Glaciered Devlog #1 : Underwater Combat

Hello, I am Shibuya from Studio Snowblind, the (solo) developer of Glaciered. Today I have released a new teaser featuring one of the main gameplay of the game, combat takes place in the 65 million years distant underwater.

Let me introduce myself a little bit, I was a former producer of Project Nimbus : Complete Edition, a fast-paced mech action indie game, also involved to a lot of action games including consoles in past. One of the goal I am trying to achieve with this game is "three-dimensional combat with a sense of speed and strategy".

Our sense of speed is relative. Distance between the player character and the camera, and the objects in between, as well as the camera FOV, determine the sense of speed. One of the reasons why I pick underwater for this game is that I can place a large number of objects with proper context, which are indicators of speed. By trying to emphasize a sense of speed by only using backgrounds, the speed of the player character becomes too fast, and the strategic aspect will be lost.

In Glaciered, visual effects such as marine snow, fish, and bubbles give players a sense of speed, keeping the speed reasonable. It would be great if the combat could have a good balance between dynamics and strategy.

This new teaser features two carnivorous species of fish. They already showed up in the first announcement trailer, but let me introduce them!

Reega, a carnivorous fish that is widely distributed in the ocean. They have long fangs, which they use to bite randomly, inflicting serious trauma to preys.

They also exhibit a pronounced sexual dimorphism. and males do not develop fangs, but instead possess organic electric organs. Watch out the powerful electric attacks produced by that!

Guedu, an apex predator that has dominated the Earth's oceans since our timeline and even before. Each attack from this mass of muscle can be lethal. Be cautious and precise, find a chance, then strike through it with your wings.

Glaciered is in development very actively. Check out the official Twitter account for more information. I'm exciting to introduce more things about the game in future!
