Hi everyone! We hope you had a great time playing the Imp of the Sun demo and we’re really loving all the feedback we have received! Today is our 3rd entry for our development diary and we believe now would be a great time to introduce you to a few (though not all) of the places you will visit playing through the game!
Izhi’s Farm
Sat at the peak of a mountain, you will find the golden spear that marks the center of the Sun’s empire, and it is here you will begin your journey to end the eternal eclipse. Izhi whom we met in the previous development diary settled down here, protected by two rising bridges able to watch over the golden spear and built a farm. Izhi’s Farm is surrounded by precipices and is the area where you will access the other environments within Imp of the Sun!
The Jungle
One of the places you will visit during Nin’s adventure to restore the Sun’s light is the Jungle, a dark and misty land in which only a few rays of light manage to creep through the tall trees overhead. As you explore the jungle you will come across small villages and lakes, which are harmful to beings of fire like Nin, which are filled with unstable platforms that begin to sink upon contact. You will find other environmental walls such as roots that will require Nin’s special abilities to pass through!
The Desert
Another area you will explore along your journey is the Desert, an extensive vast and treacherous land, which holds an abandoned city and the golden temple of Tui, the Keeper of the Desert. As you progress through the desert and explore the ancient ruins you will find hints signs of war against another keeper’s army, and brave your way through several puzzles in order to progress onto Tui, the Keeper of this land.
The Mountains
The Mountains is an extremely steep and dangerous map, featuring a vertical range of mountains in which a single misplaced jump can lead to death if you’re not careful enough. This map took inspiration from Machu Picchu, with the background, rocky and grassy terrain and ruins all leading credence to it. The enemies you find throughout the Mountains can make the climb even tougher, though the journey will be treacherous, you will learn new abilities in order to help you as you brave the climb, and who knows what you will find in the ruins stood at the top..?

We’re excited to show you some of the characters you will be meeting in Imp of the Sun! Hi everyone! We hope you had an awesome time with demo release of Imp of the Sun. Today is our 2nd entry for our development diary and we’d love to take a closer look at some of the interesting characters and villains that we met during the demo!
Nin
Nin is our small-but-mighty protagonist sent down from the sun to restore The Sun’s power and end the eternal eclipse. He is a fast and versatile with an innocent side and is determined to carry out his mission and save the world from the looming darkness!
Sunaya
Sunaya, the curious and friendly girl you’ll meet at the outset of your journey, is incredibly strong-willed, helping Nin on his quest every step of the way! She is a representation of the better future that Nin is fighting for. Handing over any collectables you find throughout your journey to her might net you some special rewards, so don’t forget to do this!
Izhi
Izhi is the grandmother of Sunaya. Tired of living under the darkness of the eclipse for years, she appears to have given up all hope for the suns return – her biggest wish. Help Nin progress through the many challenges to bring hope back to people like Izhi! Some collectibles you find when handed to Izhi could help you find out more about the lore of the world!
Qari
Qari the spooky traveller is quite the opposite of his appearance! Helpful and cheerful, he serves as a checkpoint for Nin’s journey! Whenever Nin finds an abandoned lantern and interacts with it, progress will be saved, and fast travel locations will be unlocked.
Ruku
Ruku, The Keeper of the Jungle, is a giant magical being that floats above the lake of the Jungle. Ruku wanted greater power in order to defend the Jungle from possible attack. After betraying her creator, she managed to achieve just that. Ruku wears a mask based on Chachapoyas culture and is one of the bosses you will fight along your journey with Nin!

Firstly, we're really excited to share that we have some huge news coming very soon! We're incredibly thankful for our fans' support for us and for Imp of the Sun, and we're constantly looking at ways to show our appreciation for this continued support :D So we're really looking forward to sharing what we've got coming up as we think it will be something you will all love!
We'll be posting the news here on Steam and our other social channels very soon, so be sure to keep checking in for updates!
In the meantime, we wanted to give you a glimpse into some of our original character artwork so you can see the development journey, and also give you sneak peeks at some of the significant changes to the character designs! So let's kick things off :D
Significant changes made to the character designs so far!
Our original thinking behind the character designs was to have a more realistic and dark theme, which resonates with the story tones. However, this changed over time as we felt that having cuter and vibrant designs suited the game more!
It was important for us to have the NPC's personalities reflected in the character design!
Izhi is a sassy yet wise old lady, so we used purple tones for her maturity and pink for a playful spin on her character.
Tui is honourable and competitive, a lot of texture and polish was used on his design to reflect his elegance and regency.
Ruku is one with nature and independence, the blue tones represent her wisdom and freedom.
Llanthu had the most significant changes to his design, originally he had a quite animalistic design from living in the caves. But in the end, we wanted to portray his power and might with sharper sculpting and neon lighting.
Suyana is very determined and resourceful, the contrast of cool and warm tones show her head-strong attitude being cooled by her sweet and caring outlook.
We hope that you enjoyed a glimpse into our creative vision for Imp of the Sun! We really like how our cast has turned out, and we'd love to hear if you have any favourites! So do let us know in the comments :D

Happy New Year from all the team behind Imp of the Sun!
It's a New Year and we're excited to share some more info with you on the game as we get closer to launch!
Over the next few months, we plan to bring you some posts on the characters, music, gameplay features etc. But first, we'll start with the background to the game and it's how the team at Sunwolf have looked to their past to inspire this new game.
This year has flown by and we’ve achieved so much!
Development is nearly complete on the game and we are starting to put the finishing touches on the game and adding some exciting extra features like minibosses, challenge zones and secret passages for you to discover... As well as lots of post-game content to try out once you've ended the Eternal Eclipse!
You can even notice some of the slight changes made to our hero since the alpha! For the better, don't you think?
So, what's next?
We're really excited for you to see more of Nin this year as we get closer to launch later this year. And who knows, you might even get the chance to play a snippet of the game early... ;-)
The game will be released later this year, although we have so much left to do here at Sunwolf before we can get the game in front of you, we can't wait for you all to get hands-on and let us know what you think!
Keep checking back on our Steam page as we introduce monthly Dev Diaries to keep you in the loop with all the progress we make!
But if you want even more exciting content make sure to Wishlist, join our Discord and follow our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook page!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
We hear breaking the wishbone over your turkey dinner is good luck, however, we’ve found it’s much easier to knock a Skeleton head off while exploring the Underworld!
2021 has been a great year for Imp of the Sun and here are 3 reasons why!
Reason 1 - We got to record the soundtrack using historical instruments from Peru!
This year, we were lucky enough to visit a museum in Peru that showcases many Latin Americas musical treasures and historical artefacts!
Many of the instruments found in the museum can be heard in the Imp of the Sun soundtrack! Our personal favourite was the Cupisnique Whistle, which also happens to be the oldest instrument we recorded with and is estimated to be 6000 years old!
You can watch the music video here if you would like to find out more about the Soundtrack in Imp of the Sun!
Reason 2 - We received a ton of great fan art from you!
We are so thankful for all our creative fans on Discord who have already started to submit fan art, we wanted to highlight some of them today! And the top 3 fan artists this year are… Vanished_._, H3ru and our top contributor Rex / American Donut!!!
Reason 3 - We’ve already been featured in 2 online events and have so many to look forward to next year!
Back in August, we featured in Future Games Show at Gamescom, where we showcased a brand-new trailer! Since then we’ve had some coverage from global media outlets – some of which we’ve included below with our favourite quotes.
GamesRadar+ - “Help Bring the Light Back To A Beautiful 2D World In 2022” GOG - “In 2022, Imp of the Sun Will Light a Fire in Your Heart” Multiplayer.it - “Imp of the Sun Is An Exciting New 2D Action Platform Inspired By The Traditions And Folklore Of Peru”
We were also featured among 500+ other incredible Indie Games during the Indie Live Expo Winter Awards 2021!
So, thank you for being an amazing community so far and we’re so excited to bring you tons of content over the next few months!
