v1.6 - Input and new update~!
Hello everyone~! Wolfgang Wozniak from Poppy Works here, we are now the global publisher for Halloween Forever, including on Steam~! We wanted to update the game to support new languages as well as improve stability. This update makes it easier for us to add new languages at any time, and improves overall game stability. We ran this update with the Imaginary Monster Discord community in a beta program and did not come across any issues.

Various bug fixes
Removed
Button remapping (This will come back at a later date. Please use Steam Big Picture to remap your controls for now)
We removed the previous button remapping system as it was a little unstable and unpredictable. We've also implemented our own input system into the game. Button remapping will return very soon, as we are in development on a new system that we can use across all of our GMS projects, such as this one. We've also reworked the entire saving and loading system, but made sure to give Steam players who have unlocked the Achievements on Steam before a way to ensure that the characters they've unlocked will be retained in this new update. The new saving and loading system is more stable, and is compliant with console systems, and should improve stability on lower-end PC systems. This update will be available on Mac OSX later this week.
We hope that you enjoy our new work, and if you have any issues, please be sure to post them in the Steam Community. We will be monitoring it for any issues this new update has created.
Thank you very much and Happy Halloween Forever~!
Halloween Forever v1.201 now live
Hey everybody,
If you've been wondering what those ungettable new achievements were about, now you can know! There's a new Halloween Forever update ready. New characters and achievements are the big addition this time around. I hope you enjoy discovering them and the few new secrets in store.
Halloween Forever v. 1.201 build notes
Recent noteworthy stuff:
- Menus should be more friendly to navigate with redundant keyboard inputs. WASD is still a little bit funky (sorry!) but you can use the arrow keys, enter, and escape dependably from first boot.
- Keyboard remapping has a short buffer to help make remapping those keys a little easier.
- Friendly Continues mode added
- 3 new characters and related achievements.
- Title screen freshen up. Some new art in places.
- Door glitch is gone
We've been testing this one out for a while but if you find any issues please let me know and I'll get to fixing them as soon as I can. Thanks everybody. Halloween is coming soon!
Happy birthday Halloween Forever! v. 1.105 now live
Nearly a year ago today Halloween Forever crawled it's way out of Early Access and onto Steam. I'm happy to share a new update today that I hope addresses some issues that have come up over the past few months and makes the overall quality of the game experience better. Some notes about what's new:
- Added some substantially overhauled gamepad and keyboard manager (thank you Jakylgamer). No more gamepad shutting off keyboard inputs, game crashes on gamepad unplugging, and overall broader gamepad support. I've been able to test using an xbox 360, gravis gamepad pro, and ibuffalo snes/sfc format usb controller and they each work. Please take a look at the Control Config menu too so you can map the attack and jump buttons to your preference. Because of how Gamemaker interprets different manufacturer gamepads, the ABXY (or similar) buttons may appear ordered differently. These are mappable though.
- Added a 99 Lives toggle in the Config menu. Achievements are disabled while this is enabled. 99 Lives must be set per run and doesn't save on game restarts. I wanted it to be a manual opt in per run so people don't accidentally miss an achievement, but if it seems important to save this setting I can change it.
- Keyboard and gamepad can navigate menus! You might have noticed the severed Pumpkin Man hand hovering in menus. Mouse clicks still work if you don't wish to use the button controls.
- Config has a Fullscreen toggle! This doesn't require restarting the game.
No new content this time around but soon or after Halloween I'm aiming to add a few new playable characters. A playable Chainsaw Maniac and Grizzledude at least. Also maybe keep an eye out for some easter eggs that may tease some interesting things about the new game I'm working on, Abyxsis!
Thanks again everyone. I'll be keeping an eye on the forums if issues arise. Wishing some of these features could have come sooner but also they'll be ready from day 1 in future games I make, so better late than never : ]

Tiny Update: v. 1.104 simultaneous gamepad + keyboard, and Trading Cards!
Hey folks. There's a small update to the build today fixing an old issue preventing keyboard controls from working if you have a gamepad / controller plugged in. There have been some issues with some users having multiple controllers plugged in or partially supported controllers plugged in not being able to play the game at all since keyboard controls would be trying to map to the gamepad. Now both can work at the same time, gamepad AND keyboard. This should help people from getting locked out from playing the game at all if their device setup is unique or extensive. Lock up your cats! Also if you find some epic speedrun strats that involve gamepad and keyboard at the same time, be my guest.
This is the beginning of hopefully better input support and ux with Halloween Forever (and future games). This seemed like the lowest hanging fruit for something I could take care of in an evening. More to come.
In other news,
Trading Cards are live!
Better late than never! I kept the card set to 5 so it would be easier to collect them. Also I found another use for the Halloween Forever minicomic artwork I made almost a year ago. Anyway, enjoy them! Happy collecting, selling, and trading : ]
Tiny Update: v. 1.103 final boss crashing fix
Tiny update! I fixed the game crashing issue that happened right after beating the final boss.
Holiday Update: Santa Pumpkin! v.1.102
Happy Holidays from Halloween Forever!
As a little Christmas gift you can play as Santa Pumpkin (unlocked by default). Also the beginnings of some new game menu organization is in with room for new features. Stuff like full screen toggle is yet to come but there's room to have it in now.
Door-hit-fall-through-the-world glitching should be fixed now too.
There might be some gamepad control issues happening with the new update that I haven't had a chance to pinpoint yet (one tester reported having jump and fire being switched but controls worked the same for me). If you see this too feel free to let me know and I'll start looking into it.
The Grizzledude sprite is a tease for now (he isn't in yet...this was the only Santa Pumpkin image I have and I'm posting this from my phone!) but I do want to add him soon. Adding characters is fun and measurable task right now. Expect some more updates like this and some of those long discussed quality of life features in early 2017.
Thanks folks! Happy Holidays! See ya in 2017 🌝
Updated Halloween Forever soundtrack available at bclikesyou.bandcamp.com, other updates
Last night (Halloween!) I was able to catch some of SkinnedTeen's broadcast on Twitch playing some HF too. https://www.twitch.tv/skinnedteen/v/98308397 It was extra nice since SkinnedTeen played the old demo version months ago and I was able to hang out in the chat for a bit talking about things. Seeing her pick it up again and getting to talk once more felt like a nice full circle moment.
Back to work!
Thursday night I'm aiming to jump back in to some Halloween Forever feedback. I'd really like to seek a resolution with the Blue Devil hug forever glitch. There's a couple other small things we can start chipping away at. Maybe I'll do some more concept stuff for game 2 while we're at it. Going to be streaming that over at http://twitch.tv/imaginarymonsters Thus begins the slow yet steady productivity march once again. Don't be a stranger! Thanks everybody. Hope you had an awesome Halloween!!! : ]
