A New Way Forward



We are happy to announce that we have replaced our dedicated server solution with a more permanent one, allowing players to once again search for matches in the online Play menu! So jump back in and start searching!

The Return of Draft Showdown



After much consideration and requests, we have brought back Draft Showdown as the main game mode for Godsbane. We feel this adds a far more strategic and exciting element to the game.



New Power: Wicked Path




Grants the bearer [6/9/15] damage. At the start of each round, condemn the tile the bearer stands on. When an enemy steps on a condemned tile, it gets dealt [10/15/25] magic damage per second for the rest of the round. Condemned tiles that haven't been stepped on persist the entire match.

Noteworthy Updates




  • There has been a complete re-write of the backend networking code, improving stability and reducing issues when playing online matches.

  • Unit skins are now no longer purchased with gold but earned through achievements.


Balance Updates




  • Priestess: Base healing increased from 40 to 55.
  • Treant: Heal over time increased from 40 to 50. Base damage increase from 56 to 58. Max health increased from 1500 to 1550.

Version 1.12

After a long period in the dark, we have revisited our primary game mode and have made the decision to revert back to the classic constructed mode where your custom drafts are taken into battle. This applies for all means of ranked, solo play and friendly challenges.

Dedicated servers will continue to remain offline for the time being, however you're always able to jump and on have a friendly match with a Steam friend via the challenge system!

Version 1.11

We have regretfully had to make the decision to move away from our backend provider and shut down dedicated servers for the time being. In its place, matches will now be held using Steam servers via player hosted lobbies. This can still be done through the usual Play menus and a fully featured lobby browser is now in place.

New Unit: Ezken





Fire an orb in the direction of the furthest enemy that passes through all units, dealing [85/130/220] pierce damage to enemies or healing allies for the same amount.

New Power: Displacement





At the start of battle, swap the bearer's position with the furthest enemy in the same row. The bearer additionally takes [25%/35%/50%] less damage for the first [4/5/7] seconds of battle.

General




  • Changes to the pool to make rolls more consistent later on in the match.
  • You are no longer able to play two copies of the same unit but once a unit has reached level three you will no longer draw additional copies in the shop (Identical to how Powers work).
  • Updated German translations.

New Skin: Angelic Voidbringer



General




  • Mana granted per turn increased to 9, up from 8.
  • All practice play modes are now the Showdown game mode, with the exception of the tutorial and Freestyle.


Balance




  • Spirit Wolf: Healing reduced from 45% down to 35%.
  • Adapt Magic, Blunt and Pierce bonus ability damage reduced from 40% down to 35%.

Free to Play


With the launch to a free-to-play mode, we would like to thank all of our early supporters! All players that have previously purchased a copy of Godsbane received the following:




  • An exclusive Baseball Grenadier skin.
  • The 'Early Bird' title. Those that unlocked this title during the launch event will now have 'Early Bird II'.
  • 5000 Devotion.


New Skin: Artillery Heavy Gunner





General




  • Ranked and Casual are now both the Showdown game mode. There are plans to re-introduce a Ranked Constructed mode in the future. Offline practice remains Constructed.
  • The 50 000 gold cap has been removed.


Balance




  • Darkmage: Gains extra damage for allies that die within 2 tiles, up from 1.
  • Shadowstalker: No longer gains extra movement speed while its ability is active.
  • Rally: Now has infinite range. Shield given reduced from 75 down to 30.
  • Arrogance: Now taunts all surrounding enemies within 1 tile on round start. Additionally grants a [125/190/320] shield.
  • Lone Wolf: Now grants [14/21/28]% lifesteal instead of health and will grant half the effectiveness if in range of allies instead of granting nothing.
  • Lifewell: No longer distributes in a 2 tile radius at level 3.


Bug Fixes




  • Various server stability fixes.

General




  • Season 1 has come to an end however ranks will remain as is until the next official Ladder begins. Showdown is now the primary ranked mode with Constructed replacing it as the secondary casual mode. Challenge matches are now also Showdown mode.

New Power: Deflective Armour





Gain [8/12/20] basic attack damage and gain a [200/300/500] blunt damage shield every 6 seconds.

New Powers: Adapt Magic and Adapt Pierce



Adapt has been renamed to Adapt Blunt. These powers function in a similar way but grant Magic and Pierce damage as opposed to Blunt damage.

New Powers: Blunt Affinity and Pierce Affinity



These powers function in a similar way to Magic Affinity but work with Blunt and Pierce damage as opposed to Magic damage.

Balance




  • Units will now unlock their second power slot at level 2 and not level 3. This is in an effort to narrow the gap between 1 and 3 mana cost units mid-game while making power choices more relevant across the board.
  • Redirect has been removed from the game.
  • Vitality now works in a similar way to Mage Cloak and Deflective Armour instead of granting permanent pierce resistance.
  • Mage Cloak: Now additionally grants [20%/30%/40%] ability damage.


Bug Fixes




  • Fixed a number of issues that would cause a match to crash.
  • Fixed an issue causing all players to select Sol as their Deity when playing Showdown.

Godsbane Moves Free To Play

After a great amount of feedback from the dedicated community, we have made the decision to shift Godsbane towards a free-to-play model launching Wednesday 11 May. We want Godsbane to be as accessible to as many players as possible and we feel this is the way to move forward with that goal.

Will Godsbane have pay-to-win elements now?



No. We stand firm on our decision to keep the fair competitive aspect as strong as we can. All monetization is strictly cosmetic only.

If I already purchased Godsbane before this update, what happens now?



All existing players will be given an extremely generous amount of Devotion, our new cosmetic currency.

Unit Skins and Showdown Game Mode

New Feature: Skins



Work towards unlocking weird and wonderful skins for your units and show off to your enemies!



Experimental New Mode: Showdown



In this brand new mode, you'll be able to construct your draft on the fly just before the match starts. Given a limited amount of time, you must pick the right units and powers from a limited pool to destroy your opponent!



Each player is given 15 seconds to pick one out of three units or powers until their draft is full and the match begins.

General




  • Divine Trials may now only be completed in Ranked mode.
  • Solo matches, Divine Trials and Whack-A-Sol no longer award gold as rewards.
  • Starting mana reverted back up to 10 based on community feedback.


Balance




Sentinel: Ability damage is now correctly calculated based on damage taken during the curse and not absolute health lost. This will prevent shields and healing from rendering the ability useless.


Kiros: Health reduced from 970 down to 900.


Lightsmith: Basic attack damage reduced from 26 down to 22.


Rock Golem: Health reduced from 855 down to 800.


Rogue: Health reduced from 750 down to 690.


Clear Mind: Proc time reduced from 6.5 down to 6 seconds.

Bug Fixes




  • Fixed a major bug where servers would not shut down correctly if a player disconnects before a match finished occasionally.
  • Pilfer will now steal the correct amount of damage from surrounding enemies.
