Studio Update: "Absolution" Launches June 3

Greetings, Tyrians!

The final chapter of Guild Wars 2®: Janthir Wilds™ arrives on June 3 with "Absolution," a climactic update that plunges deep into the haunted heart of mursaat history. Journey into the ruins of Bava Nisos and uncover the truth behind the rift that still threatens Tyria.

Alongside this epic conclusion, "Absolution" also brings a new fractal, a legendary backpiece, homestead upgrades, a suite of quality-of-life changes, relics, goodies in the Wizard's Vault, and the debut of challenge mode for Convergence: Mount Balrior, along with a Twitch Drops event to celebrate the release. Let's take a look at what's coming next for Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds—"Absolution"

When Mabon fell to the Kryptis, an ancient ward cast over the city of Bava Nisos evaporated. All its secrets were free to fester—all its ghosts danced back to life.

At the start of Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds, the commander was sent on a mission of diplomacy to befriend the lowland kodan of the Janthir region. But just as we settled into the calming rituals of the delta lifestyle, a darker threat emerged from the shadows. Titans had somehow been released into Tyria once again, and the commander, with the aid of allies old and new, navigated the perilous reaches of Janthir to defeat these otherworldly creatures. Victory was just within reach, too, before Ura revealed with her dying breath that the door that she and her kin used to breach our realm remained wide open.

In the second update for Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds, "Repentance," we chased the echo of an old acquaintance through the ruins of his people's demise as we searched for this open Mists gate. Now, in the finale of Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds, we will reach the core of the titan crisis once and for all.

Bava Nisos

Each of the three survey teams that you helped comb through Mistburned Barrens completed their research and have come to the same conclusion: something vile awaits us within the depths of Bava Nisos. When a path into the city proper is finally revealed at the start of "Absolution," our final descent begins.

Once a monument to mursaat victory, Bava Nisos was built into the side of a great mountain—its sprawling halls and twisting passages branch in every direction. However, the once-opulent city is now crumbling with decay. When the Door of Komalie was opened and titans spilled out into Tyria, Bava Nisos was sieged by a bloody battle that took down one of Tyria's most powerful societies. Most of the living mursaat and attacking titans were slaughtered. But despite their defeat and the city's abandonment, menacing magic still lingers inside of Bava Nisos. Left alone for almost three hundred years, this magic has mutated and warped with time.

As the grand finale of the Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds experience, Bava Nisos contains a climactic map-wide meta-event. You'll be working alongside factions supporting the Tyrian Alliance—such as Councillor Ludo from Rata Sum and a spirited guest from Divinity's Reach's most elusive social club—to fight your way to the Mists gate at the city's heart. The meta contains three main lanes that players can participate in, where you'll face various obstacles and threats as you navigate the surreal landscape.

What could possibly await you inside?

New Challenges Await

The battle for Mount Balrior is about to get even more intense. In "Absolution," we're adding the third and final Convergences boss encounter as Ura, the titan imperatrix known as the Steamshrieker, at last makes her appearance. This godspawn commands the scalding steam and choking geysers of the mountain, making her unending wrath truly something to be feared. If you've fought Ura before, this encounter introduces some new mechanics to make this a fresh twist on the Mount Balrior experience!

And for those seeking an even greater test of skill, we're also introducing challenge mode for Mount Balrior Convergences, offering greater difficulty, sharper coordination checks, and even more rewarding spoils for those who triumph.

Our newest fractal dungeon, Kinfall, also arrives on June 3. Step into the roles of a small band of lowland kodan as they defend their homeland during the Icebrood invasion of northern Tyria…and as they hear the whispers of the legendary dragon Jormag. In response to player feedback, with Kinfall we've intentionally stepped back from the raid-like complexity of more recent fractals in favor of a streamlined and repeatable experience reminiscent of some of our earlier fractals. The challenge mode for Kinfall will release three weeks later, in our June 24 game update.

Home Improvement

In "Absolution," we're doubling the homestead decoration cap to 2,000, giving builders and dreamers the space they've been craving. Players can train the new Grandmaster Handiworker Crafting tier to increase the decoration limit by 500, and Deft Lahar will sell decoration limit increases to raise the cap by an additional 500. This release also introduces new decorations and adds two new resource nodes to Deft Lahar's inventory.

But we're not stopping at structural upgrades; we're elevating the vibes as well. On June 3, the Black Lion Trading Company will debut a brand-new customization option that lets you change the appearance of your homestead's sky. First up is a dazzling aurora borealis display that turns Hearth's Glow into a northern dreamscape. Later this year, you'll also be able to personalize the entrance to your homestead with skins for your conjured doorway.

Look forward to even more updates to homesteads in our next expansion later this year. Homesteads are beginning to rival fashion wars for the most expressive corner of Tyria!

Quality of Life

We've got a hefty round of quality-of-life updates coming your way in "Absolution." From the Wizard's Portal Tome to hold your collection of portal scrolls to the endlessly efficient Wizard's Gobbler, this update is full of small changes that make a big difference (and free up some much-needed inventory space)! We'll dive into all the details in a dedicated blog later this week. Stay tuned!

While "Absolution" marks the end of the Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds story arc, there's still plenty to look forward to in the months ahead while you await this summer's news of our next expansion.

Push PvP Game Mode Development Update and Beta Event

Greetings, Tyrians!

We're back with an update on Push, the fast-paced 5v5 PvP game mode first revealed alongside Guild Wars 2®: Janthir Wilds™. In Push, teams battle for control of a moving objective, working to escort it into the enemy base while fending off their opponents' efforts to do the same. It's a tug-of-war where map control, timing, and team coordination are the keys to victory. Push draws inspiration from "payload" or "escort" modes found in many other competitive games. If you missed the original announcement or want a refresher on how the mode came to be, check out our first Push blog from last year.

Back in September, we hosted the first live beta for Push, featuring a rough prototype of the mode's mechanics on a placeholder map. While the visuals and UI were in the early stages of development, the goal was to gauge community interest—and the response exceeded our expectations. Your enthusiasm and feedback gave us the confidence to move forward and invest in building Push into a fully realized game mode.

We've made some updates and will be running another live beta event beginning on Tuesday, May 20 at noon Pacific Time (UTC-7) and running until May 27 at noon Pacific Time (UTC-7). We're also running a PvP Rush bonus event at the same time, so you can collect some extra rewards while you help us test the Push mode!

Pushing Out Some Changes

We have some significant updates prepared for the next beta event that we'd like to share with you. First, we have a first iteration of the new map for the Push mode. We received a lot of positive feedback on the layout of the placeholder map from the initial beta, so we've done our best to maintain the general footprint of the old map in the new one—just with a fresh coat of paint and a new theme.

Just like in the first beta, the new map still has a good amount of "gray box" art, but we're comfortable with the broad layout and want to start getting feedback on more specifics. The Super Adventure Box's Angry Cloud will be taking a well-earned leave from the game mode, and in its place is a slick jade tech hovercart. This hovercraft objective will display a colored highlight indicating which team has control, for easy readability.

We've also made an update to the center secondary objective. During the first beta, this was a channeled objective that would prevent the enemy team from contesting the capture point for a period of time. The feedback around this objective was generally negative, as there wasn't any counterplay to the negative effect once it was applied. We do like the idea of the center objective creating pressure on the capture point for the enemy team, but we want to do it in a more interactive way.

For the upcoming beta, we'll be utilizing mechanics from the Skyhammer conquest map. When players successfully channel the center objective, three skyhammer cannon shots will fire on the capture point. These skyhammer shots can be dodged with proper timing, but failing to do so will result in massive damage and a knockdown effect. Internally, we've been playing with the new center objective mechanic, and it certainly feels like a step in the right direction, so we're excited to see what the community thinks about it.

The last main update for the next beta is a first-version implementation of what will eventually become the official scoreboard UI for the game mode. During the first beta, the map didn't do a great job of representing who was ahead, especially in close games. The new UI gives players an easy view of the current relative position of the capture point along its path in addition to displaying each team's best push as a percentage of the path traveled.

Looking for Feedback

During the beta event, the Push mode will replace the ranked queue with the same mini-season rewards. You'll also be able to access the Push mode in custom arena maps and, as we mentioned above, we have a PvP Rush event happening at the same time for extra incentive to get into the action!

Whether it's your first look at Push or you're a battle-scarred veteran, we want to hear from you. Head over to our Push feedback forum thread and let us know what you think. We're specifically interested in feedback regarding the changes we've made, but we'd love broader feedback on the Push game mode in general as well. Our goal throughout this beta process is to keep the community involved to make sure that we're making the best possible version of Push that we can.

We'll see you in the Mists!

Celebrating 20 Years of Guild Wars

Twenty years ago this month, ArenaNet launched the first Guild Wars® campaign, which would eventually be called Prophecies™. Since then, it's been our real joy to welcome many millions of players from all over the world to Tyria—first in the original Guild Wars, and more recently here in Guild Wars 2®.

We're excited to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Guild Wars universe this month. Guild Wars retrospective items are back in the Guild Wars 2 Gem Store, the Anniversary Celebration festival kicks off in the original Guild Wars today with new and newly available items, and there's a sale on Guild Wars game editions.

Guild Wars Homage Items Return in Guild Wars 2

Select Guild Wars retrospective items are returning to the Guild Wars 2 Gem Store at a 20% discount! Pick up classic looks like Gwen's Attire or the Primeval Dervish Outfit and weapon skins like the Storm Bow Skin, Bone Dragon Staff Skin, and Peacock Scepter Skin. These items will be available until April 29.

In addition to the cosmetics available from the Black Lion Trading Company, remember that a number of craftable and earnable weapons based on the original Guild Wars are always available, like the Destroyer and Tengu weapon sets, unique weapons like Fellblade and Razorstone, and of course the iconic Sunspear (as both a staff and a spear)—just to name a few!

Updated Rewards in Guild Wars

An update today makes rewards newly available in the original Guild Wars. Specifically, many items that were previously available only as promotional exclusives have been reissued. Promotional weapons—including those from preorders, like the iconic Sunspear, and regional launches—have been made into rare-quality drops from high-level enemies in the world. A selection of previously limited-release minis can also now be acquired in nontradeable form by completing quests for Merrise, Sworn to Seas in Embark Beach.

We're also excited to announce that new weapon upgrades for main-hand weapons have been added to the game as rare drops. These "of the [Profession]" modifiers will boost the level of the named profession's primary attribute to as much as 5 (unless you already have a higher value), even if you wouldn't normally have access to that attribute. The modifiers will also display glowing particle effects in their profession's associated color on any weapon they're applied to.

While the ancient anniversary weaponsmith is visiting Embark Beach for the anniversary celebration, you can find unique weapons featuring the reissued weapon skins and the new suffix upgrades.

You can read more details about today's game update on the Guild Wars wiki.

Super Adventure Festival 2025 Is Now Live

Springtime in Tyria means one thing: it's time for Guild Wars 2's most pixelated party, the Super Adventure Festival! Moto has once again opened the doors to his virtual world, inviting players to jump, battle, and collect a treasure trove of new and returning rewards. We also have a new mini event called Ooze Kitchen Endeavors that is perfect for players who are new to the festival! Read on for a quick rundown of the activities you can participate in during this festival and the rewards you can earn.

This yearly festival is now live and will be available until May 6. You can check out all the details in the full release notes on our official forums.

Where to Go

The Super Adventure Festival is located in Rata Sum. Check your in-game mail for an Invitation to the Super Adventure Festival and double-click the item to teleport instantly to the Super Adventure Box Hub. You can also travel to the Magustan Court Waypoint, which is conveniently located right next to the Super Adventure Box in Creator's Commons.

Epic Rewards Await

This year's festival is packed with rewards, offering both classic and brand-new items for dedicated adventurers. The Powered Boots, a stylish addition to any virtual hero's wardrobe, can be earned by completing the festival's meta-achievement: (Annual) Super Adventure Box Nostalgia. For those looking to expand their arsenal, the Retro-Forged Torch, Retro-Forged Axe, and Retro-Forged Trident are available from Sparking Stone, a Super Adventure Festival weapon vendor.

If you're looking to wield the power of unbridled joy, the Super Rainbow Cloud weapon set is here to light up your battles! These weapons are straight out of an 8-bit dream, with chunky, retro designs and a rainbow glow that shifts and shimmers like a classic arcade fever dream. Who needs stealth when you can blind your enemies with pure prismatic power!

Collectors and completionists won't want to miss the chance to earn the Mini Super Yellow Ooze, awarded for completing the Super Ooze Baker achievement. Adding to the festival's creative flair, eight new guild hall and homestead decorations are now available, all inspired by the Super Adventure Box aesthetic. From the Super Pagoda Arch to the Super Pagoda Roof, players can now design their own virtual worlds with unique structures like pagoda doors, floors, ponds, and walls. It's the perfect way to bring some of SAB's charm into your guild hall or homestead instance.

Introducing the Ooze Kitchen Endeavors

Moto is known for his experimental creations, and this year, he's unveiling a brand-new mini challenge: the Ooze Kitchen Endeavors. Players are invited to test this new content, accessible through remote portals found in the starting zones: Queensdale, Metrica Province, Plains of Ashford, Wayfarer Foothills, and Caledon Forest.

Adventurers who step through these portals will find themselves in the Ooze Kitchen, where they must battle waves of aggressive oozes to gather ooze dough. The goal? Bake the ultimate dessert monster, the Great Yellow Cake Ooze, and then defeat it before it devours you!

Those who prove themselves as Super Ooze bakers can earn the Mini Super Yellow Ooze, and if you're new to the Super Adventure Box, you can get early unlocks of the mini bomb and slingshot skills, which will help you on your virtual adventure. And of course, there are baubles to be won, making this a great way to stock up on currency for other festival goodies.

The best part? Anyone can participate. The Ooze Kitchen Endeavors is open to all players, even those just starting out, thanks to its easy access from starting zones.

Step into the Super Adventure Box!

Once you enter the Super Adventure Box, your usual skills take a back seat, replaced by a new set designed specifically for this retro-inspired challenge. While inside, you won't take fall damage, but you also can't use mounts or gliders—though you'll find yourself much springier than usual!

The adventure spans two fully playable worlds, each packed with enemies, puzzles, and secrets. You can tailor your experience with different gameplay modes: Exploration Mode, which offers helpful guidance for those who prefer a more relaxed journey, and Tribulation Mode, which cranks up the difficulty for thrill seekers who enjoy a punishing test of skill.

Your quest begins in World 1, where you embark on a mission to rescue Princess Miya. Armed with nothing but a humble stick, you'll need to fend off foes, hunt for hidden doors, and collect baubles—your key to purchasing better weapons and useful tools from in-world merchants. Some of these tools, like bombs, can even reveal secret areas filled with extra treasures.

Combat is simple yet strategic. Every hit you take costs you hearts, and losing them all will cost you a life. As long as you have lives left, you'll respawn at your last checkpoint. Run out of lives? No problem! Just grab a Continue Coin from Moto and keep going!

Log in and experience the game within the game as the Super Adventure Festival is around until May 6. Happy adventuring!
