I've been hard at work updating my indie horror game Hide Seek Survive with the awesome community feedback I've received since its launch on September 17th of last year. Travel through your oddly rectangular apartment and find a creepy doll 7 times to win. Something not of this world is also in the apartment though, and it's looking for you... Get it for 25% off this week only in honor of Steam Scream Fest and be completely terrified this Halloween season. THIS GAME WILL MAKE YOU JUMP OR YOUR MONEY BACK! (Feel free to return it if it doesn't meet your expectations. I won't contest any returns.)
One other note is to disregard negative reviews from the game's initial launch about performance issues. The game has since been rebuilt from the ground up and I haven't received any complaints about performance since that update went live. Happy Halloween everybody!
One Year Anniversary and Halloween Update!
Hey everyone,
I'm thrilled to release Hide Seek Survive's One Year Anniversary / Halloween update! I've received a ton of awesome feedback over the past few months and I've also come up with a few other ways to improve the experience:
-Drastically reduced file size. Went from 7 GB to 1.4 GB in this update. -Optimized codebase and default rendering settings to improve performance. On my setup I am getting roughly 150 FPS while I was getting 130 FPS in the previous build. All this with the game's overall look actually improving as far as I can tell... -Added smoothed framerate to provide a smoother experience on lower end systems. -Fixed resolution bug when people open the game for the first time. -Changed opening music and fixed a bug keeping it from playing in some instances. -Updated the way the tutorial UI for the doll works. The UI will now stay active until the player finds the doll the first time. From there it will stay active a few seconds each time the doll changes locations, disappearing after a set amount of time. -The doll's laugh now plays after Hide and Seek Steve is done talking. This change and the above change will make it much easier to determine where the doll is. -Significantly improved directional audio (horizontal) for the demon. Completely redid how this sound is played and the resulting system makes it much easier to tell if the demon is on your left or on your right. Please let me know if you think this is better than it was. I'll switch the doll to this method if so! -Made the demon UI flash faster for dramatic effect.
As you can see from the amount of adjustments made in this update, it is the largest we've had since the rerelease of the game this past February. I'm really proud of where the game is at, especially when I go back and look at some of the reviews people posted immediately after its launch. Those of you who have been here since then know what I mean...
Thank you to everyone for all your support and please keep posting reviews. I love seeing the positive ones starting to overwhelm the flurry of negatives I received at launch. Thanks for reading and enjoy the update!
Best,

Patch Notes Version 3.4 - Steam Survival Fest Update!
What's going on survivors! I've been working on this update for the last month and am really excited to bring these changes to my game. Shoutout to PoppiePlays, who gave me a ton of feedback in a YouTube video early this month that went into this update. I've implemented all of his feedback plus a few other things in the update as well. The changes are the following:
- Code cleanup which resulted in significant performance boosts. - Fixed bug causing Graphics Settings Menu to not work as intended. - Fixed bug causing Audio Settings Menu to not work as intended. - Troubleshooted and improved screen tearing that some users were experiencing. - Improved opening mechanism of the closets to be more responsive to the player. - Remade the credits menu to look better from a visual standpoint. - Added trigger warnings for flashing lights and loud noises to the main menu and steam page. - Made flashlight no longer flicker until the endgame. I've received some feedback that the flashlight flickering doesn't really add anything to the game as it stood before the update. In order to make it feel like it does add something, the flashlight now only flickers for the last 3 levels of the game, which really heightens the tension in the endgame. - Made flashlight dim as the player moves through the first few levels. Wanted the game to still somehow feel harder visually as you progress through the early levels even after the flicking change. I feel that this accomplishes the goal but we'll see if people like it. - Troubleshooted and improved directional audio. I've received some feedback that it's still hard to pinpoint where the demon and doll are using audio so I spent countless hours troubleshooting and improving how it works in game. It's at the point know where I can pretty much always figure out what room the demon / doll is in just by the in game audio. I'm hoping that other players of the game have a similar experience. I've also sped up the footsteps off the demon so you have a more constant stream of information as to where it is. - Added the Tutorial UI Feature which is essentially a visual representation of where the demon and doll are when they are moving across the map. This will inform new players that they should be paying attention to where the doll and demon are. It will also help people get used to the map and better pinpoint where the demon and doll are as they play. Note that this UI disappears in the endgame so you will have to rely on your listening skills to actually win the game!
I've worked really hard on this update and I hope that you all like it! This game has come so far since launch and I have all the awesome feedback from the community to thank for that. Enjoy the update and keep sending me your feedback!

Hide Seek Survive Version 3.3 - Recording Patch Fix
Hey everyone,
Hope you're all enjoying the game! I received some feedback a while ago from a streamer that when recording the game in game capture instead of screen capture, the menus were what was recorded and not the actual gameplay.
After some investigation, I made a fix in the code and this issue is gone as far as I can tell. Recording the game works as intended using OBS with Game or Screen capture.
Please continue reaching out and posting reviews as it is the best way to help this game keep improving. As always, thank you so much for playing!

Small Gameplay Patch (Hide Seek Survive Version 3.2)
Hey everyone,
Hope you’re all doing well out there! I’ve received a ton of great feedback over the past few weeks and felt like it was time to release an update for Hide Seek Survive where the following was changed:
• Added a note to the opening UI saying that headphones are recommended. Pinpointing where the demon is when playing on non-directional speakers is extremely difficult and I realize now that I didn’t explicitly recommend using headphones anywhere previously. • Changed the time before the phone automatically lowers in the pregame from 20 seconds to 60 seconds, with an option to raise it to up to 80 seconds in the gameplay settings menu. Especially when reading the text on the phone out loud (shoutout to all you streamers), 20 seconds just wasn’t enough time. A player got cut off before they were done reading in one gameplay video I saw which should never happen. • Reduced demon’s chance to check the closet by 50%. Although this can only happen in the endgame, I felt like it was happening a little too often. You are meant to feel safe in the closet, and I want the few times where the demon does come in to be rarer and more terrifying for the player. • Tweaked volume falloff settings for demon footsteps and doll laughing. I received some feedback that it was difficult to tell how far or how close the demon/ doll was during gameplay. After playing around with the falloff, I believe that it is now much easier to tell how far away both the demon and doll are with this change.
That’s everything that changed with version 3.2 of Hide Seek Survive. Stay tuned for more updates and please keep reaching out with your feedback. I check email, Twitter, and Reddit constantly so keep letting me know what else I should change. Thanks for playing everyone!

Small Patch to Make the Game Easier
Hey everyone! I have received some awesome feedback since putting out Hide Seek Survive 3.0 just a few days ago. It’s great to hear that people are enjoying the game, and I wanted to put out a patch implementing a few things that people have pointed out since release:
• The hallway is now bigger so that you can open any door and go right which wasn’t possible previously.
• The phone message in the beginning of the game is now able to be skipped by pressing any key. I am still keeping the timer functionality as well but opening up the time so the player has plenty of time to read the message.
• The volume of the Demon’s footsteps has been increased from 1 to 1.2 with a cap of 2 in the settings so that it will be easier to hear when he is further away.
• The volume of the Doll’s laughing has been increased from 1 to 1.6 so that it will be easier to hear when it is further away.
• The Demon’s volume attenuation falloff has been adjusted to a logarithmic curve. This is the recommended curve by Unreal for sounds where 3D positioning is important. It should be much easier to hear where the demon is now.
• The Doll’s volume attenuation falloff has been adjusted to a logarithmic curve just like the Demon’s. It should be much easier to hear where the Doll has moved to now.
This patch will make the game much easier to win and make it more approachable to new players. Please continue sending in your feedback via reviews or email. Thank you and have a great day!
Hide Seek Survive 3.0 - Completely Rebuilt from the Ground Up
Hey there!
Thank you for visiting Hide Seek Survive! When I originally put this game out in September of 2021 I was incredibly humbled by the awful reviews people posted of the game. After honestly looking at the product I put out, I realized that the reviews were right to be scathing. The game was pretty much unplayable and it deserved every bit of criticism it got.
In November, I released Hide Seek Survive 2.0, slightly improving the game to the point where it was now at least playable. With that being said it didn't gain much traction and after critically playtesting it, I agree with the community that it wasn't a fun game. As a developer I just wasn't proud of what I had put out there and the community agreed with me.
That all changes today with Hide Seek Survive 3.0. I have spent seemingly every waking second of the past 3+ months working on this update. I rebuilt the entire game from the ground up. The mechanics, strategy, even the menus are unrecognizable from the previous version. In addition, I have relentlessly playtested this game myself and with friends, making countless tweaks to the gameplay based on my findings.
The result of all this work is a product that I am truly proud to stand behind. If you played this game before and didn't like it, or see negative reviews posted before 2/24/22 and think that it isn't worth your time, I know that you should reconsider. As it stands today, Hide Seek Survive is easy to understand, fun, and thrilling all while being able to run smoothly on any PC I've tested it on, including my old laptop from 2011.
So give Hide Seek Survive a shot and please please please write a review. I will be closely monitoring them for suggested improvements to make in the next update. It would also be very encouraging to me to see that at least someone out there agrees this is something I should be proud of. Thank you and enjoy!

Minor Patch (Version 02.04)
Hey survivors,
After receiving additional feedback, I've made a few small changes to the game in order to make it easier to understand. I also fixed a bug that I noticed when watching some gameplay the other day:
-Fixed bug where mouse cursor would show even after exiting the pause menu. -Added text when game starts telling the player how to lower your phone and start the game without going to the pause menu. -Rewrote the strategy guide to make it easier to follow and made it the first option at the main menu. The goal with this move is to make it so that more people will read the strategy guide and learn how to play before starting the game.
Please continue providing feedback and I will continue to make updates towards the goal of making this game the best it can be. Thank you everyone!

Small Update to Make the Game a Little Easier!
What’s going on survivors! After watching some YouTube gameplay of people playing my game, I’ve made a few subtle but important tweaks to the game. It seems like the game is currently too hard, so I’ve made the following adjustments to make the game more winnable:
-Motion detectors now work in closets. It is a little confusing that the motion detectors say the demon isn’t in the room when they go into the closet so now, the motion detector will go off when the demon or player is anywhere in the room. As a bonus this change will make the game scarier. -Phone battery has been increased by 5%. In an attempt to encourage players to use the phone more, I’ve slightly increased the phone battery. -Reduced penalty for staying in the same closet for a long time. Now, the player can stay in the same closet for longer without the demon automatically knowing where they are. This will help players really work on the hide aspect of the game. -Reduced demon seeking speed by 33%. The demon was a little too fast moving from room to room, so I significantly reduced his speed. With that being said his speed when he does see you is still very fast.
Thank you so much for all your feedback on my game and please keep providing it. I’m determined to make this game the best it can possibly be and the best way to help me improve is by telling me what you like and don’t like. So, with that being said, I hope you enjoy the update!

Hide Seek Survive Version 2.0
I'm thrilled to present version 2 of my game Hide Seek Survive! If you had problems with the original don't you worry because I actually started from scratch and rebuilt the game from the ground up. The game is now played on a completely different map, and all of the characters perform significantly differently than the first version.
In terms of performance this version is well beyond the first. The file size is only 4.8 GB and I average 120 FPS on my 2060 NVIDIA Laptop Card. I'm very proud of this new version of the game and worked really, really hard to get this out in time for Halloween so I hope you enjoy!
As always please review and let me know what you think I should change and work on. I will continue updating this project throughout the coming months and would love to hear your feedback. Happy Halloween everybody!
