I am Your President

Devblog #18 - A Post-Festival Briefing

Future Presidents!
Thank you for your cooperation. Because of your relentless feedback and helpful ideas, we could find what needs to be changed or added to the game. The playtests allowed us to find and identify many problems and mistakes found in the current version of the game. When we implemented those, the demo seemed to run fine… Most of the time. This did not mean that everything was perfectly fine.

This run of the demo has brought much-needed feedback and taught us to the following:

  • the mystery of a disappearing cursor - it just went missing in various moments of the game. After sending multiple search parties and looking into the code, we found most problems that caused this. Turns out, the cursor needed a moment to itself.
  • sometimes even buying glasses does not help - we are going through a list of texts, widgets and other in-game buttons that are too small sometimes. This also touches on the importance of the correct font. We looked into it and hopefully, now everything is more readable.
  • you can read, we can write, we promise - the game is long and there is a lot of text that needs to go through major proofreading sessions. We can see the typos and we groan sometimes when we notice the dumb mistakes.
  • journalists need to calm down - the reporters were either too fast or too slow, so our presidents were left there on the podium in front of a disinterested crowd of fancy-dressed people. We hope to have calmed them down and given them a more reasonable timeframe of work.
  • the map needs some polishing - there are a few problems with readability and sometimes it turns out that North Korea was in the EU all along. It’s news to us too, but it’s something that can easily be fixed, a few documents here and there, so we can kick them out. North Korean version of Brexit can happen.

We noticed ‌many people felt unsatisfied with the amount of content in the demo. Please remember that this was supposed to be a short demonstration for ‌the Steam Next Fest. After release, the game will have much more content and after that, we are planning to work on a story editor, which will allow players to change many aspects of the game.

The demo is still available if you want to hop in and play yourself.

The White House is Now Open!

The White House opens its doors to visitors and new presidents! Welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay!

Waltz into the Oval Office like you own the place, by clicking this brand new button on our Steam Store Page!

We implemented new features and fixed old ones, so you can become the next president of the United States! Make promises, break them, spy on others and start wars, you are the boss! You are, that is, until you get impeached, so maybe slowing down on the whole starting conflicts would be smart. But it does not matter! The Resolute Desk is yours now and you are in control.

So check out the demo today!

You are the President!

Try your skills as a head of a country if you think you will do a better job than any president before. Who knows, maybe you will become beloved like JFK, hated like Nixon or they will forget you like…. Eee… what’s his name again? Eh, never mind. Keep members of your cabinet close and nukes even closer, as you rule one of the most powerful economies in the world!

As the president you have to remember:

  • You have the last word (until they impeach you),
  • Nukes are sometimes an answer,
  • Promises are your ammunition for reelection, so please, try to keep them.

PLAYTESTS BEGIN

Future Presidents! (or should we say Current Testers?)

We are opening the playtests once more! This time for everyone!
Help us find bugs, glitches, mistakes, spelling errors, basically anything that could make thetha game a less enjoyable experience!

This version of the playtests was limited to fit the upcoming demo and the amount of content in it.
The parts of the game we want to focus on this time are:

  • the map
  • bills you will sign as a president
  • overall playing experience
  • bug fishing

We can’t wait for more feedback from you all! While we’re available on social media, Steam and in our Discord, we encourage you to use the in-game reporting system, as information put there is directly funnelled to the programming team.

Good luck with your political careers!
And thank you so much for testing with us!

A Short Update about the Playtests

Future Presidents! Dear Testers!

We have important news to share!
We are pausing I Am Your President playtests, so we can focus on the bug fixes and polishing features. We are giving ourselves a timeframe of around a month, after which we would like to come back. Our return will bring more content, (hopefully) fewer bugs. When we come back, we will also open the playtests for everyone!

Thank you for your patience and see you in the playtests!

If you have any questions, join our Discord and ask ahead!

Devblog #17 "Projects Tab"

Welcome future Presidents!

Your careers are a delicate balancing act. You have to consider many elements and make sure they all work together. Your political opponents, global turmoil and moody constituents will try to throw you off balance. In the game, this will be represented by a number of statistics you have to take care of. Projects are the way to make sure they are all well balanced, while you still fulfil the political goals.

Along the party lines
After the initial questionnaire, you will be given access to the project tree compatible with your party’s policies. Both Republicans and Democrats will have their own separate projects based on their policies from recent years. There are 15 major sectors in the projects tab, they have been chosen from the yearly federal spending reports. Each party has 6 sectors to choose from and develop. There are 3 additional sectors available to the president regardless of their affiliation.

Risk and reward
Each round, you can spend action points and statistics to invest in a project tree, increasing the benefits it provides each turn. After reaching maximum funding (typically 5 investment points), you unlock a specific project and are able to move to the next tier of the project tree. This decision can be made up to four times per project tree, so be careful! Once unlocked, the project provides permanent benefits - and, sometimes, permanent drawbacks. Balancing the costs and perks arriving from your project trees is how you survive the unexpected.

Prepare for a crisis
When in office crises are inevitable and you have to understand how to run the White House, so you can survive until the next election cycle. Planning which sectors to fund and accumulating stats to minimize losses will help you not only from day to day but also on a larger scale.

Save yourself from game over
Unfortunately, sometimes planning alone isn’t enough and you need another option to save your skin: that is where projects come in. Defunding a project tree you’ve previously been pursuing might provide a much-needed statistics boost that allows you to survive and fight another day!

These skill trees will be your best friend in fulfilling the promises you’ve made at the beginning of your term in office. Invest wisely and make sure to plan ahead. If you have any questions about the project trees, you can ask them on our social media and in our Discord!

Devblog #16 "The First Month of the Playtests"

On November 2nd we opened up the playtests for the first group of lucky players. Since then the devs have worked tirelessly to ensure that the game is becoming more and more stable and slightly less buggy.

Many updates included changes in the tutorials. Hints throughout the game became more common, so all players can easily traverse menus and explore the potential offered by the game. Some disconnected tutorials cause issues with answers in dialogues, which in turn created game blocks in a fraction of our players’ playthroughs. We’re still working on them to make sure that all replies in dialogues appear and the bug is resolved as soon as possible.

We implemented additional content. Some of the tabs in the game were intentionally left empty, so they can be gradually filled in. Map and Projects are still being tweaked and upgraded and we added new functions to them.

There were also many minor fixes, which included text formatting, quality of life changes for both the devs and players, changes in the game's balance, or nongame breakup bugs. Many blockers were dealt with and even though new ones constantly appear, they are and will be taken care of.

There were also updates that didn't work as expected when implemented. So previous versions were brought back. This included a project compression system, which turned out not to be as viable an option as previously thought.

We have had many questions about reporting the bugs. The most reliable way to do it is by leaving a message in our discord, we check it all the time and will be most likely to answer any questions there. You can also post your problems in the playtest forum on Steam. There is also a feedback option in the game itself.

As the updates rolled out we added more players who have been an immeasurable help to us. This will continue until we run out of players to add.

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding! We're anxiously waiting for your feedback!
See you on Discord!

The Playtest Update

Future Presidents!

A new portion of news about the playtests!

We opened the access to the first group of testers, and the rest will soon follow.

We decided to split the playtests into various updates and after each, we will let more people in! This will allow us to make sure that every update is looked at by new players with fresh perspectives. We can’t wait for the feedback and bugs you will report!

We’re also in the process of making a roadmap, which will help us communicate what we are up to. We’ll soon show it off on your social media.

If you want to keep in touch with the developers and all the smallest updates to the playtests, join our discord!

Devblog #15 "YOUR Presidency"

Future Presidents!

As the devs polish and finish up the main story of the game, and we slowly approach the announced earlier playtests; we would like to introduce you to something that will allow you to create your own presidency! The bills introduced in the previous devblog and the little hint about your own creations are just a little snippet of the game’s full potential, which can be realised with your creativity and imagination!

Along with the game’s full release, we will be giving you access to a beta version of a story editor, so you can write your own bills and implement your own projects! You will be able to edit the majority of the game’s aspects, going even as far as creating from grounds up your own campaign.

The unfortunate news is that the editor will require at least a brief familiarity with Unity as it will be a set of editing tools. For those without the necessary knowledge, we will release tutorials, helping with learning the story editor and its functionalities.

Depending on the interest and feedback from the community, we will develop the editor further and try to make it as accessible as possible, even considering reworking the editor into an easy-to-use website!

If you have questions feel free to ask them on our discord!
