GHOSTWARE.exe launches in Early Access in less than 24h!
Hello Hyperstrangers,
In less than 24 hours GHOSTWARE: Arena of the Dead will launch in Early Access. This marks another step on the development road. A road that started with a small project which was meant to be a nostalgic discourse and satire on the state of late '90s shooters. A project that now goes by the name of GHOSTWARE. Many days have passed since its conception and many will pass until the game is ready for full release.
Until then, let's together enjoy the journey ahead of us. Here is what you can expect from Early Access for GHOSTWARE - compiled into an FAQ:
Why Early Access in the first place?
GHOSTWARE is developed by a handful of people in their spare time. Early Access will allow the team to grow and fully focus on development. Not to mention that your feedback will be essential in making the game as good as it can be.
How long will this game be in Early Access?
GHOSTWARE will be in development for a period of around 8 months, which would translate to a full release in late Q4 2023 or early Q1 2024.
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
The full version will have significantly more content for you to enjoy. Besides a greater roster of enemies, you can expect more grandiose boss fights, new maps, story episodes, and various other elements that are not yet present. Furthermore, the Arcade mode will receive a plethora of updates as well.
As to the price difference, on the 12th of April you will be able to get the game for 14.99$ with a 15% launch discount. At the end of the development cycle you can expect the game’s price to rise slightly.
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
On the 12th of April you will have access to the first episode, which will include:
4 chapters, 12+ levels, most of which can be revisited to hunt for extra items.
A full “base” arsenal.
Classic arena game modes such as Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Capture the Flag
8 enemy types
The Arcade mode which will allow you to set up your own custom matches against bots
Can I be involved in the development process?
As we have mentioned at the beginning, your input will be invaluable. We will be listening to your feedback on various platforms (Discord, Twitter, etc.) in order to deliver a better game. Keep an eye out for closed betas for upcoming episodes as well!
This wraps up today's update and for those who can't wait, here is a short gameplay teaser:

It's been a long while since the last update, and many things happened since June.
As the ones who have followed this years' Realms Deep online event, we have partnered with HYPERSTRANGE, the publishers and developers behind Postal Brain Damaged, Blood West, Incision among the others!
With this new collaboration we got access to many new services that allowed us to make Ghostware the best possible iteration of it, and we want to share part of the newest additions to the game in a new, expanded demo!
At the time of writing the estimate release date for it is yet to be decided but all the new content will make up for the wait; speaking of which, here's a list of what to expect from Ghostware in the future:
- NEW two brand new enemy types (no spoilers!) - NEW a never-seen-before, completely reworked fight against the first boss The Hacker - NEW brand new level in the campaign - NEW reworked NPCs in the lobbies, each one now featuring its own dialogue tree - NEW footstep sounds of the player are now tied to the surface Molly walks on - NEW the player can change abilities from the Save Stations found in the lobbies - alternative fire mode for all the weapons! - texture and modeling rework for certain characters, enemies, and weapons - improved AI - reworked the Blinding Sand default ability to make it more consistent - audio/visual improvements for all the guns - visual overhaul of the UI elements - and much more
what to expect in the future
- even more new enemy types - complete rewriting of the dialogues - full voice acting in the cutscenes - many other things that escape me at the moment
Thanks you all for the patience and the support you showed us so far, and before leaving we wanna share with you a few pics of what's going on behind the scenes
GHOSTWARE's release delayed (but worry not, it's still coming)
Hello everyone, project lead here:
Some of you might remember that Ghostware was set to release in Early Access on June 24th 2022, however we've decided to postpone the release. Some opportunities have presented itself to us which may increase our chances at successfuly launching Gware, as this is a project we have invested a lot of hopes and time into, and we want to make sure to play to all of our strenghts, even if this means delaying the launch plans. We believe the possible outcomes will be worth the extra wait, so don't worry!
Still, apologies for the inconvience, we know some of you were eager to get your hands on Episode 1 as soon possible, but hopefully the new date won't be too far off!
FAQ 1: When's the new date? We don't know atm, but we will soon
FAQ 2: Did something bad happen? Not at all, if anything I'd say the opposite
FAQ 3: Why is the release date shifted by a whole year? when we asked Steam support to change the date after having explained the situation to them they gave us a large enough time frame by adding 365 more days
If you have any more questions feel free to write them down in the comments!
GHOSTWARE has a release date!
Hello everyone
We're delighted to announce that we settled on a date to release GHOSTWARE in Early Access, so grab a pen and mark your calendar:
The game will debut on Steam on June 24th 2022!
On this day you will find the entirety of Episode One as the main course, and a first iteration of the Arcade Mode as an extra!
Episode One of the story will feature all the content shown during the Closed Beta, which amounts to more than a dozen replayable maps with branching storylines depending on the players's choice and optional backtracking with lots of lore bits to satisfy the completionists among you.
The Arcade is an entirely new part of the game, dedicated to setting up custom matches throughout a handful of game modes such as Deathmatch, Domination, Capture The Flag and the likes, allowing you to choose the rules, the level of difficulty, and what character you play as.
This part features arcade-exclusive maps, and it's the portion of the game that will see the most frequent content updates throughout the development cycle to keep you coming back while we work on Episode Two of the story, which obviously requires case-by-case work that goes beyond making new maps for an already established framework.
And last but not least, we will participate at the Steam Next Fest (running June 13-21) with a demo that will showcase both the campaign and the custom matches, so keep an eye on that too!
We hope that you'll enjoy what we've prepared for you, and as always, keep in touch with us on Twitter and Discord, and tell your friends about it!
_Daev Team
The first two maps for Arcade are here!
One of the stretch goals we had in mind when we started developing GHOSTWARE has always been the addition of an arcade mode that let you run and gun whenever you want if you wanted to take a break from the meat of the game -its story mode.
Now that the first Episode of GHOSTWARE is finished, we had the chance of start working on what we labeled the "Arcade" mode: it's an offline multiplayer against bots where you'll be free to customize the amount of enemies and teammates, the gamemode, the score, and the map where you'll be playing!
To keep things itneresting, we began the creation of a whole bunch of maps that aren't canon/indipendent from the story, and that will be exclusive to the Arcade: some of those will be specific to a gamemode, for instance Capture The Flag, whereas others will be available to be played on more than one (both Deathmatch and Domination, as an example)
The first two finished maps that we present today are Cave and Vats: they're medium-sized maps suitable for a multitude of game modes, and it's a first taste of what will be shipped alongside EP1 of the campaign once GHOSTWARE enters Early Access.
