Assist Mode

Assist Mode


Most important thing to note here is **Assist Mode**. For those that cannot enjoy the game in the intended challenge, but still wish to experience what the game has to offer. Achievements can still be earned on this mode. Albeit, this can still be a difficult task. But leaderboards will not populate with runs completed while Assist Mode is active.

  • Assist Mode added in the Extra section in the Options menu

    • Enemy bullets do no damage
    • Sword hitbox size increased
    • Permanent fast-dash
    • Unlimited air-dashes
    • No bullet spread
    • While Assist Mode is active, achievements still activate, but times cannot be submitted to the leaderboard

General



  • Sum of Best and Single Segment times can now be viewed from the "level stats" menu (both standard and gild)
  • Game time is now visible on the World Timer when beginning on World 1, level 1

    • Game time is reset upon returning to the title screen

  • Splits now properly track single segments differently from segmented
  • Player bullets now spawn angled in the direction of flight
  • Can now use scroll wheel to adjust some items in the editor
  • Edge enemy range now matches its warning indicator
  • Edge enemy maximum range reduced by 1 block (32 pixels)
  • UI improvements to leaderboards
  • Implemented more visually random and dynamic explosion animations and sprites

Levels



  • Freestform rebalanced with easier pylon placement (still difficult)
  • Aztec adjusted slightly for new-player experience (should not effect speedrun routes)

Bug Fixes



  • Bug where items could not be unsubsribed from the Workshop is now fixed
  • Bug with heavy enemy firing faster than expected has been fixed
  • Bug with edge enemy getting stuck in one spot should be fixed (keeping watch on it)
  • Crash bug from pressing "p" on editor now fixed

GunnRunner Major Update - GrandRunner and Workshop

This update rounds out GrandRunner with 20 levels. Meaning we have reached our 120 level goal. Good luck running and chasing those records!

Also checkout the new section in the settings called "Extra"; a few items for accessibility and speedrunners. World and full game times will now be saved locally.

Workshop integration has been finalized through the level editor! You can create content and upload it straight to the Steam Workshop through GunnRunner. Share your levels with the world!

Onto finishing out the Guardians for each world. For those that signed up for the raffle during PAX EAST 2023, stay tuned!

Player
  • Legs now appear red while unable to dash
  • Legs now appear blue when Astro can fast dash
  • Holding up or down will now pan the screen
Objects
  • Blockers can now be continually shot and kept in hold state
  • Blocker hitbox size slightly increased for better shot accuracy
  • Toggle doors now only take 2 hits to phase out
Shell/UI
  • Workshop integration for Level Editor
    • Upload/Update content from the Load Menu
  • End card on levels will now display nearest scores on leaderboard
  • Made the world gates appear a clearer red color when Guardian can be challenged
  • Standard times and gild times are now differentiated (toggled in level select screens)
  • World time will now be saved when completing a run from level 1, to 20 on a World
  • Game time will now be saved when completing a run from World 1, Level 1, to World 6, Level 20
  • New section in the settings menu called "Extra"
    • Save slots (10 slots that can be deleted)

  • "Frost" tile set improved to be less "pillow-shaded"
    • Meaning, the tile edges should now be less noticeable

Guardians
  • Fixed a crash in "Flashbox" when blocks got too close to each other
Enemies
  • Edge and Basic Enemies both take less hits to destroy
  • Improved spawn location of Heavy enemy bullet pattern and fixed bug causing them to sometimes bridge gaps
  • Fixed an issue where players would sword-destroy an enemy, but still get knocked out
  • Heavy enemy shoot animation can be cancelled now like the deploy animation
    • Additionally, all animations can now be cancelled if the player is far enough away or this enemy leaves the screen
Levels
  • Removed stuck spots on "Brief Stay"
  • "Freestform" updated to have pylons and finalized version
  • Three levels added to GrandRunner: "Exactness Evaluation", "Bullets Runneth Over", and "Falling Action"
  • Fixed bug where player can traverse levels that were not yet unlocked

v 9.7.5 Patch Notes

Quick patch before PAX to improve tutorial levels for beginner players. And achievements for defeating guardians will now pop upon entering the gate.

This update is the doorstep release for GunnRunner out of Early Access. There is still work to be done though! Completion on the 3 world bosses for Expert, Master, and Grand Runner are under way. And we still need some final touches on levels in the Grand Runner world. As well as a few odds and ends here and there (more to come on that).Important to note that we will be moving officially into season 01 leaderboard, so progress for levels will be reset. Do not worry about old scores! If you played and submitted scores during season 00, they will be viewable from within Gunn Runner (if the time was good enough).

GunnRunner Lighting and Performance

GunnRunner now has sick lighting! Had some great feedback over the weekend, so time was spent on making the game aesthetically more appealing. And I believe I have done just that. Enjoy the nice visuals. And if they do not please you, it can be easily toggled in the settings menu.

Balance changes were also made to the Novice and Competent bosses. Work is still being done on the rest of the world bosses.

Numerous changes to levels across Novice to Expert. As well as additional levels added into GrandRunner (good luck).

Huge Update! Challenging bosses, crisp sounds, and much more!

This update includes a plethora of sound effects added to the game. As well as three challenging bosses added to the first three worlds. Check details below, but the gist of the update is right there. Enjoying battling your way through these large enemies.

Player

  • Delay added to gun recharge to prevent fast tapping shoot button
  • Slightly increased coyote time on all movement mechanics
  • Added edge leeway to dashing under ceilings

Objects

  • Blocker and Toggle-Door now stop Edge Enemy laser shot
  • Shifter slides faster
  • Phased-Out toggle door recharges faster

  • Level Times menu renamed to "Level Stats"
