Patch Notes v0.9.2

Campaign
  • In campaign level 3, we removed the Enhanced Battery Stack from the research list and replaced it with the Double Battery Stack for less confusion with the level's flow.
  • We have re-balanced campaign level 5 to make it a little easier:
    • The first trophy can now be unlocked by reaching 24 000 G monthly profit
    • Starting debt changed from 300 000 G to 250 000 G; lease costs have been decreased from 12 000 G to 6 000 G; early debt payback rate lowered from 30% to 20%
    • The required production amounts for Cleaning Bot and Courier Bot tasks have been reduced from 200 to 100 for the first goal and from 400 to 250 for the second goal

Fixes
  • Fixed problems that could occur when changing the bandwidth for items in the logistics view
  • Production employees could sometimes get stuck carrying the wrong item around
  • Fixed a wrong warning for items that no longer exist on a pallet
  • Fixed a bug that would let the research list jump up after scrolling down
  • Fixed an issue with logistics sometimes not recognizing items on courier pallets even though they are included as input/output on a courier route

Good Company - Update v0.9 "Improving Foundations"

Greetings Tinkerers & Tycoons,

It has been almost a year since we launched Good Company's Early Access! With the support of our awesome community, Good Company has received lots of new content, improvements, and fixes – not only with the previous big updates but also in between. Good Company v0.9 "Improving Foundations" won't be different, of course!

The last big update introduced many new mechanics, such as Company Goals, Policies, and Business Development. These additions expanded the gameplay experience far beyond production aspects and aimed for more depth. With this foundation set, today's update focuses on overhauling two central systems that have been part of the game for quite a while:

Players new to Good Company can enjoy a highly improved tutorial, while more seasoned tycoons will be especially interested in the changes we have made to the Courier System.

To elaborate a little more on these two new systems, our lead engineer has written a post giving you greater insight into what's in store!

Also, Good Company v0.9 will also contain a host of bug fixes for challenges, logistics, and conveyor belts - along with other neat conveniences. For more details please check out the changelog below.

We highly recommend you check out our post about General Update Information and suggestions about how to report issues and bugs.

Our beta testers shared very positive feedback, and now we are more than curious to see what the whole community thinks! Please share your findings and thoughts via the Steam Forums, our Official Discord, on Reddit, or write to support@chasing-carrots.com

We are already looking forward to hearing from you!

All the best,
Your Chasing Carrots

Good Company v0.9 – changelog

Enhanced Tutorial

  • Detailed To-Do lists and object highlighting precisely guide players through all tasks
  • Every important mechanic will be introduced beforehand by 2-3 column panel instructions
  • These instructions are also accessible through the manual
  • The tutorial spans from campaign levels 1-4 which have all been revamped
  • Level 5 has been changed too, introducing new story elements
  • There are new achievements connected to the tutorial (some of which are hidden)
  • The campaign introduces 4 new characters, who spice up the story
  • Starting from level 4, levels allow the progression through Company Goals and Business Development
  • Campaign levels 6-8 will be revamped at a later point - and we will be adding more levels in the future
  • Revamped levels, starting with level 5, will contain all features that are available in the Freeplay mode (e.g. Company Policies and features being added to the game later on)
  • After completing a level, the back-to-map option will be pointed out to players more clearly

Improved Courier System

  • The Courier System UI and handling has been completely redesigned
  • Courier routes now have a finite amount of item slots
    • Players need to set which items should get transported via a route
    • Via the route settings, players can now set at which pallets couriers should pick up or put down specific items

  • Adding more couriers to a route will no longer increase the range of items that can be transported on a route. All couriers assigned to a route will do whatever has been configured in the route setting
  • The new Courier System will be explained very early, in level 2 (milestones 3 and 4)

More Improvements

  • Logistics employees will no longer constantly place items on conveyor belts. They can choose other tasks first until these have been addressed, to a specific degree
  • Access to Freeplay mode no longer requires players to finish Campaign levels 1 and 2. We still highly recommend new players complete the tutorial before because Freeplay does not provide any gameplay explanations.
  • We have improved the display of reserved inventory slots for better visual information when other items than the ones reserved have been placed in a slot.
  • The behavior of production employees got adapted in regards to reserved slots
  • Tables can now be directly copied by holding Ctrl and clicking an existing table. Note, that the set recipe will also be active on the copy.
  • All tables of a type now have slight color variations

Bugfixes

  • Fixed various bugs in the challenges Module Mania, Smart as a Cup, Money Rush, and Product Frenzy
  • Fixed (automatic) logistics issues, which especially occurred in combination with inventory overrides set on tables
  • Fixed crash on load when an overhead segment was removed during the game (affected save games will now load without crashing)
  • Fixed automatic machines having problems when the module was switched to another one with similar materials
  • Fixed issues with special conveyor belt setups
  • Fixed loading save games stuck in loading screen with problematic conveyor belt setups

Good Company - New Tutorial and Courier Routes

Hello fellow tycoons,

The next major update for Good Company is just around the corner, so we wanted to give you a quick peek into what we’ve been working on during the past few months.

New Tutorial

Before starting to work on new gameplay mechanics we wanted to look back and investigate the problems brought to our attention. We realised that there was a large group of issues, reported by new players in particular, that were not actual bugs but rather misinterpretations of how certain parts of the game work. Additionally, a lot of feedback suggested that the game didn’t contain sufficient explanations and that most players had to overcome certain comprehension hurdles before being able to fully enjoy the game.

It was obvious that these problems had to be addressed before moving on to new features. Hence, we dedicated most of our work on the next major update to a new and more comprehensive tutorial system. This includes things such as detailed and context sensitive UI highlights guiding new players through the game’s structure, step by step to-do lists outlining the next course of action, and fullscreen instruction panels pointing out core concepts and illustrating them with videos and images.

We wanted the tutorial to be an organic part of the game, so we decided to integrate it into the campaign. New players should be able to enjoy themselves while learning the ropes instead of viewing these parts of Good Company as something they had to get over with. The tutorial is covered in the first four levels and then gradually transitions into the more challenging parts of the campaign. More advanced mechanics, especially those appearing in the late game, may still be introduced in later levels.

As you might’ve guessed, this required us to redo large parts of the first campaign levels. We took this as an opportunity to put more work into the campaign’s narrative and connect it with the tutorial parts. You can expect new characters making an appearance and a nice new coat of storytelling 'paint' to make it more interesting.

We hope this will significantly improve Good Company’s accessibility for new players, and maybe even clear up some misconceptions for those already familiar with the game.

More Control over Couriers

With the new tutorial, we mostly addressed issues new players would be facing. But since this is going to be a major update, we didn’t want to leave seasoned players empty handed. The courier route system in the 0.8.x versions has been repeatedly criticised for being very restrictive and a source of frustration for players who wanted to get out more of their logistics setups. On our end, the courier system was a minimal implementation that allowed us to play the game but still had some important functionality missing. And since it plays such a central role in the game’s logistics, it was a natural choice for an overhaul.

In the upcoming 0.9 update, courier routes will give you much more control over their settings. Each route will be able to handle up to six item types. For each item type, you’ll be able to define a courier action at each pallet on the route: pick up or unload. For each action, you can also define an item amount and for the ‘pick up’ action there is an additional ‘minimum storage’ value that determines the minimum amount of items that have to remain on the pallet after picking up. You can assign multiple employees to a route. Since all actions on a route are identical for each courier, increasing the number of couriers directly increases the throughput of the route.

This setup results in a structure which might seem familiar to those of you who played games of the Anno series. We are big fans of the series ourselves and for us, the trading routes in Anno fit the way we wanted to connect work zones with each other very well.

We hope these changes will improve your experience with Good Company. As always, let us know what you think!

All the best,
your Chasing Carrots
