Today an update has just gone out that addresses the prossibly most requested feature for IFFG - the ability to turn off the rhyming dialogue and instead play the game with normal dialogue instead.
There are some minor things to keep in mind:
- There is still some rhyming in the game, however it's gone from being 99% of all dialogue to somewhere around maybe 2% of all dialogue.
- The short opening sequence is part of that 2% of dialogue that does still rhyme, so if you enable non-rhyming in the options and find the opening of the game is still in rhyme, don't worry!
- During testing of this update, I noticed that in some very old saves, the option menu breaks with the new options in there, however all saves where I see this issue is from before the game was launched, so here's hoping none of you are affected by the issue. If you happen to be affected, starting a new game should resolve the issue, but if you are getting the issue, and you don't want to restart, please reach out to me and I'll do everything I can to fix it for you.
That should cover it! Included in this update are also a number of corrections to spelling and grammar of the old dialogue which came up during my time rewriting everything to not rhyme.
Non-rhyming version is coming
Hello!
It seems there's a pretty even split with people that like the rhyming dialogue in the game, and those that haaaaaaate it.
As I want everyone to have a fun experience playing I fell from Grace, I'm happy to announce that I'm working on a toggle in the options to turn off the rhyming and have standard dialogue in place.
Keep in mind, this update is probably several weeks out as it'll take a long time to "translate" all rhyme into normal dialogue.
Another announcement will be made once this patch goes live.
Multiple Save Slots Are Here!
A couple of weeks back, I mentioned that having a single save slot in I fell from Grace was a conscious design decision during development, in order to make player choices carry more weight throughout the game.
Many reviews and users have however noted that for those that want to play through IFFG multiple times, in order to find the various endings, this becomes tedious as they need to replay from the beginning each time.
Today, a patch has been rolled out that enables 8 save slots in addition to the autosave slot. What some of you might find when loading a save, is that the loading animation is stagic - don't worry, the game has not hung, the save will load.
For those out there that are completionists, and want to set a save at a strategic point in the game to have to replay as little as possible, but have the most options of where to take the story, below spoiler will advise you on where to set it:
The very first story split is when you have to make the choice to either offer a tablet to Grace, or tell her that more research is needed. This is when you return home after Stinky Pete has disappeared from his usual spot.
Official walkthrough is live
There's now a "barebones" walkthrough available online here
It doesn't look like the links in the document works when viewing it on google drive so you might need to download the file in order for it to work as intended
It does not go into any detail of what is happening at any given point in the game but rather just very briefly discusses what you need to do next in order to progress.
It's difficult not to complicate things when trying to explain a branching narrative in the linear way that a pdf document is by nature, but hopefully it's possible to follow along.
I'll try to link in an achievement guide to the document next week if time permits.
Minor bug fixes and other announcements
Hello!
I've just pushed out a minor update to fix some cosmetic bugs that can occur if you load a save in the bedroom where under certain circumstances, you'd see two sprites of Grace.
Also, some dialogue fixes.
On a non-patch related note, there should be what I call a "barebones" walkthrough going online before the week is over. The walkthrough will not specifically talk about what is happening but is more so intended to help you get unstuck if you're unsure what to do next.
It's very concise and to the point.
I've seen a lot of comments made about the current save system in IFFG. There is only one save slot, that auto saves when making decisions. This was a conscious design decision to make choices matter and carry more importance, but it wouldn't take very long to implement multiple save/load slots if that's desired. Please leave a comment below if this is something you'd like to see implemented in a future update.
Celebratory discounts!
In the spirit of celebration, I fell from Grace will be on sale for a limited time at 50% off!
It's just over a month since I fell from Grace was released, and I for one feel like celebrating this fact. I'm also looking at making IFFG available for both Linux and Mac gamers in the coming months, so stay tuned if that's something you're looking forward to.
Progression Choice Bug Fix
Yet another small bug fix has just gone live. Under a very certain set of circumstances, you might be robbed of the ability to go down certain story arcs you're supposed to be allowed down. This has now been addressed.
Once again, shoutout to BernardoOne for identifying the bug!
Another minor patch
Tiny update pushed out a few minutes ago to resolve a soft lock that could occur when interacting with an NPC in the downtown bar under certain conditions.
Shoutout to BernardoOne who discovered the bug!
Tiny Update
Pushing out a tiny update that corrects some grammatical errors in dialogue.
Hello world! And minor launch day patch!
So I fell from Grace is finally here!
It's been many, many months in the making, with hundreds of hours of testing to ensure there are no bugs for launch, and of course I overlooked a new menu element and how it might interact with other menus.
There was a minor bug in the launch release where if you chose to start the game over, and at the warning screen for starting a new game when a save is already detected, the options menu would steal focus and stay there.
I've just pushed out an updated that addresses this issue.
