Furniture placement and food info update

The latest version of the demo is now up! Thanks again to everyone who have provided feedback on the demo, you're awesome!

Here are the latest changes based on your feedback:

  • Improved placement logic based on player feedback. The 'entry point' for the different furniture can now overlap, so you can place things a bit more tightly together.
  • The latte art and food creator now shows the latest missing food requests from the hipsters if there are any. The latte art will just show the latest requested coffees, while the food creator will show the missing food items.
  • Fixed a number of bugs with the latte art.

Better notifications, quality and bug fixes

The latest build of the demo is now up! Thanks again to everyone who have provided feedback on the demo so far! It's really great to get this kind of response, you're awesome!
Here are the latest changes based on your feedback so far:

  • Added an audio + visual notification when research is finished so you don't miss it.
  • Also added a notification for when the Hipster types are changing and when there's a new hot topic trending on Tooter, so its easier to pay attention to the trends in the game.
  • Increased the smallest Latte art brush, and slightly improved the AI that is attempting to recognize your latte art drawings. This actually an extremely complicated task for the computer, so it's not perfect, but it should be better than it was.
  • Menus now close when you click on 'nothing' outside of them.
  • The staff info panel now lets you toggle on / off the skills on each staff.
  • Fixed Audio for Voice / Interface not being affected by Master Volume slider.

Plus a bunch of smaller bug fixes.

Multi actions, save games and control customization in the brand new patch.

Hey all, I've just set the latest patch of the demo live. This one addresses some bugs and some user feedback from the past few weeks.

Latest changes:

  • You can queue up research now by pressing Shift + the stuff you want to research.
  • You can also add more of the same type of furniture, by holding shift when you click to place it.
  • And, hold my beer, you can even keep adding more of the same type of food by holding shift when clicking to place it.
  • Space bar now toggles between play and pause.
  • You can now customize more of the controls. Don't like rotating with the right mouse button? That's fine, you can rotate with any other button! Just change it in the settings. Space bar to play / pause? Why not try F8?
  • Saving games should now work a lot better. By that I mean, it should work now, it was definitely broken in a large number of ways before. Loading old save games will almost certainly be broken. There may be other exotic ways it is broken too, but at least those are a novel experience.
  • Scrolling with a mouse wheel should work more correctly in more places.

Plus a bunch of smaller bug fixes.
Big thanks to everyone helping me find bugs and providing feedback, you're awesome!

Steam Next Fest And What's Next Best

Steam Next Fest is over, and we want to thank everyone who played our demo! We got a bunch of feedback and bug reports through the online feedback form as well as the in game feedback form. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. Also huge thanks to everyone who streamed the game, made videos or wrote about it. It's so important for indie games to get any kind of exposure to have a chance at survival. Big heart energy.

I've decided to keep the free demo live while I work on more of the bugs and keep balancing and tweaking the gameplay according to your feedback, and will be making updates to the demo build while we move towards release. Think of it as a kind of free early access period.

I've just uploaded another build with more tweaks based on player feedback from last week. There's a lot more to come in the coming weeks, and I'll aim to put a new build up each week or two. Some will have gameplay tweaks, some will be bug fixes.

The latest patch includes:

  • Significantly increased the amount of time between changing hipster types, let us know if it's still too fast.
  • Fixed bugs related to running tutorials more than once, so if you didn't quite catch something the first time, that's like A-OK with the game now.
  • Fixed a number of smaller bugs related to Tooter content generation.

This adds to the two patches from last week:

  • Hipsters will now use the same entertainment item twice, if they have more than one of the same need. I don't remember why I thought this was a fun idea in the first place, but based on player feedback, you didn't. So it's changed now.
  • You don't need to pay the staff as much. Don't worry, most of them have their own trust fund and are just doing this as a side-hustle until the band takes off.
  • Tutorials should enable all the menus that it's trying to highlight, and keep the menu accessible.
  • Dad should now provide you with money if you run out. All you've got to do is call him. Your mum asks if you've tried using "Social media" for your café.
  • You can now move something on top of a counter, and then put it back in the same place. I'm not sure why you want to do that, but you couldn't before, and I got quite a lot of bug reports about it! (Actually thanks a lot for the bug reports, you're awesome!)
  • Having more than 1 staff should be much more stable now. Terry still isn't stable though, he had a bit too much wine yesterday and keeps going on about his headache.
  • Fixed a bunch of minor exceptions that could have caused other instabilities.

Zune Update

OHAI

Unlike the Zune, we're not actually dead, and have been hard at work since showcasing our prototype at Rezzed last year. We're a bit behind schedule, but wanted to give you guys an update showing some of the things we've been adding to the game since we last showed it.

Entertainment

Are you not entertained?! Neither are the hipsters, but they want to be. They now have needs, such as music, artsy and physical entertainment, that should be satisfied before they go to get their grub.

We want plates

Anyone can serve food on a plate. What will really set your hipster cafe apart? How about putting the chips in a mug? Is fast food even faster when it's on a skateboard?

Research tree

Your staff need to discover what the latest food blog trend is by spending time on social media. At least we put to bed the question of what came first, chicken or the egg. It was the egg.

Expansions

If your cafe is going to be successful, you will need to expand. Pricing out the local community is a good way of doing that. No one is going to remember the orphanage or the animal rescue center that used to be there when they hear about your avochinos.

Trend stock market

Keeping track of the current trends is important, but once something goes mainstream, don't expect it to stay cool for long.

We've still got a lot of work to do on the game, and it can be tricky to say how long everything will take and we don't yet have a specific release date, but we'll try to update more often going forward.
