NEW FEATURES



Toy Train Style
As requested by one of the game's biggest fans: Alex Chosen!



Sonic Boom
Another idea by Alex (thanks!). A sonic boom can now be heard when a train goes through the sound barrier, at 1234kmph.

Windowed Mode
You can now run the game in windowed mode using the -windowed command line argument. Note that this feature is experimental. The game might not adapt well to non-16:9 window aspect ratios.

FIXES




  • Fixed a bug that caused the train to point in the opposite direction when respawning.

Hypertrain has left Early Access!

Now it's official! ːsteamhappyː

Thanks everyone for your help! Your enthousiasm for the game gave me the motivation needed to get this far. I'm very happy with the result: Hypertrain is a one of a kind train survival simulator. As we say in dutch: een beetje vreemd maar wel lekker!

But there's always stuff that can be improved, so expect more updates in the future.

Hypertrain v1.0 released! Departing for Early Access on February 28th!

After almost one year of implementing community-fed feedback, fixing bugs and polishing with bleeding fingers, Hypertrain is now ready to exit Early Access! All the important systems are working (e.g. multiplayer) and the pillar gameplay features have been added.

Thanks to everyone who helped me achieve this! I develop this game in my spare time while having a full day job, which can be demanding energy-wise sometimes. But your enthousiasm (next to my own ːsteamhappyː) keeps me motivated!

v1.0 will not be the end of the updates for sure. I've got much more stuff on my wish list. Stay tuned.

Now follows the list of changes brought by v1.0:

MAJOR NEW FEATURES



Marauder Boss
The head of the Marauder clan hides in his tower of doom. You need to be pretty beefed up to have a chance of taking him out. If you manage though, you'll be rewarded with good(ies).



New World Settings
You can now adjust the world size. The default size is 128x128km but you can now go up to 1024x1024 if you're masochistic.

Victory length can now also be adjusted, from 50 to 100 wagons.


MINOR NEW FEATURES




  • Build Mode actions are now mapped onto the num pad keys.
  • You can now bring up a command console by pressing F5. The following commands are currently available: hidehud to hide the game HUD and showhud to unhide it.


CHANGES




  • Added variety in traffic speed.
  • Improved train explosion effect.
  • Decreased the amount of loops in loopings.
  • Decreased the chance of roads with ceilings.
  • Increased the amount of coins dropped by killed commuter/marauder trains.
  • Speed bonus is now indicated by a percentage instead of a factor.
  • Commuters will now move more goods per trips.
  • Gold items can now contain cards as well (small chance).
  • Decreased the cost of the Luxury Passenger Wagon by 50%.
  • Increased the pay-out of VIP passenger missions by 100%.
  • Construction wagon build mode speed increase lowered from 100kmph to 50kmph.


FIXES




  • Fixed auto-aiming bug.
  • Hall of Fame did not show build technologies.
  • Fixed buildings and trees intersecting the road.
  • Fixed some road generation bugs.
  • Fixed coorp trains now showing up in purple when communicating.
  • Fixed an issue where a multiplier card was not applied for repair, assassination or construction missions.

Update v0.10 released!

Get ready for the first update of 2019!

This update focuses on Production Facilities, Multiplier Cards, a multiplayer matchmaking server and many quality of life improvements.

MAJOR NEW FEATURES



Production Facilities
Production Facilities are special settlements that do not appear on the map. If you manage to find and hook up a Production Facility you are rewarded with one of three types of Multiplier Cards (see below).



Multiplier Cards
These collectible wildcards come in three flavours: x3, x5 and x10 (rare). When you accept a mission you can use a Multiplier Card to boost the mission pay-out by respectively 3 times, 5 times and 10 times. A card is consumed on use.



Multiplayer Matchmaking Server
Multiplayer servers are now automatically registered at a central matchmaking server. This way players can now conveniently select a server from a list in the game. I've also set up a dedicated game server here for people to play on.

NS 450
As requested by a user. This is a classic 50s locomotive which once served here in The Netherlands.



OTHER NEW FEATURES




  • Pressing the S key (by default) will now gradually decelerate the train.
  • The game is now automatically paused when starting from a save game.
  • You can now use your own music. See the Steam Guides section for more info on this.


CHANGES




  • Improved world generation speed by 50%.
  • The game now notifies you more explicitly on events like passenger claims, lost cargo etc.
  • Braking in Build Mode does not result in a full stop anymore.
  • If you sell a wagon it will now be added to the settlement's stock.
  • Building a left-most or right-most lane using build width 3 will now result in two more lanes on your left or right, i.e. the game will always build 3 lanes.
  • You can now toggle between a 5 and 15 degrees bend angle which makes building smoother curves possible.
  • When you upgrade a settlement its stock is now replenished to such amount that trading goods is immediately possible.
  • You cannot build road segments next to signs and stations anymore.


BUG FIXES




  • Fixed a bug where loading a game with a victor could cause another victor to be announced.
  • Fixed checker pattern road bug.
  • Fixed a bug that caused new player points to be rewarded everytime the same loaded game was won.
  • Fixed a bug where the wagon icon and description were not updated after a wagon was upgraded.
  • Picking up energy items when going >1000 kmph will not slow down the train anymore.
  • Trains stats will now be properly updated when a wagon is sold.
  • Fixed a bug that caused toll payments to be deducted at different rates depending on the number of settlement connections in the world.
  • FIxed a bug that made you pay toll on your own roads.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when entering the Hall of Fame screen.

Update v0.9 is out!

It's the season to release another Hypertrain update!

This update brings some exciting new features as well as many bug fixes and tweaks. Thanks again for all your feedback!


MAJOR NEW FEATURES



Construction Missions
Settlements will now give missions for constructing roads to (nearby) unconnected settlements. The train that builds the shortest road will be given a big sack of gold and - as the owner of the road - is entitled to all the toll payments given by Corp trains using the road.





Construction Tech Tree Path
Construction is now one of the main strategies to win the game. This is reflected by the tech tree which now contains a path tailored to construction.




Construction Wagon
The Construction Wagon lets you build three lanes at once. Futhermore, every additional Construction Wagon adds 100kmph to the maximum allowed train speed while building (to a maximum of 500kmph).




Repair Missions
Settlements will now ask you to fix holes in existing Corp-created roads. Don't crash against holes, just fix them! :)





OTHER NEW FEATURES




  • World Settings: there is now a "none" option for connections.
  • Additional ambient sound effects.



CHANGES




  • Construction cost: building a road segment now costs coins.
  • Significantly lowered the chance of road obstacles in corkscrews and such.
  • Lowered the cost of the Radar Wagon.
  • Terrain generation while building is now significantly faster.




FIXES




  • Fixed a bug that caused the game speed to increase when looking up or down.
  • Fixed "rubber banding" issues in multiplayer mode.
  • Fixed issue where the game would suddenly put your train in another lane.
  • Fixed issue in the Wagon Screen where wagons could disappear after a
    wagon drag-and-drop action.
  • .. and many more.


Please note that this version of the game is not backwards compatible with previous save games. Too much has changed within the game to make this viable. After v1.0 save compatibility will be guaranteed with every update.

Also note that not all localisation has been updated. At the moment only NL is completely up to date.

Finally, after v0.9 comes v0.10. Don't expect v1.0 too soon :)

Update v0.8 out now!

Another month, another update! This update focuses on multiplayer coop play through the addition of factions.

MAJOR NEW FEATURES



Factions
A faction allows human players to work together under a single banner. Faction members share settlement ownership bonuses. Each faction has a tax fund which is used to distribute the faction's total wealth evenly across its members. A faction wins the game if the average of the lengths of all its members surpasses 50.



Toll Revenues
Toll is now paid to the creator of the road segment. Toll revenues are paid out at the end of the day.

Shop Stock
Settlement shops now have a limited supply of wagons.



Control Mapping
Controls can now be mapped to custom keys!



OTHER NEW FEATURES




  • Winding road segments.
  • New types of road overhangs.
  • Neon signs on stations and some buildings.
  • Purple gold items. Can be found in Marauder Nests. Rare but valuable.
  • Navigation Wagon. Provides HUD aids for navigation. Previously these aids (i.e. the compass and mission target indicators) were available by default.


CHANGES




  • Doubled the chunk size, which means the render distance is now doubled without any performance loss.
  • Improved cloud variety.
  • Starting settlements are now 50% larger.
  • Lots of minor UI changes.


FIXES




  • Fixed movement glitch when switching locomotives.
  • Fixed movement glitch when changing lanes to freshly built road segments.
  • Fixed movement glitch of battle trains.
  • Fixed issue where off-road trials were cut off by the main road.

Corp Battletrains
These trains pack a real punch. They protect important Corp properties and attack everyone with a reputation (REP) lower than 25%. Respect The Corp!



Covered Roads
Some of the roads you'll encounter now have ceilings. These are excellent hiding spots.



16km Render Distance
If your system can handle it.



Battery Wagon
With the all new Battery Wagon you will never run out of energy anymore.

Plasma Shield
You can now upgrade a Shield Wagon to a Plasma Shield Wagon which protects 3 times better than the normal Shield Wagon.

Hi Hypertrainers!

Another big update is out! v0.6 adds the following:

New Features




  • Wagon Upgrades: you can now upgrade a Turret Wagon to a Double Barrel Turret Wagon for double the fire power. Passenger Wagons can be upgraded to Luxury Passenger Wagons to allow for the transportation of VIP passengers. Cargo Wagons can be upgraded to Oil Wagons to be able to transport the new Oil good.

  • VIP passengers: these people pay well and boost your passenger trust (TRUST) but be sure to give them a smooth ride or their claims will hurt you. Require Luxury Passenger Wagons.

  • Desert biome, Oil good and Oil Cargo Wagons: the new Oil good is now a requirement for upgrading your cities to metropoles. The new Oil Cargo Wagon upgrade is required to move Oil around. But beware: oil is highly explosive! An exploding Oil Wagon might cause a chain reaction of exploding wagons which can be disastrous for your train!

  • Locomotive skins and customizable horn sound fx's: unlock skins and horn sound fx while you level up.

  • Hints overview: in the game's Help screen.

  • French translation: special thanks to Théo "BLU REMOTE" Parizot. ːsteamhappyː

  • Default passenger claims lowered to 75% of the mission fee (was 200%).
  • Changed the appearance of Marauders.
  • Diamond now only spawns in mountainous biomes.
  • In case of missing translatation the game now falls back to english.
  • Damage now negatively affects AI locomotive acceleration.
  • Marauders will now favor attacking Passenger Wagons instead of Locomotives.
  • Gold items will now disappear after a while.
  • Gold items cannot be destroyed anymore with bullets.
  • If a settlement is upgraded it will now instantly produce 5 times (as if 5 days ended).
  • Corp hypertrains now drop more gold when killed.
  • New default seed.

Update v0.5 released!

After many weeks of work I'm happy to release the multiplayer update of Hypertrain! This is a big update touching most of the functionality of the game. Thanks for all your support so far!

Note that the game is still very much in Early Access, so expect bugs.

New Features





  • Multiplayer ːsteamhappyː. Play against others (PvP) and the Corp (PvE) in a shared Hypertrain world! Information on how to set up your own dedicated multi-player server can be found in the Steam guides section.

  • Autobuild. Just drive and rail segments will be added automatically. Works at speeds up to 250kmph.

  • Shield wagon. Protects adjacent wagons (or locomotives) against bullets.

  • Mission target HUD indicators. These help with finding the right directions.

  • AI level setting. A lower AI level means a longer game.

  • Additional music from Maxvic.

  • Stair-shaped city buildings.

  • Corp passenger-only trains. Treat them with respect.

  • Language support for Czech (CS) and Spanish (ES).





Changes





  • Improved Mission Payout screen layout.
  • If a cargo wagon breaks down you will now lose the cargo.
  • If a passenger wagon is hit then all passengers will now lose trust in you and will claim you. Use shield wagons to protect your passengers!
  • The effectiveness of booster and repair wagons will now depend on their health.
  • Player XP points are now also granted for lost games.
  • Marauders and Corp trains are now brightly lit at night. Removed the less effective blinking green lights.
  • Changed the appearance of Marauder wagons.
  • Colliding does not always result in a crash now.
  • Game now starts with a random piece of music.
  • Many small gameplay tweaks.




Fixes





  • Issue that caused some special characters (like Ä, Ö Ü) not to display.
  • Pressing ESC in some windows could freeze the game.
  • Some ring road exits were too steep, causing road blocks.
  • At high speeds the train model could jitter.
  • .. many other minor bugs.

Next update

Hi guys,

Here's an update on what I'm currently doing.

Currently I'm slowly but steadily working on the multi-player mode of Hypertrain. As expected, this is a lot of (complex) work which also touches large parts of the single player code of the game. When I've got something working I will probably release it in a multi-player Steam branch first before merging it with the main branch.

The multiplayer setup will be client-server, in which anyone can run a dedicated server and up to 64 (hopefully, also depending on the power of the server) players can join in. It will be both PvP and PvE. That's the goal at least.

If in the meantime game breaking bugs emerge in the current version of the game then I'll definitely release patches. Bug fixing has the highest priority as always.

@31/07: we just had the second multiplayer test and it went very well! I'll be on vacation for the rest of the month but in September I'm planning to release the multiplayer mode and continue with the rest of the gameplay features. See you soon!
