Bonjour everyone, we have a few announcements to make today!
To kick things off - I am Setsuna is now available in French (I'm guessing the announcement title gave that one away?)
Secondly, we've released a short accolades trailer so you can check out what critics think of I am Setsuna. Give it a watch right here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZyKiPVl_Tc
Finally, to sweeten the deal we've also (temporarily) slashed the price of I am Setsuna by 40% so now's your chance to get yourself a copy at a much cheaper price!
I am Setsuna Fan Box Art Competition
I am Setsuna was released earlier in the summer back in July and we’re really grateful to everyone who has bought and played the game. The developers of the game, Tokyo RPG Factory put their heart and soul into the game and if you’ve found the secret village on Mortholm Island then you may have seen some proof of this yourself. If you haven’t then journey to the North West to find a very special little village!
We’ve loved seeing your love and support for I am Setsuna, whether it be sending in your questions for a Q&A with the development team (which should be coming out soon), showing your support with a special nametag, sharing your music covers, fan art or just talking about your time enjoying the game. Thank you to everyone for buying and playing the game.
When we announced I am Setsuna, one thing that a lot of people asked for was a physical, boxed version of the game. Unfortunately, due to a variety of reasons outside of our control, a physical edition of I am Setsuna isn’t viable for us to produce. I can’t go into the details but that being said, we did hear you and thought about ways we could do something for fans of the game so we came up with an idea for a unique competition.
We would like to ask all artists to help us create some box art for I am Setsuna. Since the game is a digital only release, we’re going to create a special one of a kind physical game case for I am Setsuna for one lucky winner (and also give away a bunch of other prizes).
So here’s how it works:
How to get involved
Above is a size template for box art for a PC game case. Using this as a rough sizing guide, we’d like to ask all fans and artists to create their own fan box art for I am Setsuna! The fan box art can have anything on it as long as it’s related to the game I am Setsuna and contains no offensive imagery, so feel free to be as creative as you want.
Then all you have to do is email your artwork to us at sejcommunityeu@square-enix.com as an attachment (you don’t need to send us a high resolution version to enter the competition but make sure you have one available in case you win – minimum 1280x720, 300 dpi), along with your full name and have “I Am Setsuna Fan Box Art Competition” in the subject line.
Is there a prize?
Of course there is!
Once we’ve received all the entries for this competition, Tokyo RPG Factory will pick out their top four favourites. The number one favourite will win the following:
Grand Prize
The winning fan art will be printed and signed by members of Tokyo RPG Factory and also be packaged as a physical, one of a kind PC game case.
1x very special one of a kind personalised message from Tokyo RPG Factory
1x Steam Collector’s Edition of I am Setsuna (including the Winter’s End OST)
1x I am Setsuna OST (on CD)
1x I am Setsuna t-shirt
1x I am Setsuna tote bag
Runner up Prizes
Three runner ups will also have their fan box arts printed and signed by Tokyo RPG Factory.
So how long do I have to submit my entry?
The competition will end on 7th November, 2016 so you’ve got a bit of time to create your amazing fan box art but don’t wait until the end and rush it (we’ve all done it in school!). Members of Tokyo RPG Factory will then pick their favourite entries as the winners of the competition and we’ll be announcing the winners on 14th November so keep an eye on your emails around then to see if your art work is one of Tokyo RPG Factory’s favourites.
We’d love to see what you guys can come up and feel free to share your artwork on Twitter and use the hashtag #IamSetsuna and we’ll retweet our favourites too.
Thanks again for all of your support and we can’t wait to see your fan box art entries!

Ask the developers of I am Setsuna your questions!
Hi everyone! All of us at Square Enix hope you’ve been enjoying I am Setsuna since we released it in the West in mid July. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet I seriously recommend you do. I absolutely loved it and picked up the platinum trophy for the game not too long after it launched!
Anyway, I’m here today to explain about a neat opportunity we have put together for everyone – starting today we’re giving all of you the chance to put your questions to the development team behind I am Setsuna! For those of you who don’t know, the studio of developers who developed I am Setsuna are named Tokyo RPG Factory and here are a few words on them:
"Tokyo RPG Factory is a newly established studio specializing in Japanese RPGs, started in August 2014. The studio revisits the ethos used to develop past RPGs to create a completely new RPG series, which will introduce the authentic JRPG style to current hardware using the technologies of today."
Now I’m sure you’re all asking “are Square Enix supplying us with postcards and stamps?!” whilst I have to say we (unfortunately) are not I can tell you that in order to get your question across to the team in Japan you can either post your questions to us as comments on this announcement post or as a tweet. If you’d prefer to tweet the question to us then please use the #IamSetsuna hashtag as this will make it easier for us to track all of the questions coming in!
If you’d like to introduce yourself to the dev team and the rest of the I am Setsuna fan community then this would be a great time to do so! You can print out this image below and fill in your name, take a photo with it and attach it to your tweets. You could also fill it in digitally and even add a photo of yourself in to introduce yourself to everyone!
This is an awesome and very rare chance to speak to a whole development team based out in Japan (as opposed to just one or two spokespeople) so do take this opportunity to ask questions on just about anything to do with the development of I am Setsuna. Please do note that as not everyone has finished the game yet the team we won’t answer any questions which can spoil the story of the game for other people so do keep this in mind when posting your questions in!
The team are really looking forward to your questions and are going to answer a bunch of them in the form of a video message. I’d like to ask that you get your questions to us in the next two weeks (so if we say by 23:59PM BST on the 4th of October) and don’t worry – we’ll be sure to let you know when the team’s video message is online!
Thanks for reading – we’re looking forward to seeing what you guys put together using the “I am” images and the dev team are looking forward to reading and answering your questions!

I am Setsuna is OUT NOW!
“Countless adventures captivated us when we were kids. Now, it’s time for us to return the favour with adventures of our own.” When the new Square Enix micro studio Tokyo RPG Factory was formed, this was the goal they set out for themselves. They wanted to bring back the JRPGs of yesteryear using modern technology from today and their first game is a JRPG called I am Setsuna which is out now!
I am Setsuna tells the story of Setsuna; a young woman of incredible inner strength and the sacrifice she must make to save the people of her land. She lives on an island and this island had a custom.
To maintain peace, once a decade, a sacrifice was offered to a fiend on the island. However, one year, the fiend grew violent before the next sacrifice was due. Those living on the island were afraid and tried to calm the fiend by offering a sacrifice; Setsuna, chosen because of her powers of enchantment. Setsuna must leave with her safeguards for the farthest land, where the ceremony of sacrifice will be held.
I am Setsuna is a great homage to the golden age of JRPGs and is inspired by the timeless classic Chrono Trigger. It features beautiful character designs, an incredible soundtrack that features just one piano and varied in-game locales that evoke nostalgia for classic JRPGs.
If you’ve played any old school JRPG from the 16 or 32 bit era, you’ll instantly recognise the style of I am Setsuna but using the latest technology, it delivers an emotionally impactful and memorable story which immerses you in the narrative of Setsuna, whose story portrays heartrending sorrow.
Let us know if you run into any issues with the game but we hope you enjoy I am Setsuna.
“The “good old days” are coming back. To every RPG fan in the world… This is for you.” – Tokyo RPG Factory.
