Update 2.1.5 - The Avatar Update

Welcome to Update 2.1.5!

This update includes a major rework to the Avatar system (including new artwork and races), a new Legendary Tasks system for guilds that complete all 72 base tasks in a week, and many quality of life improvements (including a Mass Disenchant button and improvements to Necromancy and Souls gains). Below is a complete list.

All new Avatars


Avatar artwork has had a visual upgrade. Players are now able to customize their hero further than before with:
* New Hair styles
* Ability to change Hair Color (ever wanted blue hair, now you can)
* Facial Features (like tattoos, piercings, scars etc.)
* Ability to change Feature colors
* Human Avatars are now available in a darker skin tone
* Players are able to wear one set of Armor while getting a bonus from another set
* Your armor bonus can be chosen in the Hero Menu on the Armor Bonus tab.
* Your visible armor can be chosen in the Hero Menu on the Appearance tab.
* Armor hats and helms are now separated from armors (so if you wanted to wear that awesome Vampire Hat while wearing Viking Armor you can)

Legendary Guild Tasks


When a guild completes all 72 tasks (there are about 20 of you right now - more than we expected!), they now unlock Legendary Tasks. Each Legendary task costs 1,000,000 Gold in contributions, and will give 3 random rewards chosen from the following list:
* 25-60 Gems
* 100-500 Glory
* 10-25 Glory Keys
* 2-6 Gem Keys
* 2-4 Event Keys
* 100-140 Guild Seals
* 20-30 Minor Traitstones
* 2-6 Arcane Traitstones
* A Legendary or Mythic Troop

A guild can complete as many Legendary Tasks as they like within a week. At the beginning of the following week (Monday 7am GMT), everything resets and they must complete all 72 minor tasks to unlock Legendary Tasks again.
(And yes, Guild Seals obtained this way will raise your weekly cap, so they don't count against the 1500 you can earn normally.) For the record, the total value of items in a Legendary task can vary, but on average, their value is about 150 Gems.

General Changes


* Resource counters have been added to the battle game, so you can keep track of how close you are to resource caps.
* A new Soundtrack has been added to the game, 40 minutes of original music composed for Gems of War by Aaron C Edwards.
* Mass Disenchant has returned to the game, disenchanting all your Mythic troops down to 4 copies. You can find it on the left hand side of Disenchant Tab in the Crafting Menu.

Balance Changes


Trait: Necromancy
* Changed from 50% bonus Souls from battle to 25% (now that we're allowing Necromancy to raise the Soul Cap in battle, we had to reduce the effect)

Valkyrie
With the much-requested raising of soul cap via Necromancy, we've had to remove Necromancy from Valkyrie. Already one of the most versatile soul-generators in the game, having the ability to also raise the Soul Cap just made her WAY too powerful. We've shared Necromancy around with some extra troops however, and we're excited to see what soul-farming teams everyone can come up with.
* Changed Necromancy trait to Mana Shield

Acolyte
* Changed Jinx trait to Necromancy

Avina
* Soul gain now scales off Magic
* Base Soul amount increased from 1 to 4

Banshee
* Spell now gives Souls, scaled off Magic

Dragon Soul
* Souls given has increased from 10 to 15

Marid
* Spell has had a minor rework. Spell still deal damage, but now always causes random status effect (instead of the conditional effect which wasn’t working correctly). Spell also now has 20% chance of a Treasure Map (like his half-sister, Tyri)

Nobend Brothers
* Spell has had a minor rework; all 3 affects will give an extra turn. Also all 3 affects now scale off Magic.
* Mana Cost increased from 12 to 13

Queen Ysabelle
* Fixed the issue on her 3rd Trait which caused it to trigger at the Start of both players' turns.

Sacrificial Priest
* Changed Inscribed trait to Necromancy

Sacrifice
* Changed Life Drain trait to Necromancy
* Fixed text in translations which said he killed a random ally instead of last ally

Warlock
* Changed Daemon Bond trait to Necromancy

Wight
* Spell now gives Souls, which scale off Magic

Daemonomicon
* Spell changed to summon a random daemon, to match the spell text properly.
* Mana cost increased from 14 to 16

Phylactery
* Spell now gives Souls, which scale off Magic

Soul Blade
* Soul gain increased from 1 to 10

Troop Refunds


The following troops will be available for refund for the next week:
* Acolyte
* Marid
* Queen Ysabelle
* Sacrificial Priest
* Sacrifice
* Valkyrie
* Warlock

Bug Fixes


* Fixed display issue for Guild Statue bonus timer
* Fixed issue where players needed to earn 61 Moves in Treasure Hunts to get Seals instead of 60
* Fixed issue that was causing Heroes to get more skill points from bonuses than they should (we will be revisiting Heros in a future update)
* Fixed an issue where the Chat Button would appear twice when looking at another player's team then backing out of the battle

Known Issues


* Infernal King's 3rd Trait is triggering even though he is stunned on Death
* Can start a new battle while in the middle of a battle through chat, causing the game to crash
* Guild Statues have a display issue, which means they aren't showing their correct levels over level 100
* Ghost Orbweaver Hero triggered when it summons a Giant Spider on damage that caused death
* Summoned Troops' traits are not triggering correctly
* AI summoned troops summoned with incorrect buffs (particularly on Warlord difficulties)
* Transformed enemy's traits still triggering after being transformed
* Guild Reward mail saying that player collected rewards from another guild, when they hadn't (We will be trying to get a fix out to the servers ASAP)

Update 2.1 - The Guilds Update - Arrives!


Greetings Matchers,

This update brings massive enhancements to Guilds to make them more cooperative than ever! See below for a full list of changes.

Guilds


* The cost for creating a new guild has been increased to 25,000 gold from 1,000.

Guild Overview Tab
* All your guild stats are arranged along the top
* There are 6 Guild Statues with levels, one for each Gem Mastery
* Each Guild Statue gives a series of bonuses based on its level. You can view these bonuses by tapping on the “?” button under each statue.
* Statues gain XP/Levels as people donate to the respective colored tasks
* Guild Management button has been moved to the Top Left corner

Guild Task Tab
* 6 Tasks, one for each statue, each one increasing in cost & reward during the week. Each one with different rewards.
* Contribution popup now has the option to “complete” a task immediately
* Completed tasks now mail out rewards to ALL guild members (including the player completing it)
* Complete ALL tasks for a color in a week to gain a 7-day skill bonus unique to that color. E.g., RED = +3 Attack for all troops for 7 days. The durations stack.

Guild Seals Tab
* Here you can see any Guild Seals you’ve earned. Tasks that generate Guild Seals are all listed, along with their value.
* Click CLAIM ALL to get all your earned seals
* Individual Seal contributions are capped at 1500 per week, though the cap is raised if you purchase guild seals from the shop.
* On the right you see how your Guild Chest upgrades as the Guild Members earn seals

Guild Shop Tab
* You can purchase 3 items… each one gives you extra SEALS, and also gives Guild Keys to all guild members (including yourself)

Guild Roster Tab
* Our new roster shows everything without tabs, and also lets you sort the guild on a number of things
* Tapping the “menu” button on a guild member, opens a small popup menu that lets you perform actions on them

Guild League Tab
* Functions exactly like the old one except that there are a bunch of new Leagues to progress through, all with bigger gold bonuses.

Guild Chests
* Guild Chests are accessible from the Chest Menu. (They live between Event and VIP chests.)
* Openable with Guild Seals (or Keys obtained from guildmates making guild purchases)
* Only place to unlock Guild Guardians, which drop from 50% of all Guild Keys you use.

Guild Guardians
* Guild Guardians start off as Common Troops
* Guardians possess strong support spells
* Require EXTRA Traitstones to upgrade
* Scale REALLY hard in levels 16-20 to the equivalent of a mythic in stats
* As they are special troops, they have a unique 3rd trait similar to Legendary cards

Player Level Cap


* Player level cap has been raised from 1,000 to 10,000.
* Players will gain one more Skill point every 100 levels up to 2,000.
* Players receive an event key in the mail for each level they get over 1,000.

Kingdom Power Stars


* With more troops being added to kingdoms, we’ve increased the number of Stars you can earn.
* Currently kingdoms can reach 7 Stars (if they have enough troops).
* We will unlock more Stars in the future as the number of troops in each kingdom increases.

New Kingdom Coming Soon: Dragon’s Claw


* While it is yet to be available, keep an eye out for the next kingdom - Dragon’s Claw.
* Dragon’s Claw should be released some time later this week.

Other


* VIP levels now go to level 15. As before, each level gives new benefits.
* Players can now access the Chat overlay from any screen, including in the middle of a battle.

Major Bug Fixes


* Fixed it so players with the same name can now join the same guild.

New Known Issues


* The image for the Souls bonus in the purple Guild Statue is incorrect (shows XP star instead of Souls icon).
* If you purchase from the guild shop, your maximum Seal cap for the week increases, but that increase takes a short time to show in the Guild Menu (you often have to leave the menu and re-enter it)

Update 2.0.1 Arrives!

The wait is over, Patch 2.0.1 has landed!

Explore Mode


A new game mode has been added in ALL Kingdoms. It is accessible once that Kingdom’s quest line is finished.
Explore Mode throws you into a random battle from its Kingdom, with a few troops changed around to keep it fresh, and in return offers you a double chance of Runic Traitstones, and a triple chance at Arcane & Celestial Traitstones.
As a bonus feature, the Explore Menu shows the traitstones available in each Kingdom too!

Dual Troop Types


Up until now, the poor Undead Dragon had to decide if he was Undead, or Dragon. So we asked ourselves… ¿Por qué no los dos? And now he gets to be both (and he feels whole again).
Apart from relieving stress on the Legion of Undead Dragons out there, this addition is sure to mix up a few team comps as new combinations of troops have access to new bonuses.
Not all troops have a double troop type, but you’ll find a goodly number of them that do!

Troop Type Changes


In order to make Double Troop Types work, and to keep things balanced as we continue to pour lots of new troops into the game, we’ve had to add some extra troop types!
Unfortunately, that means the demise of the Marauder as a type; its members (along with many of the Wildfolk) have run off to join the new factions.

To summarize, here are the changes:
* We’ve added: Mechs, Raksha, Wargare, Centaur, Tauros, Orc, Goblin, Naga, Rogue, Mystic, Stryx, Merfolk
* We’ve removed: Marauder
* Marauders & most Wildfolk have migrated to the types above
* A few Wildfolk have stubbornly remained Wildfolk, and have been joined by a few Marauders who didn’t fit anywhere else.


Status Effects


We have 2 new status effects, and a couple of significant changes:
* WEB: Much like Entangle with Attack, Web reduces a target’s Magic skill to 0
* STUN: A stunned troop no longer gain benefits from any of its traits
* DEATH MARK: We have removed the 2 turn grace period at the start of this effect – now it actually feels dangerous!
* ENTANGLE: This is no longer removed by Attack buffs, in fact it now stops any Attack buffs applying while in effect. Web works similarly with Magic Buffs.


Trait Changes


We have added new Slayer and Bond traits for the new Troop types.
We have added new traits for the 2 new status effects.
* Snare: Inflict Web when doing Skull damage
* Slippery: Immunity to Web
* Stalker: Deal double Skull damage vs. Webbed enemies.
* Knockout: Inflict Stun when doing Skull damage
* Thick Head: Immunity to Stun
* Clobber: Deal double Skull damage vs. Stunned enemies.
We have added 2 new immunities:
* Indigestible: Immunity to Devour
* Mana Shield: Immunity to Mana Burn
We have modified Impervious to include the new immunities.


Balance Changes


Conditional effect based on number of gems on the board increased required Gems from 10 to 13, as 10 was too easy to achieve, and 13 would still be achieved in 80% of those cases.

Bug Fixes


* Fixed Chat issues that were causing the game to slow down and feel laggy.
* Fixed issue with Famine’s 3rd trait that would cause the game to freeze when it killed the last troop.
* Fixed issue with Frenzy where spell with randomly split damage (like Rowanne’s Thorns) would cause it to trigger multiple times.
* Fixed issue where player would not have weapons in Arena
* Fixed issue where Shop text would appear behind the World Map after redeeming a code.
* Fixed issue where some Defense Wins were not rewarding PVP points correctly
* Fixed issue where viewing a player in Arena could cause the game to stop allowing spells to be cast.
* Fixed an issue where creating or modifying teams would not be saved if playing between 2 devices.
* Fixed Guild Weekly Stats not resetting correctly.
* Fixed issue where Serve and Protect wasn’t always giving Barrier to the correct troops.
* Fixed issue where Dust and Sand wasn’t always debuffing all enemies.
* Fixed issue where collecting PVP Defense rewards would take the player to the Tier Reward screen afterwards.
* Fixed an issue where Guild weekly stats are not resetting properly or would reset in the middle of the week.
* Fixed a display issue where it looked like the player would receive less gold than intended for a 4 Star kingdom.
* Fixed PVP Battle Log display issues.
* Fixeed issue where PVP Tier was not resetting correctly.


Known Issues


* Gem Mastery bonus from Hero Classes is not included/ displayed on the Gem Mastery Overview screen in the Hero menu.
* AI troops with Blessed and Curse are not activating correctly.
* Marid’s Spell applying random status effect even when there isn’t correct number of gems on the board.
* Black Beast’s spell will not create skulls if he doesn’t devour anyone.
* Rare issue where using a Dust Devil’s spell may cause a Ghost troop (unkillable troop).

Design-a-Troop Project!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to a great community suggestion over the weekend, we've decided to do something a little unusual for one of our upcoming troops... we're going to let YOU design it!

Here's what you need to know:

One of our forum regulars, Jainus, has very kindly agreed to manage the whole process for us (it was his idea after all), which is great for everyone, because it leaves us more time to work on the game!

More details:
We will be keeping a watch on the whole process, for both balance & technical & copyright issues. We DO reserve the right to change some stuff, but it will be mostly because our tech might not allow certain traits/spells to be created (our system isn't infinitely flexible, unfortunately).

The troop will be Legendary, so you'll be creating not just a troop and a spell, but also a Legendary Trait!

When the initial design is done, it will go out to art, and you'll get to see the various art iterations as they come in.

And finally we'll make the troop available to everybody when it's done in a Glory-Reward pack, along with some matching traitstones.

The whole process might take a while (art itself can be slow, and changes to tech can be even slower!) but it'll be a nice insight into the design process for everyone.

2.0 Patch Notes

Hi All,

The wait is over, Patch 2.0 arrives! Get all the details on what's new and what's changed below!

PVP Rework


* The PVP Menu now has 6 new menus, Ranked, Casual, Stats, Defense, Battle Log and Leaderboard.

Ranked:
* Allows you choose between 3 opponents to earn points for rankings in the weekly event.
* Ranked is played at normal difficulty with the Combo-breaker turned off.
* The old Rank system is still around as the new Tier system (we've just renamed it, since "Rank" now applies to your position on the PvP Ladder).
* Tier Rewards can be collected once when you’ve reached a new tier level.
* Rank Rewards given at the end of an event are based on what rank you were when the event ended.

Casual:
* Allows you choose between 3 opponents for a fun battle that does not affect PvP points or ranking.
* Casual is played at your currently-selected difficulty.
* Casual battles have a slightly reduced reward compared to Ranked battles.

Stats:
* Shows various stats for your PvP Career including:
* Current Tier and rewards for each Tier.
* Current Rank and rewards for with week’s event.
* Current Wins and Losses for Invades and Defenses.
* Favorite Troop for invading.
* Most Invaded Kingdom.

Defense:
* The Defense menu works the same as before, but now displays the current progress for successful defense rewards.

Battle Log:
* The Battle Log displays all of your recent battles (invades and defenses), whether you won or lost, and how long ago the battle was.

Leaderboards:
* Leaderboards show both your current rank as well as the top 100 players in the current weekly event.

Summoning Improvements


* Summoning is no longer limited to a cap of level 15 for troops.
* Summoned troops are now limited by what level you have raised that troop to.
* Summoned troops now gain any team bonuses earned at the start of battle (from Troop type or Kingdom bonuses).
* Summoned troops come in with any trait you have unlocked on the troop.
* Summoning changes do not apply to Arena.

Hero Profiles


* We’ve added a new social feature to the game: Hero Profiles.
* Hero Profiles allow you to view various information about another player in the game.
* You are able to use the Hero Profile to invite players to your guild or play in a friendly battle.
* Friendly battles do not give out rewards.
* You can access the new Hero Profile menu by tapping on a player’s name in chat or viewing it in the PVP Menus (either from the Leaderboard or Battle Log menus).

New Kingdom


* Glacial Peaks has appeared on the map to unlock.
* New troops (including 2 new legendary troops) have been added to chests.
* Glacial Peaks introduces a new spell mechanic: Mana Burn
~ Mana Burn deals damage to an enemy based on the enemy’s current mana.
~ Mana Burn does not drain Mana from the enemy.

VIP Chests


* VIP Chests have had some improvements:
~ If you draw an epic card, you will gain 2 copies of that reward.
~ If you draw a traitstone you gain 2 copies of that traitstone.
~ VIP Chests now also rewards 2000 gold for every chest you open.

Mythic Troops


* Mythic troops are super rare troops that can drop from Glory, Gem, and VIP chests.
* Mythic troops are the only troops with triple Mana colors.
* Like Legendaries they have a unique 3rd Trait.
* New Mythic Troop- War- has been added to chests.

Treasure Hunt


* Red Chests no longer reward Gold
* Vaults no longer reward Gold and Souls

General


* Claim All button has been added to the Mail menu, allows you to claim all rewards from mail at once.
* Victory and Defeat Menus has had a visual rework, and now display rewards from battles similar to Treasure Hunt mini game.
* Increased security to reduce amount of hacking with the new PvP changes.
* Mechanist Class’ legendary trait, Clockwork, has been added to the class.
* You can now opt out of Global Chat but still be part of Guild Chat.

Troop Balance


Infernal King
* Immortal trait chance has been reduced from 30% to 25%

Banshee
* Mana cost has been reduced from 14 to 12

Troop Refunds


* Infernal King is available for refund for 1 week.

Major Bug Fixes


* Game no longer crashes when casting Soothsayer’s spell when there are no purple gems on the board.
* Frenzy should no longer activate multiple times from damage.
* Game should no longer end when a Troop is summoned from final troop’s Trait (such as Daemonic Pact).
* On Hit Traits (Such a Great Maw’s Hunger) should not trigger on multiple troops with large skull cascades.
* Hero Class Troop types should now be working correctly. Hero should now gain benefits/weaknesses from troop type spells/ bonuses.
* Watcher’s Mana drain on status effect now applies to Frozen, Disease and Death Mark.
* AOE Damage will now pop Barrier.
* We believe we have addressed the main cause of Dust Devil crashing after casting his spell.
* Fixed Mist Stalker’s spell so he should be dealing poison as intended.
* Hero Class Magic bonuses should no longer apply in the Arena.

Known Issues

Rakshanin Double Glory Event

Need some extra Glory?

We're running an event similar to the Runesmith Event a couple of weeks ago, except this time it's all about the Rakshanin. Include him in your PvP Invade team and you'll get x2 Glory for any victory! (That should help you all get a few extra of those tasty Arcane Brown/Yellow Traitstones.)

Server Issues on April 7th

Hi Everyone,

As you're likely aware, our servers began experiencing some strange errors during the evening hours of April 6th (U.S. time zones). These included temporary error, incorrect login, and invalid guild errors. These originated with our server provider, Parse, and are affecting many apps/games, including Gems of War. We put the servers into a temporary maintenance mode while they resolved the issue.

We've now restored service and everyone will soon receive a little gift as an apology for the outage.

A few months ago, Parse announced that they would be shutting down at the end of this year. We've been working to perform a server migration and are now asessing how we can accelerate our timelines given the unexpectedly quick decline in quality and service. We cannot provide an exact timeline at this point, but rest assured that we will work with haste to ensure our players get the quality experience they deserve.
