Grizzland

v1.051 - Anti-Crash Hotfix

Dear Players,

It's time for a yet another community-inspired update! A few days ago, Sreok reported 2 issues with the Castle that should no longer be present in the game:

1) The gap you could fall through in the Castle is now filled with floor.
2) "Talking" to NPC_Demon should no longer crash the game.
___

3) On top of that, there was a specific bug that caused Grizzland to crash upon character's death on Level 5. It shouldn't happen anymore.

If you ever encounter a bug in Grizzland, please let me know about your experience in this forum section! :)

v1.05 - Easy life and better performance!

Dear players,

During the last couple of weeks, I have been working on a "finalizing touch" for Grizzland. I added some features that were suggested or inspired by our wonderful community to make this grizzled world a cozy place to be.

Some "hidden" functions are now available in the game itself (previously you could only access them by tweaking the game files):

- V-Sync and Text Speed were added to the game settings.
- You can now delete the save files and reset a speedrun from the "save file choosing screen" (inspired by question from Twix).
- The 2 hidden NPCs (you won't find them on the map) can now resurrect all the bosses and activate "invisible walls" mode. The latter will expire upon death.
- You no longer have to "stand on" the in-game Radio to listen to its music.
- Brightness was removed from settings (because it was dumb :D).
- Snow effect will last until player dies or enters the Castle.
- You can now change the localization files in Steam_Files_Folder > Grizzland and the results will be loaded into the game. However, I believe that the files will be replaced with each update, so please keep a copy of them somewhere if you decide to change something in them. :)

Miscellaneous:

- Prices in the shop are now shown in coins, not hearts. (Reported by UNICOY);
- You should no longer be able to hold the Jump button to generate infinite amounts of particles and annoying jump sounds if you're standing right under the wall/slope;
- The game's stability and performance should be much better now.
- Saving/Loading processes are now asynchronous and happen less often.
- If you had previously unlocked an achievement in offline mode and still haven't got it on Steam, you might lose this progress.
- Gamepad tooltips were added in a couple of new places.
- You can now see visited secret rooms in "Journal" - "Notes".
- Secret Magnet will only "show" secrets you haven't found and secret rooms you haven't visited.

Bug Fixes:

- A rare issue which caused players to waste money in the shop without getting the item should no longer appear;
- Self-destructing while your arrow is on the screen should no longer crash the game. (Reported by UNICOY);

Speedrun Related:

- Timer will now show "more accurate" time. It is now updating more often and the format has been changed to the proper "00:00" (instead of "00:0", for example).
- The special event/cutscene on level 5 should no longer be triggered in Speedrun mode.

I hope that you will enjoy the update! :)

v1.04 - Slovak, invisible walls mode and boss resurrection!

Dear Players,

A great comrade of mine, Tomáš Lichanec a.k.a. Toren, translated Grizzland to Slovak! I never expected this game to support such a diversity of languages and I am extremely thankful to him for his work.

Even though it turned out that Steam doesn't support Slovak yet (which was a huge disappointment, because I can't add store text and the achievement descriptions Toren made), all of you CZ/SK players can now enjoy the in-game translation from your compatriot.

I also added 2 secret commands (for true hackers! :D) for everyone who supported the project and dedicated some time to play Grizzland.

The first one is an option to respawn all of the bosses with one line (instead of having to search through an entire save file). The second one turns off (almost) all of the tiles in the game. See if you can beat Grizzland without seeing the walls! I, personally, had a ton of fun playing the game this way, it's like re-experiencing from a completely different perspective.

I also spent many hours trying to make custom palettes, but the way I made the game basically doesn't allow me to do this (at least, not with my brains, sorry).

To use the 2 aforementioned commands, press Win+R (open Run application), type "%appdata%" (wihtout quotes), find a folder AppData\Local\, open a "Config.ini" file and slap the following somewhere at the bottom of all the text in the document.

For "Invisible Wall" mode, the lines are:
[Tiles]
Hide="1"

Next, just switch rooms (menu, game, save files etc) in-game and the tiles will disappear. You can see a gif of how the game will look like without the walls here: Twitter Post

To reset the bosses, type:
[Config]
Reset_Bosses="1"

After (or before) that, open any save file (in the game) and wait for a few seconds. You will be killed and the bosses will be respawned (affects only the save file you are playing).

WARNING! It would be a good idea to copy your save files before doing anything with them, including typing the commands above. I am not sure what they may break.

Finally, many people who played with a controller were confused by "Hold (buttonName) to do something" strings in the game, which were designed for keyboard only. Thus, I added a small sign showing the corresponding gamepad controls for these occasions.

I hope that at least one person will find the update useful and fun to check out! If you are going to give it a try, you should know that all of the work, required to deliver updates to the game is done only because you're with me, dear player. :grizzland_heart:

v1.01 - Gamepad Stick movement, currency in Journal

Dear Players,

I've watched all of the videos about Grizzland and visited a couple of Streams. This update is only possible thanks to your feedback!

Change Log:

1. Everyone who played Grizzland using a gamepad suggested adding movement with the left stick. There you go, you can now move, shrink, enlarge and interact using it! (Text Skip is still on button up, though).
2. All the creators who completed the "bat quest" tried to look for the reward in their Journal. It wasn't there before, but now it is, along with other currencies in the game.
3. As suggested by dollppin, you can now see the main NPCs and Shops when you look at the Map.
4. I changed a few confusing places in the game.
5. Fixed a few minor bugs.

Videos and Streams I mentioned can be found here.

I hope that you will enjoy the update! :grizzland_heart:

Grizzland v1.00 is now out on Steam!

Dear Players,

It has been a long and exciting journey.
Grizzland passed Greenlight 2.5 years ago and I started making it over 3 years ago!

I am finally content with its quality. Meet Grizzland on Steam!

I sincerely hope that you will have a good time on this grizzled planet! :grizzland_heart:

Korean and Spanish join the Squad!

Dear Players,

The release had to be postponed so I thought "Hey, why not to add some more languages into the game?".

I have finally finished implementing all the translations into the game and, if nothing changes, Grizzland will be available in 7 languages: English, Russian, French, German, Portuguese (BR), Korean and Spanish (LA).

You can find all of the wonderful people who are working on Grizzland here :)

I hope that players who speak the corresponding languages will enjoy the translations! :grizzland_heart:

Yours forever,
