Patch V-09: higher volume levels, more credits, fewer AudioListeners

Another day, another patch:

  • I had a closer look at the volume levels of sounds and music, and decided to increase the internal volume levels quite substantially. You probably want to adjust your volume settings in SETTINGS > AUDIO > SOUNDS and MUSIC.
  • Also, I cleaned up the Unity scene by removing one of the AudioListeners.
  • And last but not least: I added some more credits to acknowledge the authors of various assets that I'm using.

As always, please let me know any comments!

Patch V-08: fixed leaderboards, gray highlight color, and clipping in demo

This patch fixes three issues that came up when I was playing with COLORS set to off, i.e. in star mode and in x-bar mode.

  • Hovering over a rod changes the color of the rod to highlight it. For gray rods, that highlighted color is now brighter, which shows more clearly which rod you are hovering over.
  • In the full game, the leaderboards for star mode and x-bar mode have been fixed. (The demo doesn't support leaderboards.) Apparently, they had never worked, because the code that I was using only worked for one single leaderboard. Oops.
  • In the demo, the near-plane view clipping of the cloned Tilt Five™ view was fixed.

Unfortunately, I tried to update the app while Steam had world-wide connection problems. The demo updated fine, but it took about an hour to update the full game. Sorry for any inconvenience.

February Challenge

The challenge for February is about solving puzzles in levels 1* and 2* starting with code 1000-01, i.e. solving puzzles in star mode without colors. Please watch the video before trying this yourself! And definitely don't try this if you are not already familiar with icosi-do!!

Patch V-07: spectating Tilt Five player

This is just a small patch of yesterday's update, which includes experimental support for one spectating Tilt Five player, i.e. you can connect two pairs of Tilt Five™ Glasses to your PC and the first player will control the game as usual, while the second player will be able to see more or less what the first player sees, but they don't have their own wand. However, the second player might be able to use the first player's wand as long as the first player looks at it.

Unfortunately, I have only one pair of Tilt Five™ Glasses; thus, I cannot test the experience for the 2nd player. If you have two pairs of glasses, please give it a try and let me know in the comments what you experience!

Update V-06: polishing Tilt Five support, "GAME MODES", etc.

This update features improvements of the Tilt Five support (mainly based on the technical requirements by Tilt Five), specifically:

  • I've updated my Tilt Five Unity SDK from 1.2.1 to 1.3.0, which also means that all Tilt Five users of icosi-do have to update their drivers to version 1.3.0 in order to use Tilt Five™ Glasses.
  • When you start icosi-do and the app detects outdated drivers, the UI tips remind you to update them.
  • If you check the system with SETTINGS > AR GLASSES > CHECK SYSTEM and the app doesn't detect Tilt Five™ Glasses, it now replies "NO TILT FIVE" instead of "NO GLASSES" in order to clarify which AR glasses are supported.
  • If the app detects Tilt Five™ Glasses but no Tilt Five™ Wand, it shows a warning that the wand is offline and that you have to point with head cursor (or - if view cloning is off - mouse cursor) instead.
  • The tutorial now calls the joystick of the Tilt Five™ Wand "joystick" (instead of "thumbstick").
  • Quitting the app now requires a confirmation, which was introduced to avoid accidental exits when turning off the wand by holding the T5 button.

And two unrelated improvements:

  • SETTINGS > MODES was changed to SETTINGS > GAME MODES.
  • A couple of unused audio files have been removed.

Of course, the demo has been updated, too. As always, please let me know any comments or problems in the comments!

Fourth Weekly January Challenge

This week's challenge is the last part of a 20-levels play-through starting with code 1003-01; this week includes levels 19+ and 20+. If you want to challenge yourself and solve level 19 before watching the video then start a game with NEW GAME (in the main menu) and select CODE instead of a level to enter the code 2561-19.

Next week's challenge will be something completely different.

Third Weekly January Challenge

This week's challenge is continuing this month's play-through starting with code 1003-01; this week includes levels 16+, 17+, and 18+. Like last week, I didn't solve these puzzles before recording. If you want to challenge yourself and solve level 16 before watching the video then start a game with NEW GAME (in the main menu) and select CODE instead of a level to enter the code 9266-16.

The plan is to continue with level 19+ next week.

Submission to Deutsche Computerspielpreis 2023!

icosi-do has been submitted to the Deutscher Computerspielpreis in the categories Best German Game and Best Debut. There might actually be a non-zero chance of winning in the Best Debut category. Wish me luck!

Second Weekly January Challenge

This week's challenge is a continuation of last week's play-through starting with code 1003-01; this week includes levels 13+, 14+, and 15+. I didn't solve these puzzles before recording; therefore, it took longer to solve fewer puzzles than in December's weekly challenges. If you want to challenge yourself and solve level 13 before watching the video then start a game with NEW GAME (in the main menu) and select CODE instead of a level to enter the code 7266-13.

My plan is to continue with level 16+ next week.
