Hooking Season Update 2.1, Lunar New Year

With a new year comes new friends and new ways to play!

Steam's Remote Play Together has been fixed:

  • Join up to 4 players with either 4 controllers or 3 controllers + keyboard and play together with only one copy of the game.
  • Play together from anywhere in the world as if you're sitting next to each other.

Announcing the new character

New Year's Dragon:

  • Use Dragon's fireworks to move around.
  • His ability launches a remote controlled firework that works as a longer hook
  • Trace out a path and then pull your enemies from across the map
  • Get around walls quickly with his lightning fast hook
  • Be careful though, that much speed is hard to control!

Hooking Season Major Update 2.0, Winter Update

With this update we have finally released:

  • 2 new characters: Krampus and Buck

Krampus: The nightmare of Christmas is here to spread terror throughout the winter. Being used to the cold, Krampus is calm and calculated. That is until he is hit with a present, making him RAGE and pursue the aggressors like the menace he really is.

Buck: Being one of Santa's reindeers, Buck is as slippery as they come by flying large distances as a way to evade his enemies or confront them and become the winner.

  • 10 new skins:

With the release of this update, we have released the Skin System. Now you are able to switch skins of characters in the character selection by clicking your character's portrait. Every previously released character now has a unique skin, and we are currently working on more to come...

  • Some minor fixes

With this update released, our team will now enjoy our holidays and come back next year to make more content for our community. On that note, we wish you all happy holidays and a happy new year!!

Hooking Season Post Release Patch 1.3, The Convention Patch

And we're finished with Lisbon Games Week 2023, we took the opportunity to improve on the feedback and hands-on testing we got from all of you:

We got map updates:

  • River in Clover Grove no longer affects players in every state (such as being dragged)
  • Spooky Manor Pit functionality re-enabled
  • Gobbles's eggs now avoid the holes in Spooky Manor

Gameplay fixes:

  • Prevents players being stuck in the dragging state if the dragger gets interrupted
  • Santa's speed is no longer halved by dying after getting hit during his ability
  • Freeze's slow down effect removed from his dash
  • Goobles's eggs are no longer indestructible in some situations
  • Changed respawn effect color to match player ui color

UI:

  • Pause menu resume button and exit button working again during gameplay
  • Main Menu Options moved to improve controller support
  • Tweaks to ui resolution issues so certain elements will no longer scale weirdly
  • Corrected Overhead ui Colors so they match the rest of the ui for a more consistent visual language
  • Localization spelling corrections

On a somber note, we'd love nothing more than to have you all play online with friends from all around the world, but sadly, due to financial reasons, we cannot afford to maintain the online servers. Online play through steam share will always remain an option, but as of this update, the online matchmaking will be inaccessible.

We hope you continue to enjoy our game through all of this, we'll continue to work on content and fixes.

Hooking Season Post Release Patch 1.2

And just in time for Lisbon GamesWeek this year, here's our latest game patch, and it's a big one!

This patch is all about improving menu navigation and user experience.

We have plenty of UI improvements:

  • Win screen back button now matches the rest of the game
  • Pause menu options and controls screen rework to match the rest of the menu aesthetically
  • Fixed pause menu bug that stopped you from being able to open and close the menu with a button press if done repeatedly
  • Map select buttons are now properly centered
  • Gobbles no longer gets too big in some menus and no longer covers certain buttons

Fixes and additions to the online lobby:

  • Fixed bug in which game would freeze after every online match
  • Returning to the main menu after a match no longer kicks you from the lobby
  • Added a lobby lock system to prevent error in starting match
  • A new host is now select when the original leaves
  • You can no longer start a match with only 1 player
  • Online Lobby code is censored by default
[**] You can check the lobby code by hovering the mouse over it
  • Lobby Code now has a [Copy to Clipboard] option

As well as a few other general fixes and improvements:

  • Fixed long standing bug of incorrect item layers
  • Boogeyman's outline shaders and general ability fixes
  • Santa's rope is no longer slower than it should

We hope you're enjoying the game and hope you'll join us at this years booth too!

Hooking Season Post Release Patch 1.1

As promised we're handling all sorts of initial bugs and balance patches.

This week we've worked on:

  • 3rd and 4th characters on local no longer default to CPU's
  • Characters no longer remain visible while dead in online.
  • Items online now more closely follow the speed of the hook as they're pulled.
  • Fixed a Player detection error that caused duplicated player entries during gameplay.
  • Added missing localization tags

Lastly, we've sadly had to lock out the Spooky Manor map from online play due to some existing bugs, the map is still available for local play and will be re-released soon.

Dev Update: Next Fest June 2023

Hey everyone!

We've been hard at work on the online mode and making the game as smooth and as polished as possible. In the mean time, steam next fest June edition has started and we are a part of it!

Given this opportunity, we're going to be posting a lot of content during the length of the event, including updates for our demo and a new trailer!

Stay tuned to our steam page and social media for more updates!

Dev Update:

Hello everyone,
As mentioned in the last update we’ve been working hard on the standalone multiplayer system. At this point we have a fully working lobby implementation with features such as:
• Lobby creation
• Search by lobby code
• Quick join.
• Map selection
• Support for multiple game modes
At the same time we’ve been making progress on the gameplay side, ensuring that movement feels smooth over the network and making some of our abilities compatible with our online implementation.
And so, now closer to having a working version of our online implementation, we’d like to share some footage of our testing!

Dev Update: Multiplayer news, Ui work

Hello everyone,

The team has been quite busy applying the feedback that we obtained from both
the conventions and we're quite happy with the current state of Hooking Season!

One of the main topics of polish were the menus. They were clonky and confusing,
so we've been working on revamping the system a bit and you'll be able to experience
this in a build that's coming soon!

Asides from this polish, we've also been working on something very interesting:
online mode! Currently, we're using the steam share feature, where you invite
friends from your friendlist and you can all play together.
In the future, we want to have an independent system where players can match up
with strangers and see who's the ultimate Hooking Season expert! This is still
very early, but we'll be keeping you up to date.

DreamHack x Lisbon Games Week Update

Hello everyone,

We want to thank everyone who tried out the game in both Lisboa Games Week and Dreamhack Atlanta.
The feedback we received was great and the reaction to the game was even better than we could have predicted!

After a long but exciting weekend, we are getting right back into the
action, going over the feedback we received and starting to
implement it, as well as fixing some of the issues we spotted during the conventions.

We're ready to announce that we have been working on A.I (bots), and they are in a first iteration state.
They'll be sent out to playtest soon and should help anyone to fill up their matches and practice their skills.
We can't wait to see what you think of this first batch of bots, since as it stands, even the dev team is struggling to beat them!

In the mean time, we are working on a series of youtube videos, explaining in more
detail certain aspects of the game such as how to play online, how some characters work and more.

Not every character was available at the conventions, that was an intentional decision we made either because we thought some characters
needed a little more time and polish or because we didn't want to spoil our whole roster in one weekend.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work hard to bring the game to your hands in the best state we can.

The Spawn Point Team.
