FurBalls Racing

Update Notes for February 5th, 2023 (v1.0.3)

    Gameplay Changes

  • CPU players no longer shoot projectiles behind themselves; they only aim at characters ahead of them
  • Small adjustments have been made to a few boost pads in Space Base Speedway to make a wall rolling section more consistent for the small characters
  • A few platforms in Terminal Road are now slightly bigger to make it a bit easier

    Fixes & improvements

  • Fixed certain characters slowing down a lot when holding towards a wall they are climbing right after getting an upwards boost
  • Slight performance optimizations (most notably in split-screen multiplayer)
  • Fixed squishing animations being slightly affected by framerate
  • Fixed an oversight where the game wouldn't tell you when you've unlocked the secret extra mode for time trials

    Misc

  • Slightly shortened certain unlock messages
  • The title screen now says v1.0.3 in the bottom right; please make sure you have the same version as your friends if you want to play online with them

As usual, if anyone finds any other bugs or issues, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Update Notes For February 2nd, 2023

  • Reduced the rate at which CPU players shoot projectiles when on casual difficulty
  • Fixed the secret unlockable option for time trials mode always showing as 'On' when grand prix difficulty was set to medium, even when it was actually off internally
  • The title screen now shows 'v1.0.2' in the bottom right; if you want to play online with friends, please make sure you all have the same version

If there are any other bugs or issues that I've missed, please let me know and I'll do my best to fix them!

New Panic Inducing Game Mechanics!

Here's the biggest update since the first demo release - featuring new game mechanics, better visuals, and smarter CPU players! Check out the video for an in-depth look at the new mechanics!

  • Projectiles now try to home in on opponents, and give the targeted player a warning
  • Projectiles can be held around the player to block other projectiles (or attack other players) at the temporary cost of top speed
  • Added more food pickups in certain stages
  • Improved several textures and materials, some of which now have sub surface scattering
  • Updated all flags to use Unity's cloth system
  • Added more objects to most stages (trees, rocks, snowmen, etc.)
  • Various AI adjustments: instead of just being faster when set to fierce, CPU players can now take various shortcuts and spinboost more often, so they're more intelligent and fair
  • Casual and medium AI difficulties have also been tweaked to be more consistent across the different stages (before, they were really good at a certain stage, and really bad at another)
  • Redone all staff ghosts: expert ghosts are a little easier than before
  • Songs now have seamless loop points in all stages and the main menu
  • Added simple stage title intros
  • Added more signs to the tutorial to explain the new projectile mechanics
  • Improved performance of a few scriptshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEW0CNc94zA

Free Demo Update!

Hi everyone!

For today's update, almost all of the changes are the results of useful feedback, so thanks to everyone who gave their opinions or uploaded videos of their gameplay!

Besides quality of life changes, one big focus of this update was on improving the spin drifting mechanic. It's been tweaked to be easier to use and to understand, and the signs in the tutorial have been updated to explain it better.

However, most of the work time these past couple months was actually spent on something not in the demo, and not listed below: online multiplayer, which will now make it in to the final, full game! Specific details about it will have to wait until later.

Now for the demo's changelog:

    New additions:

  • Graphics and sound options can now be changed from the pause menu
  • Added new camera sensitivity options to the pause menu
  • Grand Prix races now keep track of your total time and show it at the end
  • Cameras now have colliders and try to avoid clipping through the environment

    Improvements:

  • Adjusted spin drifting to be easier (especially for gamepad users)
  • Adjusted and added signs in the tutorial to help clarify how spin drifting and boosting works
  • Reduced respawn delay time (it's now 1.2 seconds when it used to be roughly 2 seconds)
  • Reduced knockback and hitstun taken from poop projectiles
  • Updated Unity engine version from 2019 LTS to 2021 LTS
  • Improved fur shader
  • Increased the vertical look range for both keyboard + mouse users and gamepad users
  • Separated vertical look from zooming in, which now has its own input explained in the tutorial (holding the 'Y' button for gamepad users and scrolling the mouse wheel for keyboard + mouse users)
  • The default camera sensitivity for keyboard + mouse users is much lower than before

    Fixes:

  • Fixed lag caused by the dynamic snow when lots of characters and objects were deforming it simultaneously
  • Fixed CPU players in the tutorial only shooting projectiles at the player and not at each other
  • Fixed camera stutter when looking up or down with keyboard + mouse controls (especially on low end computers)
  • Fixed minor camera stutter that sometimes occurred when boosting
  • Fixed incorrectly aligned meshes on CPU players in the tutorial
  • Fixed main menu UI scaling incorrectly when using an ultra-wide aspect ratio
  • Many other minor tweaks and fixes

There are also a few changes previously released in another update that were not given an official changelog at the time. The biggest of those changes are as follows:

  • Revamped background environments
  • Added rank suffixes ('1st' instead of '1', '2nd' instead of '2', etc.)

If you find any bugs or issues, or have any other feedback you want to share, please feel free to let me know!

FurBalls Racing - Beta Demo Release

The free demo is out now! So what does it have?

  • The tutorial level, where other FurBalls try to show you all the mechanics you'll need to know
  • Six playable characters, each one having unique properties
  • The first cup, the Fuzzy Cup, which includes the first four stages of the game
  • Grand Prix mode, where you can face a bunch of CPU players to try to earn that fuzzy trophy
  • Time Trials mode, which includes two levels of staff ghosts per stage, so eight staff ghosts to beat in total! Good luck if you try to beat the expert ghosts :)
  • Four different tiers of medals you can earn for every stage, depending on how fast you are. Try to get all gold medals, or if you're fast enough, all platinum medals!
  • Support for four players in split screen for both Grand Prix AND Time Trials
  • A surprisingly high skill ceiling for the more competitive players

Enjoy! :)
