Galaxy in Turmoil

Is GiT still a thing?

Hey all,

I just wanted to leave a final note about Galaxy in Turmoil.

We want everyone to know how grateful we are that the community supported us tirelessly for years as we transitioned from Star Wars to our own IP. We had a ton of ups, and an equal amount of downs.

We put out what the best a rag-tag group of volunteers could do with the resources we had available. However, in the end we burnt ourselves out. The technical demo we released had it's issues and wasn't up to the standard that we fully wanted a release to be. But alas, we could all see the burn-out coming from a mile away - so the release had to take place regardless of the issues.

After the tech demo release and failed Kickstarter, we just didn't have any gas left in the tank. Many of us were fortunate. Some great careers were obtained in the aftermath of Galaxy in Turmoil. A good portion of our team have joined some very successful studios, others have pursued different career paths altogether. Regardless, the one thing we can all agree about is that it was a wild ride, and we wouldn't take back the experience and the long term friendships we made along the way.

As for Galaxy in Turmoil, we have no plans to resurrect it at any point in the near future. There have been talks about if we secure private funding, that we'd discuss continuing. But as for now, GiT is all but dead.

We've left the old build up on Steam for posterity sake, however all officially hosted servers have been taken offline, along with any user systems for scorekeeping, logging in, etc. Likewise, obviously we'll not be providing support for any issues with GiT you may run into if you download the game.

One final note; we let the Frontwire Studios domain name lapse as we had no use for it. Someone re-registered it on March 19th, 2022 and put up a (rough) version of the old website. I'm not sure what their plans are, but just know any content or anything on the website has no connection to anyone from the team.

Once again, thanks for all the support and good times.

GiT Gud,

Fergie

UPDATE: Login Changes / First Person

Sorry for the lack of updates! We've taken to heart a lot of what was said and we wanted to take time to fix what we could. When we launched and things went sideways, we were all a bit bummed. We just needed some time to rest with our families and refocus on life.

So, what does this mean for GiT? We've decided as a group that we're going to put less effort into developing new content for the time being. However that doesn't mean that we're stopping altogether. We'll continue to support the game as it is, fix issues here and there, especially any game breaking ones.

If you want to support us during that time - we're more than willing to accept any help! You can make donations via PayPal to donations@frontwirestudios.com - any donations will 100% go towards the development and support of the game. From updates, to bug fixes, future content and server costs.

We do have a few more updates to the game including some game modes in the coming weeks. The first of which was just released.

Here is one of our final big updates to the game!

Changes in this build:

- We have REMOVED the login requirement. The community was torn about having to make a Frontwire Account to play the game. So now you'll be auto-logged in via STEAM when you launch.

- New ambient sfx in the maps thanks to @pumodi

- Nametags are now added in thanks to @Jorge III

- The AI has been overhauled! AI have new logic that prevents hiccups and issues on servers and when playing P2P.

- On Domination, team colors have been fixed! You should now properly see your team as one color and the other team as red.

- A new space-only map! Now under the TDM Game Mode you can select "CTS Space TDM".

- Maps have had a lighting overhaul as we moved to the latest UE4 version!

- Finally First Person cockpit views are now in the TDM Space map thanks to Zaidenknop & Vorixo! (See the video below)

Update News and Account System Changes

Hello everyone! Apologies for the prolonged radio silence, we've listened to the community and are preparing a new update which includes visual changes to The Bowels, bug fixes, minor bot logic changes and some never seen content!

We've also been made aware of a problem with our account system which is not allowing anyone to create or login to their FWS account, we're currently in the process of changing our systems around, which means you may not be able to play the game until the next patch.

Community Play Sessions!

We're very excited to announce that starting today, May 28th, we'll be hosting public play sessions weekly! Twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays at 1 PM EST, we'll be having our Test Bunnies 🐰 join servers, and we invite you to join in on the fun. The sessions typically last for an hour and who knows, you might get the chance to snipe our developers!

Leaderboards: ACTIVATE!

I'm stoked to announce we now have live leaderboards up and running! Now you can see who the top 10 GiT players are! This means you need to start playing and getting those scores up! We'll begin awarding the top 10 players each month very soon!

GAME UPDATE: New Game Mode!

Hello GiT Community!

For starters, I wanted to thank you all for checking out the early access release. While I know that there have been mixed reviews on what we have done so far, I still want to express the entire team's appreciation for each and every review, positive or negative. The positive reviews help us keep chugging along. The negative ones help us see what needs to be corrected. For those of you who have left negative review, I promise that we are reading each review, and that we're doing everything we can to turn the negative reviews into positive ones.

Before I go into the update, I invite you all to join us on Discord. You can jump into the discussion with the entire community and the development team, and get your opinions heard to help us out with the development of GiT! Discord: https://discord.gg/galaxyinturmoil

With that being said, our first major update is now live! This update includes a new game mode, Domination. It's a capture the control point style game mode. Read on for details about the game mode.

What is DOMINATION?

In Domination, opposing factions compete for control of the area. By capturing Control Posts on the map, players boost their team’s total capture score and open up additional team spawn locations for further conquest.

The longer a team holds a Control Post, the more points it earns. Victory goes to the team that first reaches the target points threshold.

This update also includes two vehicles: A hover bike and a (wip) tank. Friendly note: The tank requires two people! A driver and a gunner. The gunner can access the turret from the back of the tank!

Everything you need to know about the game mode, and how to play is currently found in two spots:

1. The loadout screen gives you a breakdown of objectives on the right
2. When you approach healing stations, ammo stations or the capture point, a tool tip will show in the top right of the screen (See the above gif for reference)
------------

While there are bots on the server, we are aware of a bug where they can get a bit janky and sit in the spawn for a bit. However if they get attacked/killed, they resume operating as normal. We're looking into a quick patch for this in the coming days. However until then, you can still play with your friends!

Likewise in the coming days we'll be releasing public leaderboards! So get in game and start learning the functions and controls so you can make it to the top 50!

In closing, I know people have expectations for ground to space.
We do have it, and we plan to drip release it, along with new maps very soon.

See you in game and on Discord!

Early Access Release!

First and foremost, I want to thank you all for sticking around through the ups and downs that we’ve had. As many of you might know, we launched our Kickstarter and demo previously, and unfortunately the Kickstarter failed.

We racked our brains for days trying to figure out why. With over 150,000+ people with the game on their Steam wishlist, it made no sense. After discussions with Valve, we finally found out why. When we released the game as a DEMO, no one got notified of the release. The 150,000+ people with the game on their wishlist never received an email or Steam alert.

I’m sure you have the same question we had: Why?!

The answer is simple. Those 150,000+ people had the main game on their Steam wishlist, not the demo itself. Steam classes the demo and the main game as two different applications, each with their own wishlist. Whoops! Due to this, the Kickstarter failed, and the game sat dead with only a few hundred players (mostly you Discord peeps).

So we took a step back, caught our breaths and pushed full steam ahead. Step 1: We decided to re-release the demo as Early Access, this way all those people would get notifications.

Step 2: We looked at the feedback from the people who played the game and we made substantial changes. With that said, here is what you can expect in the current Early Access version that is now released on Steam:

We’ve added bots to all official game servers, and given you the ability to disable them on your own servers.
We’ve removed all maps and game modes, aside from the game mode Siege. Why? We realized we were overly ambitious, and we had too many features and game modes for people to seamlessly jump in game and start playing. We’d love to introduce you to the other game modes and maps that we have, however first we want you to get used to our mechanics by playing Siege.

What is Siege?

In Siege, the defending team’s base houses a rare and valuable artifact. The attacking team must hack through security before they can take the payload for themselves. Defenders must prevent or intercept hacks.

Once all consoles are breached, the shield protecting the artifact vanishes, leaving the objective vulnerable to a full-on assault. To achieve victory, attackers must carry the artifact to one of their Extraction Zones, while defenders try to stop them until the timer runs out.
We’ve optimized the game for those with lower-end computers, as well as made tons of bug fixes, game balancing changes and audio fixes.

Finally, we will NOT be released a new Kickstarter right away. We’re going to let the community play for a while before we look at doing a new one.

We hope you enjoy the Early Access game! Feel free to hop on our Discord and let us know what you think! Discord: https://discord.gg/galaxyinturmoil

Community Update + Patch Notes v1578

Patch Notes for v1578

Hey there GiT community!

I hope you had a KILLER Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Whatever it is you celebrate!

Every year people ask me what I want for Christmas. Normally I reply; “my two front teeth“, but this Christmas I asked asked for something special. Our Kickstarter is now live! Even though the Holidays are just about over – If you’re still in the giving spirit, be sure to check it out and back us! <3

Before I get into the patch notes for v1578, I wanted to take the moment to address the elephant in the room: Server population. As you may (or may not) know, we’ve had a drastic issue with server population. It’s practically non-existent. When we launched the demo, we fully expected tons of players to roll through the door – they didn’t. We scratched our heads, pulled out our hair, and then we figured out why!

As you know, we’ve released the DEMO on Steam. The issue, however, is that when the demo was released, the over 100,000+ people who have GiT on their wishlist didn’t get a notification.

That’s right! It seems even though hundreds of thousands of people have GiT on their wishlists, they won’t receive notifications of demo launches unless the demo is also on their wishlist. As such, we’ve been receiving tons of emails and DM’s asking when the demo will drop, even though it already has.

In order to rememedy this, we’re working with Valve to re-release the demo as Early-Access, in order to get that golden ticket (read: marketing email) sent to the over 100,000+ people who have been waiting for the demo to drop!

With that being said – lets talk about this latest patch!

For this update, we’ve really worked hard on fixing a lot of the issues that arose with the initial launch of the demo. We’ve also listened to the community feedback and done our best to address one big issue. Our very own Christmas elf, Vorixo, worked his little elf fingers to the bone on Christmas Day and created a basic AI system to help with server population as people continue to learn about GiT. So our belated gift to all of you – bots!

Three modes now have bots on them by default. We’re currently working to add an option to enable or disabled bots in the server settings screen, but that is not in this current patch. Bots are now added in by default on the following modes:

TDM
Domination
Siege (Bowels Map)

We’re hoping to add the bots to other gamemodes – but for now, Domination,TDM and Siege (Bowels map) are the only gameodes that have the bots enabled. There are a slew of other updates and fixes that we’ve deployed in this patch, so be sure to read on and then hop on GiT and check them out!

One final note – we’re going to be coordinating some in-game community events in the coming week(s) so keep an eye on the News channel on our Discord server. Link: https://discord.gg/galaxyinturmoil
