The biggest change has been a long time coming, the addition of Steam Achievements. There are are a lot possible in this game, but the first batch are achievements for the nine official game secrets. These are hidden, naturally for a secret. Until now, it wasn't even specified how many there were. Enjoy finding them all.
There are a few smaller changes, including lots of new celebrity additions to the permanent game universe, from Yuri Gagarin to Gene Roddenberry, and a different background colour to the credits.
More DLC is on the way, the new We Robot Music Pack is due out at the end of this month to celebrate the release of my new single AI and Celebrity.
There are a few exciting changes this time:
-First, there are new coloured dots for each genre of Engine. This really helps in finding the engine you want, and helps you see how a sound is put together at a glance. The manual and screenshots all needed updating after this new look!
-New keyboard controls of -/= for prev/next sound. This can speed up your work train when darting through the list of sounds.
-Setting a conversion matrix now checks that the destination plugin is installed to prevent 'not found' errors during loading. Ok, you probably don't use conversion matrices at all yet, but this is a good upgrade for the future.
-Reset Creation Date option added to Project menu. Useful for template projects, so that an ancient date isn't always there as the date of inception.
-Loading projects now sets the current engine to the first environment engine. Before this, projects with no sounds would crash upon loading if a sound engine is current.
-Removing Genus Pan or Genus Reverb engines now returns the number of engines removed. Removing these can help with custom stereo to mono mixing, or when reverbs are part of the sound rather than environment design.
The update is now live for the full and demo versions. Check out SFXEngine here:
Today the first DLC for SFXEngine has been announced! The Analogue VCF engine is coming in September. More updates for SFXEngine are coming later this month.
Greetings Strategy Fans! Welcome to the first Taskforce update in over a year. Quite a few changes in this one...
FIRST! The campaign is now fully unlocked so you can play any mission in any order. This is quite a radical change but instantly improves the game. The original Amiga Taskforce from 1994, and Hilt II, both allowed any mission to be chosen. All of the training missions are available from the start too. Doing this avoids any worries or annoyances about losing campaign progress, and instantly adds a lot to the game for new buyers.
Secondly, Steam Achievements have been added, as current players will see in their Steam pages. There are lots of possibilities here, so there's an Achievement for completing each mission on each difficulty, and one for each training mission on Elite (some are harder than others!). There is an Achievement for completing the last mission and defeating Morgane (on any difficulty), but this is (ironically) easier than some of the others and will probably be superseded one day...
3. (I'll switch to numbers now): The Config.txt file is now loaded/saved to the game main folder rather than using the Windows 'Documents' folder, because Windows complains about security when looking in Documents. This shouldn't make any difference to players.
4. The screenwidth/screenheight/adapter options in the Config.txt now work, they didn't before, it was a bug. So you can at last set a custom screen mode.
And that's it apart from minor updates to the code. The demo includes the new features too. Thanks to the people who have bought the game in the past year, this update happened because of your sales. Find Taskforce here:

SFXEngine Updated to v1.29
SFXEngine has been updated today to v1.29.
There are four main changes:
-Keyboard input now only acted upon when SFXEngine is in the foreground. This is a useful fix, as the keyboard was always active previously and could cause silly errors.
-New skin layout.
-3x1 icons with submenus now feature a white point in the top right corner. This is most useful for modulator processing, as many icons featured context menus which were not obvious.
-New Max icon on the Sample Window will maximise/normalise the sample.
The update is now live for the full and demo versions. Check out SFXEngine here:

SFXEngine Released!
Our premiere sound effects software, SFXEngine, is now released.
SFXEngine is the fastest and most flexible way to create and manage new sounds. All of the Cornutopia Games, and countless others over the last 15 years, have used SFXEngine to create their sound effects. Now for the first time, this software is available to anyone, from game developers, to film makers, to musicians.
SFXEngine uses a row of sound processors that are applied simply one to another in a chain. This is how many software synthesizers work but SFXEngine is different in that it removes complex signal chains, and is optimised for single pitches rather than music. Any parameter of every engines, from filter frequencies, to saw-wave pitches, to sample volumes can be modulated by attaching a waveform to it. These modulator waves are wav files themselves, allowing lots of editing potential.
The program has a free-to-try demo with full editing capabilities, and as part of this release, some classic sound effects from Cornutopia Games will be made public on https://marksheeky.itch.io shortly so people can play around with those sounds.
Happy playing,
Mark
SFXEngine Coming Soon
Time to make a first announcement!
The next Cornutopia release will be SFXEngine, unique audio creation software for creating sound effects. All of the sound effects for the Cornutopia Games were created using SFXEngine, and sound effects for many other commercial game titles from PC to Nintendo 3DS, as well as most of the 13,000 strong IndieSFX game sound effects library.
The key to SFXEngine's power is ease of use. It uses a modular chain of sound processors, termed Engines, to quickly layer sounds. Any parameter of any engine can be changed at whim, or transformed over time using a modulator, which in the case of SFXEngine is a simple wav file itself, so it's easy to design complex envelopes and oscillators without the complexity of editing ADSR envelopes.
Optimised for monotone sound effects, unlike music synthesizers, SFXEngine acts as a creation tool and a librarian for groups of sound effects.
SFXEngine is high-end audio production software, with all unique audio algorithms and internal 32-bit processing throughout, but will be targeted at game developers at every level.
SFXEngine will launch on June 23rd at $75, including a 25% launch discount.
