exchange for the Nature Crystals or the Mithril Helmet recipe.

Other fixes:

  • Fixed the bug causing game settings to reset.
  • Fixed the issue causing some dishes to grant unintentionally high HP gains, and some - no boons at all.
  • When used as an ingredient, apples now grant bonus physical resistance.
  • Ghosts have once again gained ability to deal damage.
  • Manticores became more aggressive and gained some extra HP.
  • Soles are now appropriately displayed while wearing the Mithril armor set.
  • Fixed the issue causing texts of some Memorials to get covered by their images.

Update #2: Welcome to the Dragon’s Grove

NEW BIOME: DRAGON’S GROVE





Centennial pines still remember the reign of the great dragons, and Library archives keep chronicles about life side by side with those winged giants. Now only bones scattered across the islands remind us of their former glory.

Before the Rift this was a much different place: dragons shared their knowledge with humanity, and the Orders kept peace. In those days, the Curse was just a long-forgotten legend from folios’ pages.



Explore the islands of the Dragon’s Grove, and learn more about the world of Arcana. New acquaintances will tell you about Frozen Flame, Orders, and previous inhabitants of these lands.

Harsh weather conditions and new enemies will impose a great challenge upon Pilgrims.
  • New biome: the Dragon’s Grove
  • New places to explore: Library of the Keepers, Forge, Abandoned Mine, Islands of Woodhead and Julia, Hornhead’s Cave, Floating Tower, and many more!
  • New NPCs: The Blacksmith, Julia, the Underground King, Fisherman, the Buried, the Blind man, Coward, the Tavern Keeper, the Wishing Well.
  • 17 new islands.
  • A multitude of new enemies, resources, and items to craft.

CONTINUATION OF THE MAIN CAMPAIGN





The Curse destroys all the best in any creature, granting it, in exchange, destructive powers. Enemies on the islands became stronger and their weaponry - even more dangerous. Pilgrims will have to carefully prepare for engagements with new foes.
  • New, stronger Cursed: defenders, warriors, mages, archers.
The scent of pine resin is extremely attractive for manticores, so, unsurprisingly, those creatures can be frequently encountered in the Dragon’s Grove. One strike of their mighty paw with razor-sharp claws can shred a boar to scraps. And, much like smaller felines that like to push things off the table, manticores have a habit of pushing clueless Pilgrims from cliffs…



Lamb is a nutritious meal that can warm you up even in the coldest weather. But rams of the Dragon’s Grove won’t give up without a fight - their heavy horns can knock down even a Stone Elemental.



Red bubbles, unlike their cerulean cousins, are hostile to others even during the day. Perhaps, their fiery temper is fueled by their love to spit out fire. Those bubbles attack any living creature on sight with their accurate flaming shots.
  • New enemies: manticores, rams, fire bubbles.
  • New quests.
  • New items for trade.

NEW IDOL KEEPERS





Keepers of the Dragon’s Grove are much more dangerous than bosses of the Broken Valley. This time, preparation is crucial to achieving victory. Their destructive power will become a dangerous challenge for Pilgrims.
Defeat bosses and search for the hearts of the great dragons. They will open a Portal to the next biome, which is already in development.
  • New elite keepers.
  • To open a new portal you will need 5 artifacts.

IRON WEAPONS AND ARMOR





Craft armor and weapons worthy of a true warrior. Find ore, smelt it into ingots in the blast furnace and discover new recipes for a blacksmith’s workbench.
Plate and chain armor allow you to take the heaviest of blows. And with newly forged weapons you will become a dangerous opponent for any enemy.
  • 3 new workstations.
  • 2 new armor sets and the ability to craft Leather armor.
  • Metal weapons.

IMPROVED BUILDING





Build a true stone fortress!
Blast furnaces for smelting iron and burning stones will allow you to create ingots and stone blocks to build a new house.
  • New stone building modules.
  • New resources to smelt: coal and mithril.
  • New furniture types: armory, wooden bed, and metal floor lamp.
  • Now you can place torches anywhere to light your path.

In future updates, we will add new types of building modules requested by players.


Gameplay
  • New item: big torch.
  • Added 10 new Steam achievements.
  • Bosses no longer respawn upon re-logging into the game.
  • Changed resource cost of Deconstructor.
  • Improved localization.
  • Improved balance.
  • Decreased durability for all bows.

Map
  • Added new resource types: berry bushes, fish, and mushrooms.
  • Added new environmental detail - medium bushes.
  • Rectified the position of quest beams.
  • Added invisible barriers between biomes.

Animations
  • New over-encumbered run animations.
  • Reworked two-handed sword animations

UI
  • Added new icons for gamepad buttons and target-lock.
  • Now you can switch between quests on a gamepad.

Fixes
  • Fixed the quest with Skelly’s musical stones (if you weren’t able to interact with stones - now you can redo the quest).
  • Fixed an issue which caused players to get stuck in a scaffold on the Titan’s arena.
  • Players no longer see each other's flames after death.
  • Fixed cooldown of spells after re-logging.
  • Fixed an issue which caused players to get stuck after a long interaction with a craft station.
  • Fixed an issue which caused the tutorial widget to overlap the dialogue window.
  • Fixed minor issues in the settings menu.

Update #1: Portal to Christmas

Christmas Event





Ho ho ho! Hope that you behaved yourself this year because we have prepared a special gift. An island, filled to the brim with sounds of bells and smell of Christmas trees, is already available in the Sanctuary.

There you can meet Krampus, and every Pilgrim can find a lot of beautiful decorations in his bag. He is ready to part with them for luscious gingerbread - Arcana’s traditional festive dish. The more sweets you will find the more decorations for your house you will be able to acquire.

Look for the beacons in the Broken Valley - they will lead you to the Christmas presents with gingerbread (but, maybe, you will stumble across something even more interesting).

  • Brand new Christmas island: a portal appeared in Sanctuary.
  • New NPC-trader - Krampus.
  • New item: gingerbread. You can eat it (and get a speed boost) or exchange it for decorations with Krampus.
  • Christmas presents appeared everywhere!

Festive decorations





In winter, it is a custom to decorate not only the Christmas tree but also your own house. And decorations, which you can get from Krampus, will help you with that.
Wooden furniture, candles, lamps, and many other items will help you adorn your house and fill it with coziness and warmth. We will proceed to add more decorations in the future.

  • 10 new decorations to embellish the interior.

Difficulty settings on the game start





It is important to us that everyone will be able to play Frozen Flame at their own pace. So we added a difficulty choice at the start of Local Play. You can also change the difficulty for already existing games.
For those who love customization, we added an option to ignore difficulty settings by using line bIgnoreDifficulty = true; in the Game.ini file.

Gamepad improvements



This update brings you much-needed changes for gamepad controls: we have improved existing functions and added new ones. We also expanded gamepad support for inventory and other interfaces.
We have also introduced target lock into the game - now you will be able to choose and focus on one target.
You can expect even more improvements for gamepad controls in the future.

  • Added target lock.
  • Added an option to decrease sensitivity even further.

Emotion menu





Dance, cry, laugh or scream - now it will be even easier to show your emotions in the game. The new menu allows you to choose any emotion without the need to type it in the chat.

Idols of Broken Valley





Battles with the bosses of Broken Valley are now more dangerous than ever. Even the forces of nature will fight against you alongside the Cursed.
Poisonous thorns, fire traps, fierce blizzards - overcome these challenges to reach the boss. But this fight can’t be won with brute strength and sharp weapons - only with dexterity and wits.

  • Improved boss arenas in Broken Valley.

Stone stove





We saw that a lot of players place bonfires in their houses, so we decided to add a stone stove. It is not only a decoration but also a place to cook your food and keep you warm.
Now bonfires can only cook recipes that require one ingredient, while a stove allows you to cook 2-ingredient recipes.

  • New item: stone stove.
  • The number of cooking slots in bonfires was reduced to 1.

New Woodhead





We updated Woodhead’s model to make him look more otherworldly and magical. His animations were also improved.

  • Woodhead’s model was updated.

Player's requests


We listen to your feedback. And, to improve QoL even further, we have made some further changes to old mechanics or introduced entirely new ones:

  • Increased the drop rate of all berries and leaves.
  • Added a reward for an island with a huge monument (for the bravest).
  • Recipes that use full waterskin will no longer consume the item entirely, but give you empty waterskin back.
  • Sheltered effect now also protects you from the cold.
  • Mannequins can be placed on the ground now.
  • The number of slots in chests increased to 32.

  • Fixed an issue that created a second object in the archaeologist’s quest.
  • Fixed ability to teleport with over-encumbrance.
  • Fixed a bug that made the healing spell constant after leaving the game.
  • Fixed invulnerable monsters.
  • Fixed problems with interactions with musical gravestones.
  • Fixed an issue, when you could get stuck in Titan’s Head.

Frozen Flame | Update №1: Portal to Christmas

Greetings, pilgrims!

Currently, we are working on the first update for the game, which you can expect in the first half of December.

Combat



We are continuing to improve the combat system. This hotfix includes the following changes:

  • Reduced delay between attacks of melee weapons;
  • Improved hitboxes for all melee weapons;
  • Power attack damage for axes, swords, and clubs was increased by 100%;
  • Combo for one-handed sword was made simpler;

Bug fixes



At the same time, we prepared some bug fixes for the current version:

  • Fixed a crash on older systems when you entered the Map screen;
  • Now you can turn off gamepad vibration in settings;
  • MonsterDamageMultiplier setting now works correctly;
  • We have removed FlameRate variable (it wasn’t working correctly and was breaking gameplay), instead we introduce LevelUpFlameRate, which allows scaling the required amount of flame for a level-up (experimental for now, work well only in Local coop);
  • Minor improvements;

Today’s update is focused on improving quality of life by adding additional gameplay settings.

New gameplay settings



Fly settings

We have noticed that you didn’t like that we took away your ability to fly inside energy barriers. This shouldn’t be the case in the first place - it was just a bug that crawled into the Early Access release. But we heard you and added an option to turn this off. Please keep in mind that Cradle of Keepers was designed with this limitation in mind.

Encumbrance

Your feedback made it evident that the current encumbrance system is simply not enjoyable, so we decided to tune it. Now when the character is over-encumbered, they won't be so severely slowed down, but won't be able to sprint. However, if you carry too much (above 100% of the max carry weight), you will face some limitations. We also added a toggle and a setting for the encumbrance threshold.

Other settings

  • Changed the name of an argument that was responsible for the health received after the resurrection.
  • Added an argument that allows you to change the amount of refunded resources after you demolish building modules.

Local Play settings

Fixes



  • Fixed a bug that prevented some players from crafting Loom. You can find it on Artisan Table.
  • Changed the maximum number of items in a stack for planks and other resources.
  • Log weight was reduced.
  • Fixed ritual in Bard Island. Now it completes automatically.

We’re ready to release the next patch, which includes plenty of fixes and gameplay improvements. Version 0.65.0.4 includes following changes:

Gameplay

  • Added the Loom to the Artisan Table blueprints - now you can craft all the cloth you’d ever need;
  • All modules that do not require a foundation are no longer affected by decay, including bonfires, fences, garden beds, etc.
  • Solid Essence now restores 25 durability points of items (instead of 25%).
  • Increased the time for which logs fuel a bonfire.
  • Pots are now fueled with branches instead of logs.
  • Changed the bonfire crafting recipe.
  • The “heat” status is no longer visible on the UI.
  • Changed the loot for secret chests in the Broken Valley.
  • Added a sign in front of a portal to the Dragon’s Grove.

Balance

  • Garden beds and pots now produce items faster.
  • Tree chopping now takes less time.
  • Sawmills now produce planks faster.
  • Sawmills now produce more planks per log.
  • Increased the number of branches dropped from trees: from 3-6 to 4-8.
  • Increased the drop rate of bones and crystals from monsters (especially ghosts).

Combat

  • Increased the base amount of stamina: from 80 to 100.
  • Increased the stamina recovery speed.
  • Increased the combat energy accumulation speed.
  • Increased the staff’s DoT effect: from 2 to 3.
  • Reduced the amount of HP of Ironbound and the elite ghosts of the Broken Valley.
  • Reduced the durability loss for weapons and armor.

Fixes

  • Fixed some of the discovered issues in Dedicated Server functionality.
  • Fixed the issue, blocking players from progressing into the Sanctuary after the Ice Elemental fight.
  • Players can now find an interaction point that leads to the Sanctuary.
  • Fixed the issue, which caused DirectX 12 to be chosen by default.
  • Fixed the duplicates of the Poison Boar pelt being dropped in the Woodhead’s quest.
  • Fixed the issue of the no-flight zone effect display.
  • Fixed the issue, preventing players from deleting certain servers from their server lists.
  • Fixed the issue, which allowed to players build while flying.


At the beginning of December, we’re planning to release Update #1, which will also include some of the new improvements based on your feedback.

We’re also working on the next major biome, including numerous islands, new enemies, gear, quests, etc. So, stay tuned! There’s plenty of work ahead of us.
