Feature Update - Input binding & Bug Fixes

This update includes basic input/key re-binding for the flight controls and some bug fixes.

  • Added - Input Rebinding: You can now access the 'Controls' UI from the main menu, or the pause menu and re-bind inputs to your liking.
  • Fixed - UI Cursor/Pointer: total re-design of the moue/gamepad UI pointer for in-game menus. It should now transition between mouse and gamepads smoothly and work properly with the inventory menu.
  • Fixed - Mission UI Lock: screen wasn't locking when accessing the mission radio wieldable and would sometimes prevent user from accessing other wieldables.

Sorry for the delay on this patch! I ran into several annoying issues while re-tooling the menus and trying to get everything working properly. Hopefully the next few patches will go more quickly as I'm going to focus on missions, points of interest, and some level content.

Update Notes - 9/29/22

This is the first pass at fixing and improving some of the input issues. More to come soon...

  • Fixed - Main Menu: Controllers Blocking Keyboard Access: main menu should now switch between input devices and keyboard to allow keyboard access
  • Added - New Flight Input System: completely replaced existing flight input system to allow for better device support and improved keyboard & mouse flying.
  • Added - Player flashlight/headlamp (toggle with L key, or left joystick button)
  • Added - Airplane landing and cockpit lights (toggle with L key or left joystick button)
  • Improved - New Airplane Braking: braking now uses a single button to apply both brakes (right and left wheels) and relies on rudder input for differential braking - e.g. if brakes are applied and right rudder is applied the right brake will engage.
  • Improved - airplane pitch trim system (including mouse wheel trim). Be sure to adjust trim during takeoff roll.

Next Up:

  • Input - More improvements to input and controller support including rebinding
  • Game Settings Menu
  • More Missions
  • Time and Weather Based Events
  • Trim position indicator

Fixing Controller Input Issues

Currently, the game plays well with a gamepad (e.g. xbox style controller) and keyboard is fine for the player control, but not for flying. If you don't want to play with a gamepad, you might want to wait for the next update before buying the game.

I'm in the process of totally re-working the input system to fix bugs, support more controllers, and potentially allow for re-binding. I will release a patch ASAP.
