GORN 1.0: The Final Battle
To celebrate the launch of GORN 1.0, the game will be 25% off across all platforms.
It’s finally time for GORN to break out of Early Access. After two years, we’re ready to launch 1.0: THE FINAL BATTLE.
THANK YOU
Before we jump into new features, the Free Lives team want to say a massive THANK YOU to the GORN community who have supported us throughout this process. Your willingness to give input, to test builds, and to stick with us over the last two years has made GORN so much more special.
Here’s what you can expect from GORN 1.0: THE FINAL BATTLE.
FEATURES
A grand finale: Finally, you can face off against ALIMTA himself. Once you’ve beaten all of his champions, he has no choice but to stop you himself.
New weapon: An actual, literal hand cannon. Enjoy!
SteamVR 2.0 Input and Index Knuckle Support: You can now rebind the controls via Steam’s interface if you dislike our defaults. And while we don’t have finger tracking, the game now also supports the Index controllers.
New giant enemies
New bonus objectives for each trial
Fixes for all known bugs, including many performance improvement and visual updates
WHAT’S NEXT?
Once the launch dust settles, we’re going to be taking a short break to recover and flex our creative muscles. Though we are exiting Early Access, this won’t be the end for GORN. Our first priority will be to get the game to as many platforms as possible, and we already have plans for a small post-launch update.
KEEP IN TOUCH
The 1.0 launch is not the end of the road for GORN, so please keep sending us your feedback. To talk to other GORN fanatics, and to find out more about what Free Lives is doing next, join our Discord and follow us on social media.
We're making a small update today to fix some of the performance issues some people have been experiencing since the Odalbe update.
Unity have fixed a bug affecting VR games where performance would degrade over time if the game window does not have focus.
As far as we know, all performance issues should now be resolved for users, so please let us know if that's not the case for you.
Other fixes:
Fixed Royal Rumble not working in custom
Fix enemies stopping to spawn on endless in Great Arena
Fix pit player colliders not going away when pit covers come down in Deathpit
Improved loading times
Fixed throwing knives not unlocking
Currently known issues:
The "Missing hands" bug: This is due to LIV or other mixed reality apps interfering with GORN. You can fix this by deleting the externalcamera.cfg file from the GORN folder. More information on the issue here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/578620/discussions/0/3774483849436565892/
The "Black textures" bug: This is an issue with AMD graphics cards. To resolve this, please update your graphics driver.
The oculusnative build will come in a day or so, once we're sure there are no issues with this version.
We'd like to apologise for how long this has taken us to find and resolve, and give a special thanks to those in the community who have sent feedback to help us find these issues.
Odalbe update performance issues
Hello everyone!
We've been receiving a number of reports about performance issues affecting some people since the Odalbe update. While we've been unable to reproduce those issues on any of our test systems, we've investigated as much as we can and did another update now to try address those problems.
If you were having performance issues since the Odalbe update, can you please try the current version and let us know if the issue has been resolved for you?
Once we get confirmation we'll update the Oculus Native build as well.
GORN EARLY ACCESS FEBRUARY 2019: THE TEACHINGS OF ODALBE UPDATE
Heed the wisdom of the prisoner, gladiator. He was once as you are now.
Your favourite over-the-top VR game is back with an update of monumental proportions. As we fight our way closer to final launch, the Free Lives team are pouring blood and sweat into polishing existing content and improving the game experience for new players.
That said, there should be plenty of content here for GORN fanatics to sink their teeth into. Here are some of the major features you can expect from ‘The Teachings of ODALBE’:
CAMPAIGN
We’ve reworked the progression and unlock system of the game, which now feels a bit more complete. This hasn’t been finalized, so any feedback is highly appreciated!
THE DEATH PIT
Now, finally, you may do battle in the arena where it all started.
MORE FEATURES
We’ve updated our Unity engine to a more recent version, mostly for performance fixes.
Several weeks of optimization, including everything from sound to physics to rendering. For us, GORN is running much better than before, and this allows you to battle more enemies simultaneously.
New sound spatializer engine: This should allow you to better tell where sound is coming from, as well as fix some audio issue some have been having.
Several hundred new voice lines for the gladiators, as well as other character and AIimprovements (they now look around at interesting stuff, cool).
New VO for the emperor.
Polish to most existing bosses.
Reworked the Grapple Caestus.
Entirely new Cell environment, with many unlockables.
More narrative content than anyone could realistically have expected given the nature of the game.
One of the most unnecessarily complicated carved graffiti decal systems ever.
Improved seagulls.
DO YOU LIKE CONTENT?
If you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you may have missed BE KIROOD and superstarproducer Jaybooty’s new Rap EP, TAVUES ES ROKIBE. It’s available on all major platforms.

THANKS!
As always, a huge thanks to the community for the feedback and contributions that shape our development. Please keep sending us your suggestions, performance complaints and bug reports.
It's been quite a while since you've heard from us so we thought it's about time we give you guys an update - with some good and bad news.
First the bad news. Unfortunately GORN will not be getting an update this year.
The good news is that the next update is not too far away. This update is going to be a bit different than usual - we're restructuring a few of the systems in the game and adding some flavour to the world. The nature of this update means that it takes a fair bit more work to reach a point where we can get meaningful feedback from people, hence why this past update has been developed a bit more in secret than usual. If you are curious what it this update is all about, or would prefer some kind of video evidence that we are in fact still working on the game, we made a devlog for you!

We'd also just like to say a special thanks to everyone who supported us this year and who has contributed to making the development of GORN the awesome journey that it has. We have some cool surprises (including the much requested EP from BE KIROOD, TAVUES ES ROKIBE) coming up in 2019 so stay tuned!

GORN Crab Update
Are you ready for the terror of the Crustacean Crusader?
That's right - the latest GORN update has arrived with a new Champion known as "The Shellbeast"...or "BeupVuta" or, most creatively, "The Crab".
And just like the rest of the Champions, defeating The Crab gives you access to the brand new, skull-crushing, limb removing, Crab Claw Caestus.
We've also added new heavy armour for your enemies, revamped the arena and done the usual assortment of bug fixes and performance improvements.
To celebrate the update, we've released a new trailer featuring the beloved ROKIBE diss track, ‘KIROIM ES BEKI’ from recording artist BE KIROOD:
We’re starting off with an apology: we know it’s been a while since the last update - and this update is a bit smaller than usual.
Our team’s been away on Game Jam Island 2 and Pirate Jam , but since then we got back we’ve all been full force on GORN development again!
This update mostly brings cosmetic and performance improvements, as well as a few fixes.
CHANGELOG:
- New & improved blood
- New night time arena for Champion battles
- A new armor type for enemies
- A Katana
AND MORE!
- New title screen
- Rework to the cell for performance
- Combat scene performance improvements
- Fixes/improvements to two handed weapon handling (probably still WIP)
- A rework to how the mobility caestus work, hopefully making them more powerful and less finicky to use
- Several graphical tweaks & improvements to both arenas
As this update goes live, we’re already working on new content for you guys that’ll be coming at you in the next few months!
As always, a huge thanks to the community for all your feedback that shapes our development. Please keep sending us your suggestions, performance complaints and bug reports.
