Bugs Hotfix

Hello galactic pilots!

A new minor update was just released that fixes two bugs:
1. Fixed co-op level #24 being impossible to finish (thanks to Mal and jackcat1423 for the report!)
2. Fixed single player sometimes controlling both ships in co-op (thanks to Drake for the report!)

Thanks very much for the community's reports of these bugs! It is always extremely appreciated!

As always, have fun!

New Terrain Update!

Hello spaceship pilots!

We are excited to announce an exciting new major update to Galactic Lander!

Welcome to a new world of limitless possibilities, where you will have the challenging task of piloting your spaceship in brand new tunnels across the galaxy that are more smooth and less chunky.
We look forward to hearing your discoveries in these new levels!

Explore the newly shaped tunnels we have marked for you, or create your own in the level editor and publish them to the Steam Workshop!

Pilot your spaceship alone, or with a friend in both local and over-the-net co-op!

We hope you will enjoy this update as much as we had making it!

Good luck, and as always, have fun!

Galactic Lander Goes Open-Source

Disclaimer, this announcement was supposed to public on the 4th of October but failed to do so, sorry!

Hello!

I am pleased to announce that today, on the 4th of October, exactly three years since Galactic Lander was released on Steam, I have made Galactic Lander's source code available for all to see and temper with on GitHub!

The code is under MIT license, so you can do it with as you please.
Feel free to look around the code and see how certain features or parts of the game were made!

Thank You!

Making Galactic Lander was very fun for me, but I feel like what was the most enjoyable for me was the community interaction I was able to have after the game's release.

After Galactic Lander was released, so many people began playing the game, expressing their feedback and opinions, created workshop levels, and leaving reviews!

Thank you so much for everyone who has played my game these past three years. Hearing people play my game and talk about it and create workshop items for it has been so much fun for me, even more than actually making the game in the first place.

Thank you!

And as always, fellow gentle-and-way-too-explosive-space-ships pilots, have fun and game on!

'Small Improvements' Update

Greetings!

It's been a very long time since we got an update for Galactic Lander, but it's finally here!
This update brings one quality-of-life improvement and some other changes, let's take a look.

Smoother Co-op Loading

Loading into a level with your buddy in co-op should feel a little more pleasant.
While waiting for all players to properly load into the level and get in sync, you can look at this minimalist screen and read a quick tip!

Missile Upgrades

The new missile may look the same as the old one, but don't let that deceive you!

This update fixes an annoying bug where the missile touches/pushes the player, but does not explode.

And now, missiles no longer fly through the level!

Minor Networking Improvements

Increased the network rate for sampling entites' states.

Some Bugs

  • Fixed bug with replay ghost entities appearing when they should be.
  • Fixed a bug where a ship's landing gears were not properly breaking when a ship gets blown up.
  • Fixed engine particles still playing after getting detached from the ship.
  • Fixed UI ship health status not being updated correctly when the local player's ship explodes.

That's it!

Also, I am very happy to read all new reviews for Galactic Lander as we are reaching 100 reviews! Exciting stuff indeed.

Happy gaming!

Level Editor Tutorial Hotfix Patch

Hello!

Thanks to Starchyfries' bug report thread, I fixed a bug where the achievement 'Don't Delete That' wasn't working and was impossible to get.

And now, it is achievable!

Have fun!

Level Replay System Improvements

Hello!

Today's update brings improvements to the replay system, which now shows in more detail what happened the last time you played the level, meaning past missiles, crates and even other players if played in co-op mode.

Previously the replay only showed your own past ship, which wasn't a bug but simply a limited system. I expanded and improved the system based on RA2lover's suggestion.

A relatively small update, but took me a long time to complete due to bugs encountered on the way in addition to school projects, but at least it's finally here!

Bug Fixes

I also found and fixed some more bugs:

  • Fixed player's ship glitching in main menu if going back to lobby from game level
  • Fixed some inaccuracies with replay playbacks.

Enjoy the update, and have fun!

'Lander Remade' Mega-Update!

Hello, and welcome to the Lander Remade update!

What is it?

For the past month or so I have been working hard to fix many bugs in Galactic Lander, as well as add long-awaited features and mechanics.

What's included?

The most important newly-added features are all the new additions/changes to the level editor, the new game-wide event, and improvements and changes to both the death and victory prompts, and more.

To celebrate this mega-update, a game-wide special event has also been added which will run from the 5th of May to the 15th. The new event adds 10 exclusive new levels, and upon finishing the event, you get a custom new ship skin to keep forever!

Full patch-note list

  • Added game-wide event 'Lander Remade'
  • Ships now explode either when struck with a missile, or when hitting something too hard
  • Improvements to the victory prompt menu ('try to beat' times and other stuff)
  • Improvements to the death/loose prompt menu
  • Fixed bugs in level editor
  • New file browser for selecting a custom level preview for when uploading levels to the Steam workshop
  • Fixed controls-bug in local coop split-screen gameplay
  • Player-crate rope mechanic (which is optional, and can be turned on or off through the developer console, more info about it here)
  • New tutorial for the level editor
  • New achievement which has to do with the new level editor tutorial
  • Removed loading text that appears at start of level in the center of screen when playtesting a level.

'Lander Remade' Update Event

Hello!

All the new features for Galactic Lander are almost ready to go, and so I have set the date for the release of the new massive update (which can already be playtested on the 'testing' branch) to the 5th of May.

Game-wide event

To celebrate this relatively-massive update for Galactic Lander, which will introduce plenty of long-requested features and bug-fixes, a new limited-time game-wide event will be launched from the 5th of May to the 15th.

This exciting game event introduces 10 new singeplayer and coop levels which, once completed, will grant you a new exclusive player ship skin which you could keep forever.

What's included in the update?

I don't want to include a comprehensive quite yet, as I still have some more testing and preparation to do. On the 5th of May I will post a secondary announcement with the full list of features and bug-fixes.

I hope you are excited, because I am!
Thanks for reading, and as always, have fun!

[Testing Branch] Experimental Rope Feature

Ropes... Ropes are cool...

Rope

The idea for a rope to connect between the player's ship and a crate was an old idea that was never really implemented because I was working on other, more important features.

But for this upcoming mega-update, I worked on this feature and as of now it is available on the [testing] branch of Galactic Lander. To see this feature for yourself, simply fly to a crate as usual, and press X to pick up the crate. You should see a rope forming between your ship and the crate.

If you would like to continue playing Galactic Lander without this expiremental rope feature, simply open the game console by pressing the tilde '`' key and type 'rope_enable false' without the quotation marks.

I need your help!

When I playtested this feature myself, I wasn't sure whether or not it is actually a good idea. Therefore, in order to make the correct decision on whether to keep or scrap this new feature, I want to hear your feedback!

Players, if you happen to play on a level that has a crate in it, please give me feedback if you think the rope feature is a good idea, or is the old way better? (meaning the crate teleporting and sticking to the bottom of the ship)

Making your feedback is simple! There are a couple of options for you to give your feedback.

Thanks, and as always I am looking forward to hearing from you!

[Testing Branch] Level Editor Renovations

Hello!

For this update, I have began working on improving the level editor, and mostly focusing on improving the user-interface, as suggested by Mighty Joe in a discussions forum post.

Please note that I am not done improving the level editor, and this update is only the beginning of improvements to the level editor which will come soon.

Here is what is included in this update:

  • Fixed game-crash bug when trying to playtest an empty level.
  • Made some important text in the help menu bigger so as to grab more attention.
  • Added 'help' button to more easily review the help menu, without needing to restart the level editor.

New Level Editor Tutorial

I also plan on adding a complete and comprehensive tutorial for the level editor which will aid the player in better understanding every tool in the editor.

Very exciting stuff! Stay tuned for more announcements regarding Galactic Lander in the near future.
