33.6.2 Patch Notes

Patch 33.6.2 launches today with a variety of updates for Battlegrounds, including the return of Anomalies and balance changes to Heroes, Buddies, and more.

Battlegrounds Updates

Dev Comment: Well met!

We’re overall quite pleased with the initial reception to the midseason shakeup. This patch’s minion adjustments primarily focus on nerfing Quilboar while buffing Beasts, Undead, and Elementals. We also made several changes to various Buddies and Heroes based on early performance data to bring them more in line with each other.

This patch also brings Anomalies back to the game! There are six brand-new Anomalies that interact with the Buddy system in different ways. In addition to these, we’ve curated 20 returning Anomalies to rejoin the pool. One Anomaly not returning this time is Secrets of Norgannon (also known as “The Tier 7 Anomaly”). We’ve chosen to hold it back until we’ve had a chance to adjust the Tier 7 minion pool.

This patch introduces a significant rule change to Anomaly appearance rates: after you play with an Anomaly, it won’t appear again for at least three games. This should help you experience a wider variety of Anomalies and keep each game feeling fresh.

We don’t expect to make further gameplay adjustments until sometime after Across the Timeways launches, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the meta in the meantime. We hope you enjoy these updates and we’ll see you in the Tavern!

Anomalies Return

Anomalies are back in Battlegrounds! Anomalies are tavern-transforming effects that apply to all players from the start of each game.

New Anomalies

  • Summoning Pact: After you upgrade the Tavern, reduce the cost of your next Buddy by (2).
  • Spirit of Friendship: After you press your Buddy Button, also Discover a Buddy.
  • Third Nature: You can press your Buddy Button a 3rd time for a Golden Buddy. It costs half.

  • Partner in Crime: You have no Buddy Button. On turn 4, choose a Quest to get your Golden Buddy.
  • Amicable Amendment: The Cost of your Buddy Button is 50% higher, but reduces by (1) after you buy a card.

Battlegrounds Updates

Dev Comment: This midseason update is a huge one! With so much packed into this patch, we wanted to take a moment to walk through the changes and share some insight into our design goals.

First, Hero changes! This patch includes over 25 updates to existing Heroes. Our goal is to make more Heroes feel engaging to play, so Hero selection becomes a more interesting decision. These changes were guided primarily by player feedback. Thank you to everyone who shared thoughts on which Heroes could use a boost.

Next, the return of Buddies! One common critique of Buddies was that many designs felt stale after being unchanged for so long. In addition to introducing 10 brand-new Buddies, we’ve redesigned or adjusted nearly 40 existing ones. Combined with the Hero changes, these updates should open up fresh strategies and give players new reasons to revisit old favorites.

Finally, anomalies are coming back soon! We’ve made a few adjustments based on what we learned last season when they appeared alongside Trinkets. To start, they’ll come back shortly after launch to give players time to get familiar with the new Heroes and Buddies. The pool of returning Anomalies has been refreshed to include more fan favorites, adding a bit more chaos to the mode. We’re also introducing six new Anomalies that directly affect how the Buddy system works.

We'll be keeping a close eye on how all of these changes play out and will make additional adjustments as needed. We hope you all enjoy the new update and we'll see you in the Tavern!

Buddies Return

Buddies are back in Battlegrounds! Buddies are powerful minions that come paired with each Hero. Anomalies are also set to make their return in an upcoming update, so stay tuned for more details on that. As of Patch 33.6, Quests are leaving the Tavern.

33.4.2 Patch Notes

Patch 33.4.2 launches today with updates for Hearthstone and Battlegrounds, as well as a few bug fixes.

Hearthstone Updates

Dev Comment: We’d like to share an update on the current state of Hearthstone and what to expect from this patch.

The data shows a relatively balanced meta, with no dominant power outliers or play patterns demanding nerfs. At the same time, the Day of Rebirth Mini-Set didn’t land as we hoped. This patch focuses on targeted buffs to help a few of those cards better realize their potential. Some of these changes support Quest decks, while also opening up new options across other archetypes (more details below).

We understand that many of you were hoping for bigger changes. We've seen a lot of feedback about the strong neutral package of Fyrakk, Elise, Naralex, and Ysera, and we'll be keeping a close eye on them moving forward. We've also continued to hear suggestions to buff nearly every new Quest so they become competitive archetypes. However, as we've shared before, too many competitive Quests in the long term can lead to a metagame that isn't fun or healthy.

More broadly, we believe future expansions are a better place to bring community feedback to life than trying to overhaul the current set through balance patches. We fell short of our goal of introducing enough new competitive options this expansion. As we look ahead to the next expansion and beyond, we're keeping your response to this set in mind and are using it to help shape the future of Hearthstone.

Card Changes

Khelos (From Egg of Khelos)

  • New: Khelos now has Taunt.
  • Dev Comment: We’ve seen a lot of experimentation with Khelos, often in combination with Dissolving Ooze. We want to preserve that synergy while also giving Khelos a stronger standalone presence by adding Taunt.

Mirrex, the Crystalline

  • Old: While in your hand, this is a 3/3 copy of the last minion your opponent played.
  • New: While in your hand, this is a 3/4 copy of the last minion your opponent played.

Posessed Animancer

  • Old: [6 mana]
  • New: [5 mana]
  • Dev Comment: We’ve seen players tapping into the potential of Possessed Animancer, and we’re making it more efficient to use. Alongside that, we’re also improving one of its favorite partners, Asphyxiodon. We wouldn't be giga sore if you tried using it with another Beast, either.

Asphyxiodon

  • Old: 6/10
  • New: 6/12

Ritual of Life

  • Old: Discover a 3-Cost minion. Summon a 2/2 copy of it.
  • New: Discover a 3-Cost minion. Summon a 2/3 copy of it.

Ankylodon

  • Old: [8 mana] 7/7
  • New: [6 mana] 7/5
  • Dev Comment: Upgrading Ankylodon gives Hunter a powerful Discover option through effects like Detailed Notes, while also making it a solid Beast for Quest Hunter and other Hunter decks.

Longneck Egg

  • Old: Deathrattle: Summon a 1/2 Beast. Give your minions +1/+1.
  • New: Deathrattle: Summon a 3/3 Beast. Give your minions +1/+1.

Costume Merchant

  • Old: 1/3
  • New: 2/4

Tortotem

  • Old: [2 mana] 0/4
  • New: [1 mana] 0/3
  • Dev Comment: We’ve found that players already complete the Shaman Quest fairly quickly, but we still wanted to give Tortotem a small boost. Lowering its cost helps it contribute to Quest completion while also enabling earlier minion generation to fuel the payoff once the Quest is complete.

Battlegrounds Updates

Dev Comment: We’re heading into the midseason update with one last round of balance changes, and we’re feeling good about how things are shaping up. Since its introduction at the start of Season 11, Rally has performed well and earned its place as an evergreen keyword. That said, future updates will likely dial back its overall prevalence in the game. We’ve also received great feedback on Quests as a system and are actively discussing potential adjustments if and when they return.

This update focuses on refining the meta to keep gameplay engaging and fun. Quilboar and Elementals have been scaled back to better align with the rest of the field, while Undead, Beasts, Dragons, Mechs, and Murlocs have received a boost to help them stand out more competitively.

We also fine-tuned Quest difficulty to make the experience more consistent and reduce the impact of “high roll” and “low roll” outcomes. To support that goal, Unlikely Duo now triggers on “buy” instead of “play,” and Cry for Help has been removed from the Quest pool. These changes, along with other targeted adjustments to individual Quests and Rewards, are intended to reduce variance and discourage holding cards going into Turn 4. Holding cards could give some players too much acceleration on the Quest turn, so this update should help ensure Quest difficulty feels consistently fair across the lobby.

We’ll continue monitoring the meta and making updates as needed. There are exciting things on the horizon for the midseason update, and we’re looking forward to sharing more soon. See you in the Tavern!

33.2.2 Patch Notes

Hearthstone balance changes, Battlegrounds updates, and some bug fixes go live today!

Hearthstone Updates

Dev Comment: Well met! We want to share a quick update covering two things: a small set of balance changes and the current status of Quests. The meta features a wide variety of decks across classes and strategies, balanced well against each other, so we’ve avoided major changes that could disrupt things ahead of the mini-set launch. Instead, we focused on a couple of play patterns that needed adjustment.

Amirdrassil has been the strongest card in Druid since its release, especially in Owlonius Druid where it fuels the OTK gameplan. This change slows it down and makes it riskier to keep in the mulligan.

Reserve Spot has been enabling explosive early turns in Handbuff Hunter, so we’ve made it a bit slower and more measured to reduce those blowouts.

We’ve been following community discussions around the power level of Quests and appreciate everyone who’s taken the time to share their thoughts. Our goal this expansion was to bring Quests closer to the level they reached in their first two appearances, rather than the overperformance seen with Questlines in United in Stormwind. For that reason, we’re not making further Quest buffs in this patch, but we’ll continue monitoring their power level following the mini-set.

Amirdrassil

  • Old: 4 mana.
  • New: 5 mana.

Reserved Spot

  • Old: 3 mana.
  • New: 4 mana.

The above disenchantable cards will be eligible for full dust refunds for two weeks following Patch 33.2.2.

Battlegrounds Updates

Dev Comment: This patch primarily targets the overperformance of cycling Elementals, Flotsam Flinger Murlocs, and spell-buffing Undead, while also rebalancing Stomping Stegodon Beasts. We're also buffing underperformers such as Goldrinn Beasts, Demons, and Quilboar that synergize with Blood Gems played from hand.

The adjustment to Stomping Stegodon (granting +2 Attack but no Health) is intended to reduce the comp’s snowballing potential when minions survive too long in combat, which can lead to frustrating play patterns (especially in Duos). To compensate for the now more fragile Stegodon builds, we’re bringing back P-0UL-TR0N to give the strategy more late-game potential.

We will continue to monitor the meta as it develops and make additional adjustments as needed. Thank you for all you feedback so far on the new season and we’ll see you in the Tavern!

Battlegrounds Updates

Dev Comment: Well met! Patch 33.0.3 marks our final major balance update of the season. While we’ve made targeted adjustments to individual Trinkets and Anomalies, the core focus this patch is on minion tuning. We’ve addressed standout cards like Shoalfin Mystic and Captain Sanders, aiming to bring them into healthier positions within the meta. At the same time, we’ve given a boost to underperformers such as Fauna Whisperer and Champion of Sargeras to make them more rewarding to play. We hope you’ve enjoyed this season and look forward to sharing what’s coming next very soon.

All of the new Quest cards from the Lost City of Un’Goro, as well as some returning Quests, will be draftable and come with five support cards in their Legendary Bucket.

Dev Comment: After listening to player feedback, we've updated the rewards for Underground Arena, with a focus on making it easier to earn back your entry costs through deep runs. By further streamlining the reward structure and reallocating some of the Crowd’s Favor, we were able to provide better gold and ticket payouts, bringing back more of that “infinite run” feeling that’s been a hallmark of the classic Arena experience. We’ll be monitoring how things play out and will continue to adjust as needed.

32.4.2 Patch Notes

Patch 32.4.2 brings the mid-season Battlegrounds updates, along with a new Legendary Quest, bug fixes, and balance changes for Standard and Wild!

New Legendary Quest Chain

We’re on the road to The Lost City of Un’Goro, where grand quests and glorious rewards await! Start your adventure early with a new Legendary Quest Chain. From the launch of Patch 32.4.2 until July 8, play Standard games to earn up to 3 The Lost City of Un’Goro packs, 1 Golden The Lost City of Un’Goro pack, and 1 Into the Emerald Dream pack!

Hearthstone Updates

Dev Comment: Standard currently offers a good variety of viable deck classes and archetypes, but there are a few outliers that we wanted to tone down as we prepare to step into The Lost City of Un’Goro. Just like with our other recent updates, these changes are mostly to make burst turns slower and clunkier, curbing both play experience and power outliers.

On the Wild side, even though we targeted Draka’s decks last patch, it has continued to create extreme play patterns. As such, we’re finishing the job with a concrete cap on Draka’s power.

Twisted Webweaver

  • Old: [1 mana] 1/3
  • New: [2 mana] 2/3

Crystal Cove

  • New: Battlecry: Equip a 1/3 Dagger. (+1 Attack for each other card you played this turn, up to 10!)

The above craftable cards will be eligible for a full dust refund for two weeks following Patch 32.4.2.

Battleground Updates

Dev Comment: Well-met! This season is slightly shorter than usual, so our mid-season shakeup looks a little different. For the first time ever in Battlegrounds, we’ll have two systems together: Trinkets and Anomalies! Quest: Head to the in-game Shop. Reward: Blob of Tar. Go to the in-game Shop and you will be able to claim two copies of the Lost City of Un’Goro Common card, Blob of Tar, for free! This sticky minion gums up the board for your opponents, giving you the time you need to finish them off.

* Available in the in-game Shop in Patch 32.4 and 33.0. After Patch 33.2, Blob of Tar will be granted upon opening a The Lost City of Un’Goro Pack.

In-Game Event: Secrets of Un’Goro

Mysterious runes can be found around Un’Goro Crater. From June 17 to July 8, crack the codes to complete event quests and earn event XP on the special rewards track. Complete the rewards track to get 2 Sharp-Eyed Lookout (Event Set Epic), 2 Golden Sharp-Eyed Lookout, 2 Dissolving Ooze (The Lost City of Un’Goro Rare), 2 Golden Dissolving Ooze, 4 The Lost City of Un’Goro Packs, and 2 Tavern Tickets.

"I know its name" means that the card text will update in-game to tell you what card it will draw. Use her to scout your deck! After Patch 33.2, Sharp-Eyed Lookout and Dissolving Ooze will be granted upon opening a The Lost City of Un’Goro Pack. Sharp-Eyed Lookout is planned to rotate out of Standard with The Lost City of Un’Goro.

Arena Revamp and New Season Now Live!

Arena is getting a big update in Patch 32.4! Arena is now split into two sub-Modes, The Arena and The Underground, each with their own Rating. The Arena is open for everyone, with shorter runs (up to 5 wins or 2 losses) and match pairing using both run record and player ratings. The Underground is unlocked after winning 7 games in The Arena (across any number of runs). The Underground is for hardcore Arena competitors, with unbounded matchmaking, runs up to 12 wins, and bigger prizes!

Drafting is also getting an update with new Legendary buckets in both The Arena and The Underground. Your initial Legendary pick will now be paired with a hand-crafted bunch of cards that synergize with it, so your pick can better guide the rest of your deck. And in The Underground, there’s a new Redraft on Loss feature where 5 more draft options are added to your pool so you can refine your deck and get back out there!

With this update, Arena is moving back to the main menu, once again swapping spots with Tavern Brawl. See our dedicated Arena Blog for more details, and log in now to get a free Tavern Ticket to try out these changes on us!

Battlegrounds Updates Coming Soon

Due to this expansion cycle’s modified patch schedule, the Battlegrounds mid-season update will come in Patch 32.4.2. At that point, Trinkets will remain in the Tavern and Anomalies will be added. Look out for the 32.4.2 Patch Notes, coming soon, for full details.

Collection Update: Signature and Diamond Cards

Several Signature cards that were previously unable to be disenchanted can now be disenchanted. Additionally, Signature/Diamond card availability and disenchanting rules have been simplified and streamlined going forward: now, if a Signature/Diamond card is sold directly in the Shop or obtained from packs, it is disenchantable; otherwise,* it is not.

* Such as Rewards Track cards, Achievement rewards, and the bonus Diamond card that is included in Golden Mini-Sets.

32.2.4 Patch Notes

Patch 32.2.4, launching later today, brings a few bug fixes and balance changes to Standard, Wild, and Battlegrounds!

Hearthstone Updates

Dev Comment: In this first balance change after the Embers of the World Tree Mini-Set, we’re addressing power and play experience outliers, both in the mini-set and in the cards before it. These changes are primarily aimed at reducing the speed and prevalence of single-turn blow outs. We’re also buffing some of the deck archetypes that we want you to re-explore.

On the Wild side, we’ve also made some bans and card changes. Our philosophy with Wild is still that we will step in less often, only to address particularly egregious play experience and balance outliers, but will make impactful changes when we do. Standard cards that are banned in Wild are expected to be unbanned and adjusted when they rotate out of Standard.

Battleground Updates

Dev Comment: Overall, we’re very pleased with how Trinkets and our last balance patch have been performing. For this patch, we wanted to take a bit more of a focused, lighter touch. We’ve made a few adjustments to Murlocs, Elementals, and Quilboar, as well as some specific stand-out cards like Land Lubber and Fire-forged Evoker. For Trinkets, we focused primarily on cost adjustments and curating which trinkets can be offered as “pivot” options. As always, we’ll continue to monitor the game and your feedback and make further adjustments as needed.
