Home By The River Update 5

These updates apply to both the demo and full versions of the game:

  • I’ve added a Sigil Corp droid swarm that comes at 10pm every night. The swarm will get a bit bigger each night. The player has a lightning rod that will turn on when droids are nearby and you can then click on the droids to destroy them. You can also build walls and the droids will lose their health as they destroy the wall tiles. Good fun in LAN co-op!
  • I’ve added sky nodes! You can fly around on your hoverboard and collect these. Every player across network will receive money, exp and spirit when one player collects. I think it is a good option to have so that any player who isn’t too into farming can still have fun and contribute to the team.
  • I’ve started making the town of Awa, it is on the left side of the world. The first place to visit is the Rivermen Lodge and you can talk to the Master Riverman. There’s also the first fetch quest which you can do by clicking on the bulletin board in the Rivermen Lodge. Over time I’ll be adding more locations and NPCs to the game!

This applies to the full version of the game only:

  • The droid swarm can only be stopped by donating technology to the world and removing the global influence of the Sigil Corporation.

Future development

  • I’ll keep on expanding the town and adding more NPCs and quests.
  • I’ll add a new tile so the player can upgrade their lightning rod. The upgrade should affect area of effect and damage.
  • I need to make more droid types with different appearance and health.
  • I want to add a boss droid that comes when the player removes the influence of Sigil. In revenge the Sigil Corporation will send a tough droid that will aim to demolish everything the player has built!
  • Over time I aim to keep on adding dishes from all around the world to the game.
  • Investigate having a laptop from which you can check the news today. You can also create social media posts that expose the Sigil Corporation, but doing so also costs you some of your hidden stat. Maybe from your computer you can also play a hacking mini game to restore your hidden stat.
  • Investigate global commodity pricing. You can see what is in demand from your laptop. Prices at the trading terminal will be affected by global pricing. This will mean that sugar is not always the most valuable commodity and it will keep changing.
  • Investigate basic terrain generation and perhaps terraced grass tiles.
  • Investigate a mini game for gaining back the Hidden stat fast.
  • Investigate making an opening cut scene for the game.

Home By The River Update 4

These updates apply to both the demo and full versions of the game:

  • I’ve added cute fluffy bunnies that hop around in the game world. You can feed them vegetables to gain virtue! Buy vegetables from the pantry.
  • The main menu of the game has been completely overhauled. It looks way better now and you can select your character and kitty colours before starting the game.
  • I’ve added a fridge and now you can buy cold ingredients for cooking from the fridge.
  • I’ve improved the appearance of the background by adding more animated trees and replacing all of the old static trees. The forest now has a beautiful fountain to make it look better.
  • I’ve added cattails to the foreground to give the game scene more depth and further beautify the game.
  • Trees can only grow to 5 units in height now instead of 11. This improves the beauty of the game.
  • I’ve given the pet cat a hunger bar. Feeding kitty gives you virtue, but if kitty stays hungry then you will lose virtue!
  • I’ve added a park bench tile which you can place in the world through the props menu. The player can sit on it and regain energy.
  • I’ve given the boat a boat spray animation to just make it look better in the water.
  • The sheep farm now also gives you cheese in addition to earning money everyday.
  • I’ve improved the appearance of the rainbow. I think it looks better now. Give me feedback if you see it!

This applies to the full version of the game only:

  • Higher level characters can place a fountain of hope in the world through their props menu. It recharges spirit.

Future development:

  • I’ll investigate having a town the player can visit. Perhaps the player can buy more specific items in town, perhaps do some quests, and maybe help some of the locals with their difficulties.

Home By The River Update 3

These updates apply to both the demo and full versions of the game:

  • I’ve made cooking more interesting and now you need ingredients to cook food. I’ve added a flour mill from which you can grind corn, wheat, and sugar into their respective ingredients. I’ve added a pantry from which you can buy ingredients.
  • You can no longer fly on the hoverboard when spirit is too low.
  • The player will get off the hoverboard when over a ladder tile.
  • You can no longer build when sleeping, resting, or praying. :D
  • I’ve made mouse scroll wheel zooming smoother and inverted the scroll wheel axis.

Future development

  • Over time I aim to keep on adding dishes from all around the world to the game. If the pantry gets too full then I will make a fridge and transfer all cold items to it so the player can buy for example butter from the fridge.
  • I want to investigate having a town the player can visit. Perhaps the player can buy more specific items in town, perhaps do some quests, and maybe help some of the locals with their difficulties.
  • Investigate having a laptop from which you can check the news today. You can also create social media posts that expose the Sigil Corporation, but doing so also costs you some of your hidden stat. Maybe from your computer you can also play a hacking mini game to restore your hidden stat.

  • Investigate basic terrain generation and perhaps terraced grass tiles.
  • Investigate a mini game for gaining back the Hidden stat.
  • Try to improve main menu. Give it sound.
  • Investigate making an opening cut scene for the game.

Home By The River Update 2

This update applies to both the demo and full version of the game.
Some exciting news! StarlightRemix  is working on creating new and original soundtracks for Home By The River. With this update you can hear the first soundtrack that plays when you start the game with a world that is polluted.

I’ve successfully implemented a hoverboard for the player. All of you have to do is drop off a ledge and it will switch on allowing to fly around the world! You can also place a Hoverboard Workbench tile in the world and then use it upgrade the speed of your hoverboard, and change its colour!

Home By The River Demo Update 1

I've made some general updates:

  1. Most trees in the background are now animated so that they look like they are gently blowing in the wind.
  2. I've added pins so that the interface on the right and bottom can be hidden. This gives more space on the screen for construction and harvesting!
  3. The player will now get EXP when harvesting or demolishing. This will help the player level up faster in what might be a more natural way. Btw, you gain exp by making computer games, using the study shelf, of course by placing tiles in the world, completing rewards.
