Visual unit upgrades
Two words: VISUAL UPGRADES. It's a feature a lot of RTS fans want. Seeing your simple militant go from wearing rags and farm tools to sharp and deadly halberds, then chainmail and actual metal helmets feels great.
In Godsworn units and buildings can be upgraded by granting them better gear or giving them a blessing from the gods. The upgrades available to you depend on the divine hero you have chosen. Some heroes have unique upgrades, allowing for new uses of the same unit. For example, the Warrior by default has an upgrade for glistening armor and the relentless passive ability, allowing them to fight on at the brink of death. Meanwhile, the Warriors of Meness gain the upgrades to learn pack tactics and equip the wolfblades.

Godsworn composer and track reveal
We are very proud to announce that our composer for Godsworn is Claude Houde / OB-Lix Original Music. The track is called Sunrise, and it's for early gameplay sections for the goddess Saule.
In Godsworn we use several thematic tracks for each divine hero. The game's system will dynamically change the music to reflect the intensity of combat, from a calm build up and exploration, to tense skirmishes, up to the most destructive god powers being unleashed to destroy your enemy.
We hope you enjoy this preview of the soundtrack!
Core structure - Shrine
This week we are finally revealing our core structure - the shrine!
Your worshippers have created a statue in your image and their prayers have called you to appear to them. This is a location where more followers join your cause, and a healing refuge for the faithful.
Give the gathered other tasks such as farming or mining, but don't forget that you need their prayers for divine acts. Gain access to blessings of minor gods by adding idols around your shrine for their worship.
And shall your shrine fall, you won't be able to return to keep fighting for your devoted followers.
These minor god idols grant blessings for additional upgrades for buildings and units.
A - Janis, god of passage, travel, gateways and change of seasons B - Teliavelis, the celestial smith C - Medeina, goddess of wildlife and the hunt, she-wolf D - Junda, goddess of valor, called upon by soldiers in battle E - Jumis, god of harvest and fertility, resides in everything double F - Gabija, goddess of fire and hearth

Early details about the hero Meness, god of the Moon
The dark and cold is taking hold where we are, so this week we can all blame Meness the Moon god for it. You've seen a little bit of his gameplay, and now there's a closer look at his lore.
God of the Moon. Patron of warriors. The nine horned stag.
Meness lights a silver path for warriors as they travel at night, stalking like wolves, striking the enemy at its most vulnerable, then disappearing into the shadows.
The common folk describe him as a warrior prince in bright armor and a cape of stars, but he is a king in his own right. A god most receptive to prayers while quick to anger at mockery
Taking care of his stardaughters, he counts them all each night. In doing so, he teaches mathematics and astronomy to humanity. Tribes organize their life according to the lunar calendar, with the waxing moon promoting growth, the waning destruction.
Meness was married to Saule, the sun goddess, but they have grown apart since. Now they watch over opposite sides of the day.
Dark it was, light it became, Meness rode at night. I saddled a black horse With silver reins and coins. Then I could ride in the dark, When the moon would shine. Now my horse glistens In a blanket of stars.
A high damage dealing assassin that uses ambush tactics.

Early details about the hero Saule, goddess of the Sun
It's getting dark and rainy where we are, so what we need is some early details about the Baltic Sun goddess Saule!
As usual, everything is a work in progress, the whole frontend is placeholder. We've hidden some unannounced units but you are free to speculate (and join our Discord to talk to us directly).
Saule. Goddess of the Sun. Mother of stars. Warden of the world tree.
During the day, Saule rides a golden horse across the sky, bringing warmth, health and bountiful harvests. Her stardaughters often join her, as they must bring the souls of the fallen to the afterlife.
At dusk she reaches the sea where her horse is washed, and she embarks on a golden boat towards the world tree. There resides her silver castle and a golden orchard. Her servants Ausrine and Vakarine, the dawn and dusk stars, take care of the tree while she's gone.
Saule was wed to Meness, the moon god, but they have grown apart since. Now they watch over opposite sides of the day.
A warrior with healing powers. Strong wealth based economy.
Sun shines on the rye fields. Raining upon the golden fruit. I am not allowed to slumber. Amidst green birches I ride in the light. Upon the waves of water. I steer my golden boat at night. Of gold or silver or of copper. Another will be shaped tomorrow.

Godsworn unit concept art
We wanted to talk a little bit about some of our concept art process and show some behind-the-scenes artwork.
Before any concepting is done we start with creating a mock-up in engine with primitives and odd props. This allows us to get a general feeling for the unit we are designing and allows us to play test with the units before any actual art is created.
After we agree the unit is ready to get an art pass we start making the first sketches on paper. We quickly iterate through a couple of options and then start taking it into the digital format were we line them up next to other concepts. This allows us to make a consistent line-up and improve any overlap in unit read.
Close observers will notice some differences between the concepts and revealed in-game versions. Often publicly shown game concept art is reverse-engineered, but we wanted to show you how these things actually evolve through iteration. The most noticeable one is probably among the Baltic units - the weapons of some of the infantry were swapped around after some more play testing and discussion on how the unit reads.
