Gloria Victis

Coming next week: VoD siege mode, new guild boss & new glory season!

Hello Community!

Today we want to share our plans for next week’s update – and it’s going to be huge! Not only are we preparing for the end of the Glory Season, but we’re also working on the new epic Siege mode for the VoD tournament and the most challenging PvE encounter ever introduced to Gloria Victis.

Without further ado, let’s see what’s coming next week!

End of the Glory Season

The New Glory season will start next week, on Thursday, the 13th of April. Also, we’d like to remind you that the last day of the season – Wednesday, the 12th of April – will be a dedicated day of the season's end. It will not be possible to earn or lose the Nation Points on this day and the scoreboards of other season-based rankings (Glory and Arena) will be frozen then. However, it is the last chance to donate your NP to your guild as the Guild Points. When the new season starts, the Nation Points collected by a player will count from 0 as the new season will begin.

A little explanation for the new players: Glory is a season-based ranking that rewards you for activity in the faction v faction v faction PVP. The seasons last around 2 months (depending on the current updates schedule) and the top players are rewarded with unique titles and gold. Also, every Thursday night you’ll get Contribution Points – an in-game currency used to purchase special items from the Glory Quartermasters. The amount of earned CP depends on your position on the leaderboard, so draw your weapons and fight your way to the top!

New VoD Siege mode and map

As you all know, last week we enabled the Valley of Death Tournaments on the New Beginning servers. This was a very important step towards the introduction of Guild Castles, as well as a key feature that brought more variety to the daily PvP offering multiple game modes and a variety of maps to play on!

Now, we want to take it a step further and bring even more new, and interesting content to the Valley of Death Tournament — a siege game mode! This new game mode will feature its own, unique map, designed to hold sieges with more than 300 players! We believe that this new map will become an interesting addition to current gameplay, as well as a playground for Nations and Guilds to test their combat and tactical skills!

This new mode will include the usage of siege engines, ladders, and destroying buildings in order to break through to the heart of the castle, capturing courtyards to then face the full might of the enemies in the last epic brawl for the final flag!

Exclusive guild boss

We want the new season to bring new content to Guilds too, thus we are introducing a new and unique boss to the game. Find a special altar and make your offerings, and then cooperate to survive and gain precious rewards!

The new boss will be the biggest PvE challenge in the game as of yet. Its unique mechanics and specially prepared altar locations will be a real test of the guilds’ cooperation skills as well as require each member to show their full combat skills and discipline!

The new boss is a mysterious creature, and we don’t want to introduce its identity just yet. It will be up to the guilds to find their way to the altars and summon the boss and tell their tale… if they prove brave enough to survive the fight!

New Lore Collections

With the start of the new season, explorers will receive some more content too! We will be introducing 84 new lore fragments, scattered around the world for players to find. The new lore is grouped up into 9 collections, with each collection being hidden in specific regions of Stoneholm! Get ready to roam the lands and find them all!

New Beginning Server Merges

With the end of the season, we will also be merging some servers together. Thanks to the server-side optimizations that we have been making for the past few weeks, with the most important one coming live today, we will be able to increase the capacity of the servers, thus offering more challenging fights, epic sieges, and a world even fuller of player activity!

We will be merging the following servers together:

Wolfield 2, 3, and 4 will be merged together and take the name of Wolfield 2
Holmridge 2, 3, and 4 will be merged together and take the name of Holmridge 2
Dunshire 1, and 2 will be merged together and take the name of Dunshire 1.

As we always clearly stated, we are not planning on merging Legacy and New Beginning in the foreseeable future.

Legacy server merges

Based on the data we gathered, we have decided to merge the Eaglewood, Aquilla, and Dukla Legacy servers together and create a new, global Legacy server.

We can see that the overall population of the Legacy servers is low, which results in a lack of action across the servers, bringing stagnation and a lack of fun. Merging the servers will increase the balance and improve the amount of action that happens on the Legacy server.

We believe that due to the ping compensation system in-game, merging the servers is a much better solution than leaving three servers with minimal activity.

We are aware of the voices of some members of our Community, that the Legacy servers should be merged with the New Beginning servers, however, as we have already mentioned, there are no plans for such a move in the foreseeable future. The servers will be merged eventually, however, based on the data we have, we believe this is not yet that moment. The economic disparity between Legacy and New Beginning servers is too big to maintain fair and competitive gameplay. New Beginning servers are still new and very active, thus they need time to mature and stabilize on their own.

Update 355 — Community Feedback Addressed

Hello Community!

Today we are coming to you with a big batch of fixes and improvements, as well as a very important new feature for castle sieges, and a new attack variant — kick in motion! We can’t wait to see how this new attack type will perform on the battlefields.

Without any further ado, let’s see what today’s update brings!

Changelog v.1.1

Adjustments in Siege rules

Thanks to the feedback of our community, we have decided to implement a new feature for castle sieges. From now on, when the siege activity is over, and the countdown till the end of the siege starts, the last remaining enemy players near the main location will be marked on the minimap for the defenders. Thanks to this new feature, players will be unable to hide and keep up the siege for a long time without actively attacking the castle.

Gloria Victis - Work in Progress Insight

Hello Community!

It’s been over a month since Gloria Victis 1.0 release and we are happy to see so many of you enjoying the game! And if you still don't own the game, it's a perfect time to get it 35% off and start your epic medieval adventure!

With most of the post-release work over, we believe it is the right time to share more information on the upcoming updates for Gloria Victis!

Server-side optimizations

Our core programmers are working on a few improvements to the server-side optimizations. This is a task of significant importance, as once we are done with this task, not only will the servers be more stable, but the change will enable us to further increase the player cap across the servers.

This change is a very needed step towards bringing back the new Guild Castles and State of War systems. Finishing the work on the server-side optimization will let our core programmers continue the development of these very important and much-desired features. We can’t wait to share some more information on these systems in the future!

The return of the Valley of Death Tournament

The changes to server stability will also give us the option to re-enable the Valley of Death Tournaments on the New Beginning Servers. They needed to be temporarily disabled due to a bug making certain players invisible upon returning from the event. This has been caused by the amount of data for the servers to process once moving so many players across servers.

In our eyes, Valley of Death Tournaments is an important part of the gameplay as it enables players to join daily massive PvP with equal numbers, and enables players to test their skills and cooperation, as well as obtain valuable rewards.

We are planning to perform some tests of the Valley of Death later this week, so keep an eye out for the invites for that event in-game!

New Siege Valley of Death Tournament mode

Our priority is to bring back the Valley of Death Tournaments, as they are a fun and important part of gameplay. We plan on adding some more flavor to this mode by introducing a special Siege Mode, hosted on a map exclusively designed for that game mode.

The new map and mode will feature a massive siege, designed to host battles for even hundreds of players, with several layers of defenses, where one of the nations will be defending the castle against the other two nations. We cannot wait to see this map being played by our Community and are really looking forward to seeing all the interesting tactics and fights taking place in that unique mode.

This game mode will be a great playground for us to test and improve new siege mechanics that might later be implemented to the open world sieges, as well as State of War battles!

End of the Glory Season

We will be announcing the end date for the current Glory Season soon. We want the end of the season to be tied with the introduction of some major changes, so before we can reveal the date, we want to make sure that these features will be ready for that date.

The amount of earned CP depends on your position in the leaderboard!

New Beginning Server merges

The new season will begin with a server merge — thanks to the server-side optimizations we are working on right now, we will be able to merge some servers together to offer more PvP content, bigger battles, and more activity around the map.

The following servers will be merged:
  • Wolfield 2, 3, and 4 will be merged together and take the name of Wolfield 2
  • Holmridge 2, 3, and 4 will be merged together and take the name of Holmridge 2
  • Dunshire 1, and 2 will be merged together and take the name of Dunshire 1.

Graphics Upgrade

For the past two weeks, we have been upgrading the graphics of trees, as the first part of our global graphics upgrade. We will be bringing even more upgraded graphics and new effects in the upcoming weeks.

We are currently working on more tree models, bushes, environmental particles, and some models that are widely used around the game world.

We believe that these improvements will make the world look much better and make it feel more authentic and immersive.

Beginner Quests Update

We are constantly monitoring the data and listening to the Community feedback, trying to improve the Beginner Questlines in a way that will make them more valuable for the new players. We want the quests to be a good tutorial area for our new players and teach them the mechanics they will come across later in their adventure.

Part of our team is currently working on bringing more tutorial quests into the questlines for all three nations that will improve the way the new players' experience, boosting both the fun and tutorial aspects of these questlines.

More and reworked PvE activities

We want the world of Gloria Victis to be a living world, with multiple activities for players to enjoy. Our goal is and always was to give players the ability to gain experience and riches by completing the activities they want to do — be it PvP, PvE, exploration, crafting, etc.

With this in mind, our design team is working on introducing more fun and unique PvE events, new locations, and points of interest to explore, as well as on reworking current events for a fresh experience.

Daily Restart Times

This Sunday we have changed our time in Poland to summertime. This means that the daily restart time has changed too. From now on, the daily restart of the servers will take place at 8:20 am UTC.

Update 354 — Combat balance

Hello Warriors!
Today’s update brings a lot of important tweaks and adjustments for combat, brings some more optimization changes for the servers, and introduces some more tree variants following the last week’s update.

Without any further delay, let’s see what today’s update brings!

Changelog v.1.0.9

Changes to weapon lengths and controller adjustments

Based on the data we have gathered and our internal tests, we have been able to make some adjustments to the controller. The improvements should make fighting more pleasant, with less body blocking and a better feeling for shorter weapons.

What is more, today we are applying some changes to certain weapons that should improve the overall balance on the battlefield. We have decided, based on our data and the feedback of our Community, to make the two-handed spears longer, increasing their range from 10.3 to 11, and the Hordun Greatspear from 11 to 12. We have also decided to shorten the halberd from 11 to 10.7 and decrease its damage modifier from side attacks from 1.0x to 0.95x.

These changes should improve the variety of weapons used in combat as well as make their balance much better. Shortening the halberd and increasing the length of spears will make them a viable alternative for the halberd, breaking its domination as the weapon of choice for players wanting the highest range.

More tree types

Following the update we made last week, we are adding more reworked tree variants and some fixes and adjustments to the ones already added. From now on, you will see more and improved variants of conifers in the snowy regions, and variants of trees for more arid regions around — around Sangmar zones and traitor camps.

Quality of Life

  • Added an option to link the item's name to the market search bar (Shift + LMB). You can use this feature on all the items in your inventory, as well as on the items that are already on the market.
  • Added information about the current lowest price of an item in the selling window on the market. The visible price is the lowest price for that item of a specific reinforcement level.
  • Removed non-existent workshop types from crafting recipes to make them less confusing

Fixes

  • Fixed some treasure chest locations.
  • Fixed some NPCs playing walking animation while standing in place.
  • Fixed an event “Highlanders” not showing on the map in the Ismir starting zone.
  • Fixed some translations for crafting boards.
  • A batch of Level Design fixes all around the games’ world.
  • Lowered terrain near Audunstede to prevent faster entry into the castle.
  • Fixed some colliders in Stone Walls
  • Fixed missing workshop icons in the crafting window

Update 353 — Spring is coming

Hello Warriors!
With nature starting to wake up after the winter, so do the trees in Gloria Victs! With today’s update part of the game's foliage has received a graphical overhaul which is the first step on our way to a full overhaul of nature in the game, today’s update also brings a new type of questboards as well as a batch of quality of life features and fixes. While part of our team still works on further optimization and improvements to the stability of servers, the remaining part of the team is back to working on the upcoming features and new content that will be coming in the following weeks.

Without any further ado, let’s see what today’s update brings!

Changelog v.1.0.8

Graphical Overhaul — Part 1

Our Artists and Level Designers are hard at work to bring some more graphical enhancements that will improve the overall visuals of the game. This week, we are implementing a big batch of re-created trees to the game as well as improvements to the visuals of the wooden fences and other small props. The new trees have more variants than before, making the forests around the world of Gloria Victis look more unique and varied. This is the first part of the upgrade, which will be continued in the following weeks to bring even more reworked visuals to the game!

Crafting Tutorial Questboards

This week brings a new series of quesboards — Crafting Tutorial Questboards. These new questboards are located around the safezone of each nation, and provide special lower-tier (up to tier 3) crafting orders that award players with tokens that can be exchanged for crafting recipes. These questboards are a great way to level up your crafting skills and progress faster through the crafting profession levels.

New Horse Skins

We are introducing three new skins for horses this week. Be sure to check them out in game, and ride to battle with style!

Improvements in treasure hunting

We have taken our time to better show the places of buried treasures! From now, they will be showing not only marked by a quest marker but also have their own model! Grab a shovel, and go for some treasure hunting!

Quality of Life

  • Faster fire extinguishing when a location is not sieged.
  • Adjusted crafting professions for certain crafts
  • Mount Skins have now a separate filter in the market
  • Adjusted rewards for some events in the safezone
  • Improved the search bar in the market window. From now on it will hint at the searched items’ names.
  • Added a welcome page to the market.
  • Removed the “Forestry and Farming” crafting profession. All the recipes have been added to other categories. The profession didn't offer a whole range of recipes making it extremely hard to grind up to level 100 without any real use case.
  • Globally optimized the terrains of the game's world. This change should reduce the RAM/VRAM usage.

Fixes

  • Fixed some graphical errors for rocks and cliffs.
  • Fixed an issue causing workstations not to have a lootzone bonus after a server restart.
  • Smoothed the increase in workstations’ temperature.
  • Optimized the way the workstation manages its temperature level and the fuel it uses
  • Fixed an issue causing the crafting quests not to be counted for the weekly rankings.

Update 352 – Quality of Life

Hello Warriors!

We are very happy and proud to see so many of you enjoying the game, while we are getting back to our regular work schedule. Today we are introducing a number of important changes that will improve the overall quality of life for all the players, as well as some server-side optimizations. Part of our team is also back at work creating new content that will be getting introduced in the following weeks, so sharpen your swords and prepare for what will be coming soon to the world of Gloria Victis.

We would also like to make an important statement about the New Beginning Server merges.

Without any further delay, let’s see what today’s update brings!

Changelog v.1.0.7

Current State of Servers

A month has passed since the launch and after the intense time, now comes the stabilization. During the release, we set up more servers than would normally be needed, and now, with improved servers’ performance and the stabilization of the population, we believe it is important to merge some of the servers. The planned merge should bring the population together, bringing more fun and challenging than before. We have decided to merge certain servers together in such a way that will maintain the balance between all the nations and increase the number of fun battles and activities that will be happening on such servers.

The merge will take place on the 10th of March, after the weekly rankings end, in order for the players to receive the reward they have earned. After the merge, the Glory, Guild, and Arena rankings of the servers will be merged together. The following servers will be merged together:

Europe Region:
- Wolfield 3 and Wolfield 6 will be merged under the name of Wolfied 3
- Wolfield 4 and Wolfield 5 will be merged under the name of Wolfied 4

NA/SA Region:
- Holmridge 3 and Holmridge 4 will be merged under the name of Holmridge 3
- Holmridge 5 and Holmridge 6 will be merged under the name of Holmridge 4

Some details:
  1. When merging 2 servers, we will keep the player-controlled locations data from the server with a lower number.
Example: when Holmridge 3 and Holmridge 4 will be merged under the name of Holmridge 3, they will keep the locations data from Holmridge 3.
  2. Workstations from both of the merged servers will have to be removed but you will get back the resources you put into them – you will be able to receive them from the Market
  3. Merging the rankings – if you are already listed in the same ranking on both of the merged servers, we will save the higher of these values.
Example: if you have 1,000 Glory Points on Holmridge 3 and 2,000 Glory Points on Holmridge 4, after the merge you will have the higher of these values – 2,000 Glory Points in this case.
  4. The Underdog status will be cleared on the merged servers.
  5. After the merge, the 60 day cooldown for switching to the Underdog nation by using the Mercenary Recruiter will be cleared for all New Beginning servers. This cooldown is triggered by changing your main server. You will be able to join an underdog nation even if you changed your main server in the last 60 days.

This will allow for more challenge, as there will be more players competing on the same server, and more opportunities for large-scale battles.

Changes in the Market

Today’s update brings a change that will improve how the Market works. From now on, not only will it become faster to use, but will become more responsive with a special loading icon showing that the players’ request is being processed. From now on, the Market will run smoother and with fewer lags, making it more reliable and more pleasurable to use.

Update 351 – The dust settles

Hello Warriors!

The last few weeks were really intense for us but we’re so happy and proud to see the world of Gloria Victis so populated and alive! We hope you enjoy the game as much as we do enjoy creating it.

We’re slowly getting back to our normal work schedule. Today we have for you the first regular update since the 1.0 launch. Besides the changes listed below, there are countless smaller fixes and improvements we made in the meantime – most of them were already applied to the servers.

At the same time, we continue working on other, larger tasks to solve the most urgent problems. Improving the servers’ performance and stability, and getting rid of the issues preventing players from enjoying the game remains our top priority.

Check the changes and see you in battle!

Week 1 Summary

Hello Warriors!

It’s been a week since the 1.0 launch! It was a busy and demanding time for our team, full of overnight work to provide you the best experience. But it was so rewarding to see our Community rise in numbers fast and newcomers receiving such a warm welcome from the returning players.

Thanks to you, the lands of Stoneholm have never been so alive!

What have we achieved over the last week?

  1. The peak of concurrent players increased 10x compared to the pre-launch times.
  2. The number of available New Beginning servers increased to meet the needs of growing player population.
  3. It seems that we have fixed almost all of the most frequent cases of critical issues which started to happen after such an influx of new players, such as: “Steam authentication”, “Connecting to Steam”, infinite characters loading and corrupted characters’ data. Please remember to let us know if you will still have those issues for further investigation - our Support Team will help you as soon as possible!
  4. Several server-side optimization improvements
  5. Numerous improvements to prevent the progression data rollbacks in future
  6. Fixes to reported issues in the quests, events and dialogs
  7. Responded to over 2,000+ support tickets reported both on Discord and our support email (support@gloriavictisgame.com)

Even though it was a tough time for us, we’re proud of what we – and you, the Community! – have achieved in such a short time. Despite being a team of less than 20 developers, we successfully addressed all the launch issues most frequently mentioned in the recent reviews.

Now that the all-time Steam reviews are back to “Mostly positive” ratio, we hope the same will soon happen to the last 30 days reviews. It helps us get better visibility and show the world the game that many of you came to love as much as we, the developers, do.

What we’re working on?

By the end of this week, we plan to:
* Apply further improvements to the servers’ performance and stability,
* Apply fixes to the remaining edge-case issues,
* Launch the Valley of Death PvP Tournaments on all servers. (We have just started 300 players Valley of Death tests with you! :))

Thank you for all your support!

With all the love and regards for our Community,
Black Eye Games

Hotfix - Firewall Issue Fix & 1.0 Launch Summary

Hello Community!

We survived the first 2 days after the 1.0 Launch. For our small team, it’s truly been an intense time. But we’re finally able to catch some breath and inform you about our progress, as well as the plans for the next few days!

On the launch, we did expect a lot of newcomers and returning users. But even to us, it’s heartwarming to see so many players in-game! Each night the concurrent users count hits a new all-time peak. The world of Stoneholm is more alive than ever with the ongoing wars, and the economy is blooming as so many users are now crafting and trading equipment and supplies.

This wouldn’t be possible without you – the players! Your support and good words were and still are fueling our team as we work day and night, barely sleeping at all, to solve the most urgent issues that happened on launch. We’d like to thank you all for all your support, and special thanks go to the veterans helping new users in-game, on our Discord and in the Steam forums. You’re simply amazing!

Since the first 48 hours, we applied 6 hotfixes and now it’s time for another one. Read the details below!

Hotfix 2023-02-10

Connecting – the Firewall issue fix

We’d like to thank every player who helped our Community Managers and Support Team collect data on the most notable connecting issue – the “Firewall is blocking connection” error on the loading screen. Just as we initially suspected, this appeared to be a different issue displaying a wrong error message.

The problem has been resolved this morning on a daily restart. We still focus on solving all remaining issues with connecting so you can expect further hotfixes every day.

If you have further connecting issues, our Support Team is at your disposal via email: support@gloriavictisgame.com. And our Community Managers, Coragon, Veland and Bartold, do their best to answer your questions and assist you on Discord!

Performance improvements

We also focused on improving the performance and stability of the database and related infrastructure. Each hotfix includes fixes and improvements to this matter. In effect, we’re consequently reducing the loading times and occurrences of data loading issues.

Quests fixes

We're continuously fixing all the reported issues with quests, including bugged bosses, impossible interactions with quest objects and so on. Thank you for reporting them!

Valley of Death Tournaments are turned on

We solved an issue which prevented players from enjoying the Valley of Death Tournaments and they are again available on all servers, both the New Beginning and Legacy ones. VoD is a special PvP tournament taking place on one of the dedicated maps with up to 50v50v50 players fighting against enemy factions. We already saw a full VoD today with 150 players involved! You can see the exact hours when VoD starts on your server in the Upcoming Events window ([U] key by default).

What we’re working on?

Even though the last few days have been intense for our team, we keep working as hard on further improvements. Our top priority is:

Fixing remaining connection issues
This includes fixes to several different issues, such as being stuck in the main menu on Connecting to Steam” and “Steam authentication”. In both cases, it helps to simply restart the Steam client and the game but you can expect proper fixes in the following days.

Reducing the character loading times
For several reasons, the character loading can take a few minutes longer at times. We’re optimizing this process to improve your experience and prevent unexpected data corruption.
