GI Racing 2.0

GI Racing 2.0 Status

Hey Guys,

First of all, let me apologize for the very slow response and the lack of recent updates. I'll have more to say on that in a moment, but let me also state right upfront that, despite appearances, this is not a dead or abandoned project. We have already put a fair amount of work into it after our last set of updates and we very much want to continue working on it.

Here's the basic situation. When we went into early access, we were hoping for a little more initial funding than we got out of the gate. Having never done this before, we really were not sure what to expect or the best way to go about promoting it. We gave out lots of free keys to people promising to do reviews and promote the game, but with one or two exceptions, we got nothing back in return. I guess we got scammed for some keys :) Oh well, it turns out this is a more common phenomena than we knew about, but such is life. We'll know better for next time and can share this experience with our students as part of the learning curve.

Like I said, unfortunately, the game didn't really generate enough early sales to allow us to bring in the extra help we needed to finish it in a more timely fashion, so we're going in a different direction. We've been putting together the makings of a crowdfunding campaign, not just for GI Racing 2.0, but to fund a number of other projects we have in development at Game Institute. In the next few weeks we'll have some more information about what's happening with that, but we hope to be able to raise the funds to put this project back on the front burner. To pay the bills, we've had to focus more on course development these last couple of months, but we really do want to get some updates out here as well. If we're successful in our attempts to raise a bit of scratch, we'll be right back in action.

To be clear, I'm certainly not asking you guys to pay more or anything like that; I just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on what we're trying to do to get this game back on the right track. If you could help us spread the word around when the time comes, that would be awesome, but that's totally your call of course.

We had obviously hoped to be much further along on this project than we currently are, and we're very sorry for letting it go so long without an update. We really want to wrap this project up as soon as possible and will do the best we can to get it fast tracked.

Thank you so much for your patience and your support.

Cheers,

Brand New Build - Important Features and Fixes

Hi All,

We just uploaded the latest build of the game and it's filled with a number of new community requested features along with a bunch of squashed bugs as well.

This is quite a significant update actually because it really gives a lot more control to the player over how they prefer to experience the game. For example, messing around with the sensitivity controls can dramatically affect the feel of the game. The new damage controls also provide for a more forgiving experience if you just want to whip around at high speeds and not have to worry too much about the consequences.

You'll find these new controls on the Game tab in the in-game menu.

Anyway, here's the complete list:

• Added User Control - Joypad/Joystick Sensitivity
• Added User Control - Virtual Camera/Cockpit Sensitivity
• Added System Damage enable/disable (incl. during race)
• Added Body Damage enable/disable (incl. during race)
• Added Car Reset hot-key “R”
• Added “Reset Car” indicator to HUD
• Added “Wrong Way” indicator to HUD
• Fixed missing colliders on Bathurst main building
• Fixed light damage issue – lights sometimes left on after destroyed
• Fixed replay interpolation issue when resetting a car.
• Fixed replay system incorrectly undoing damage during scrubbing.
• Fixed incorrect UV mapping on advertising billboards in Bathurst

We appreciate your continued support and all of the kind and encouraging words we've gotten! Please enjoy the updates and let us know what you think. More to come!

Early Access Price Reduction

Hey Guys,

We decided to drop the price of the Early Access build to $9.99.

As this is our first go at this whole Greenlight / Early Access process, we're still feeling our way through what works and what doesn't. Trying to pick a reasonable, fair price that is accessible to more people, while simultaneously trying to target earning enough to fund the remainder of the game's development is still new territory for us. We don't really know what to expect, and there's not an easy formula availale, so we're kind of winging it.

To anyone who purchased the Early Access build already at the higher price, we apologize for the abrupt shift, but don't worry, we're more than happy to make up the difference to you and there are a couple of ways we can do that, including PayPal, check, etc.

If you're interested, you can alternatively turn your three bucks into a 6 month membership at our pretty darn awesome website for gamers and game developer's (www.gameinstitute.com). That's a $75.00 training package, so easily worth it if that kind of stuff interests you in any way. There's lots of other cool game projects we are working on that you can check out and many useful things you can learn -- you won't be disappointed.

Totally your call. Either way, we'll take care of you. Just drop me a line at joe@gameinstitute.com and let me know how you want to do it along with proof of purchase. Also include your PayPal details if you want to do PayPal or if you want me to write you a check, shoot me your name and address. If you want to go with the training membership option instead, just tell me and I'll setup your new account and send you login information. If you just want to donate the three bucks to the cause, with your best wishes, we'll take it :)

Separately, I hope everyone is enjoying the game and we can't wait to start getting some of the new content in! We are working hard on the next track right now and it is coming together very nicely. Won't be long. We appreciate all of the support we've gotten from the community and we hope to build something that everyone enjoys and would happily recommend to a friend.

GI Racing 2.0 New Update

Hey Guys

We have now updated both tracks with the visual enhancements. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.

Third Person Camera Update and Visual Enhancements

we just deployed a new build that includes a brand new chase camera that should make for a much more pleasant experience and also makes it way easier to see the track, anticipate corners, and navigate more smoothly and freely. we also started a few small graphics updates and fixed a minor glitch or two along the way, however the main focus was improving the default chase camera experience and some of the associated game physics. we hope you guys like it and please let us know your thoughts.
