Fuchian Chronicles Demo now Available!

Happy holidays everyone! I hope the season has been treating you well. That said, I’m here with an early Christmas present for you all: a demo for Fuchian Chronicles!

The demo is standalone, and tells a story not found in the base game. It takes place between Chapter 2 and 3 of the base game, and follows a new character, Captain Inka, as she conducts an important rescue operation to save a GFE spy. I wanted to release a demo earlier, but decided it was better to do so when there was more content available in the base game first. Besides, I think having the additional context would enhance the experience, whether you play the base game first or the demo first.

In addition to the demo being released, I also made a few minor changes to the base game. They are as follows:

- Some enemies have been weakened a little. More specifically, I reduced their stats a little and tweaked the AI so they don’t heal as often.
- The “L” key is now a shortcut for opening the save menu. The quickload issue I mentioned in the previous update is unfortunately proving harder to solve than I thought. So until I do, I hope this makes up for it a little. “F5” still quicksaves as before, so you can use that.
- Weapon Proficiency has been tweaked. It now takes more shots to gain proficiency, but multi-hit skills now grant proficiency as well, per hit (i.e. “Spreadshot” grants proficiency three times if all three shots hit). It’s easier to gain proficiency (and “levels”) in the demo to better show how it works.
- Bunnoid weapons can now be disassembled for materials. Due to a quirk in how equipment are tagged by the engine, this only applies to newly acquired equipment (or if you start a new game). Unwanted equipment can still be sold, so you can get use out of them that way. I’ll likely add more stuff to the list of equipment you can disassemble later.
- Some of the descriptions in the options menu have been updated to be clearer. Hopefully that'll reduce confusion as to what the options do.
- Toggling Fullscreen is now an option in the options menu. You can still toggle it using F4 if you’d like.

You may notice that some parts of the databank unlocks differently in the demo than it does in the base game. It is how I would eventually like it to work, but as new databank entries are being added with each chapter, I have chosen to implement the new unlock method when the base game is complete.

That’s it for this update! No price increase this time because it makes no sense to do so for a demo release. As always, please let me know if you encounter any bugs in either the demo or base game. I will have time to fix bugs for the rest of December, but I’ll be visiting family in January so I likely won’t have time to work on the game or fix any bugs until I get back. Development of Chapter 5 will start in February, and I’ll make an update post then when I have something to show!

Once again, thank you for checking out the demo (and hopefully the base game!), and happy holidays!

Chapter 4 Hotfix 3

Fix a bug where one of the achievements was given in the wrong place. Thanks again to Nether for catching it!

Chapter 4 Hotfix 2

I fixed a portrait bug in Chapter 2 a little before release... and it messed up a transfer event. It's been patched now, thanks to Nether for catching it!

Chapter 4 Hotfix 1

Fixed a bug where a fight in the city didn't trigger properly. Thanks to Dragaron_GER for catching this one!

Hotfix for maps in Chapter 2 not loading

Fixed a bug where some maps in Chapter 2 were not loading in, thus completely blocking progress. My sincerest apologies to anyone who encountered the bug and could not play the game.

Minor Delay to Chapter 4 Release

Well, I was worried about this ever since I made the previous update post. The script is finished, but it took longer than I expected (there’s nearly double the word count compared to Chapter 3!). I don’t think it’ll take as long to add everything into the game, but to be safe I’m going to say Chapter 4 will be released within 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, here's a poster I made for the game!

Thank you for your patience, and I hope you look forward to the release!

Chapter 4 Progress Update 2

Month two of developing Chapter 4! All the new maps have been finished, and so I’ve moved onto writing the script.

And that’s it! See you next time!

…I jest, but the truth is I’ve had to take on a few side jobs to help pay the bills, so progress this month has been slower than I would like (did you know I did the maps for Sierra Lee’s Once Ever After, and a few maps for her other game, The Last Sovereign?). At this point I can’t say for sure if this will lead to a delay to the planned release of Chapter 4 in a month or so, but wanted to give you guys a heads up in case there is. I’d also like to take this opportunity to reassure you guys that I will finish the game even if I need to take a full time job to pay bills, though if it does come to that, each chapter will likely take much longer to release.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s get back to Chapter 4.

Right now I don’t plan on adding any new major features/mechanics for this chapter, mainly to reduce the odds of additional delays. There will still be new items, enemies, and equipment of course, just no new brand new mechanics like how I added weapon proficiency and equipment modding in Chapter 3. I do have a few other ideas I’d like to implement, but those are mainly on the backburner… except one.

The Demo!

I know the importance of demos for games, but decided against making one since I felt it was unfair to have one while only one or two chapters were released as paid content. This is why I’m only making a demo once Chapter 4 is released. Yes, making a demo, as in it’ll be new content. I already roughly mapped out how it’ll go and just need to work out a few kinks and plot consistencies to make sure it ties in well with established events. Based on my plans, it probably won’t be as long as a full chapter, but should fill in a bit of the story that I couldn’t fit in before.

That’s it for this update! Hope you look forward to the release!

Minor Update - New Savings Features and Fixed Playtime Tracking

- Updated saving system. Autosaves now have a dedicated save slot which cannot be manually saved into, thanks to CloudyCloudcloud for the suggestion! While I was at it, I also added quicksaving/quickloading to the game (which also comes with its own dedicated save slot). Press F5 to quicksave and F9 to quickload. Of course, you still won’t be able to quicksave/load when saving/loading is disabled.
- Fixed playtime tracking. Apparently the way playtime was being tracked was dependent on your computer/monitor’s FPS, meaning that you could have a drastically different playtime than reality. That’s been fixed now, and the playtime should reflect real time. Don’t worry if you see play time as “Na : Na : Na”, it’ll go back to normal when you next make a save. It does reset the time to “00 : 00 : 00” though, thank you for understanding. There’s also an option in the debug menu to reset the playtime in case the timer does not fix itself, or if you want to reset it for any reason. Thanks to Screethegargoyle for catching this!
- Did you know that taking a shower (either at home or in the crew bathrooms) actually gives you a minor buff to agility and evasion for the chapter? Well now you do! And now when you take a shower, you’ll be notified about the buff.
- Fixed a few instances where the incorrect portrait was shown in Chapter 3.

Chapter 4 Progress Update 1

It’s been about a month since Chapter 3 was released, and it’s been a busy one. Chapter 4 has been planned out and I’ve been working on new maps for it, here’s a sneak peek at some of the new content!

You might think that the aesthetic looks familiar, and you’d be right. Chapter 4 has Kimi and Jeanne returning to Gliese Delta, the primitive planet they went to for training back in Chapter 1. A lot has changed in the months since then. They graduated from the academy, war with the bunnoids broke out, and Gliese Delta itself was formally annexed into the Empire. So what’s going on here? You’ll have to find out when the chapter is released! You might even see some familiar faces, if you did a certain thing way back when.

Chapter 4 also marks the first major departure from the original game, Space Fox Kimi, and I expect there to be more deviations in future chapters. I’m also planning on making a demo for the game now that a few chapters have been released. It will have new content/story that’s not part of the main game, but I’m still working out the details so I’ll leave it at that for now.

Follow me on Twitter @ShenTzuGames for more frequent updates, and as always, thank you for playing my game and for helping me with bug reporting and suggestions! I hope you enjoyed the game so far, and hope you’ll look forward to Chapter 4!

Chapter 3 Hotfix 2

Fixed a infinite message loop bug that occurs if the player's fighters were shot down in Chapter 3.

Thanks to CloudyCloudcloud for catching this!
