Half-Life 2 Updated

Half-Life 2 (including Lost Coast, Episode 1, Episode 2, and Half-Life: Source) has been updated. This includes all the changes in the Beta since November 2013.

The following changes are included:

  • Improved readability of the UI in VR
  • Removed the IPD calibration tool. TF2 will now obey the Oculus configuration file. Use the Oculus calibration tool in your SDK or install and run "OpenVR" under Tools in Steam to calibrate your IPD.
  • Added dropdown to enable VR mode in the Video options. Removed the -vr command line option.
  • Added the ability to switch in and out of VR mode without quitting the game
  • By default VR mode will run full screen. To switch back to a borderless window set the vr_force_windowed convar.
  • Added support for VR mode on Linux
  • Added VR support to Half-Life: Source
  • Fix for an issue some players were seeing for the second train in Route Kanal getting stuck and blocking forward progress.

Half-Life 2 Beta Updated

The Beta version of Half-Life 2 has been updated. This update includes a fix some players were seeing for the second train in Route Kanal getting stuck and blocking forward progress. Episode 1, Episode 2, Lost Coast, and Half-Life: Source betas have also been updated because of the code they share with Half-Life 2.

Half-Life 2 Beta Updated

The Half-Life 2 Beta has been updated to include support for launching directly into VR mode when started from VR mode in Steam. This includes Episode 1, Episode 2, Lost Coast, and Half-Life: Source.

Half-Life 2 Beta Updated

Updated the beta to fix a bug that could cause Steam to fail to update game binaries for Episode 1, Episode 2, Lost Coast, and Half-Life: Source. After this update it is possible that one or more of these games will fail to start with the message "Unable to load library client." If this happens to you, just run the game again and the problem will correct itself.

Half-Life 2 Beta Updated

The beta for Half-Life 2 (including Lost Coast, Episode 1, Episode 2, and Half-Life: Source) has been updated with VR bug fixes.

The following Virtual Reality-related changes are included:

  • Support has been fixed for resolutions other than 1280x800
  • Support has been fixed for cloning the main display (instead of using the Rift as an extended display)
  • Sharpness of the VR output has been significantly improved
  • Head-and-neck model has been fixed. It was often moving the camera along axes that should have been unchanged, such as moving the camera forward and backward when it rolled from side to side

Half-Life 2 Beta Updated

The beta for Half-Life 2 (including Lost Coast, Episode 1, Episode 2, and Half-Life: Source) has been updated with enhanced VR support. To opt-in to these changes open the Properties for Half-Life 2, click on the Betas tab and pick Beta from the dropdown (in a few cases this is labelled SteamPipe beta.)

We have released an update to Half-Life 2. This update contains the fixes from the current beta. Changes for this update are:

  • Added support for Half-Life:Source
  • Improved threaded performance on Linux and Mac OS X

Half-Life 2 Beta updated

We have started a new Beta for Half-Life 2 and associated games.

To access this beta go to the Properties page for each Half-Life 2 game you want to try and use the Beta tab to opt-in. To opt-out use the same tab.

Changes in this update are:

  • Fixed slow game movement when sv_alternateticks is enabled
  • Fixed bad damage indicators if you changed resolution while playing
  • Fix exploding glass effect in the Episode 1 introduction to be correctly HDR enabled
  • Assorted SDK tool fixes

We have released an update to Half-Life 2. This update contains the fixes from the current beta. Changes for this update are:


  • Added missing set_sdk_env.bat file for the Source SDK
  • Updated localization in all languages with improved strings suggested by the community
  • Added dmxconvert and maya plugins to help when using the Source SDK
  • Fixed bad material type on the boards at the end of d1_canals_01a
  • Fixed missing dxsupport configuration files, causing some users to default to lower quality graphics on higher end video cards by mistake
  • Fixed Vortigaunt model being incorrect if you started directly on ep2_outland_04
