In Exilium

Anniversary and Price Reduction

Hey all,

Well, In Exilium has been on Steam for a year now, and it's been a heck of a ride for me so far, this being by first game and all. Just want to take this chance to once again show how much I appreciate those of you who have enjoyed the game.

In honor of the one year mark, I'm going to reduce the price of In Exilium by 60%. The new working price should be $3.99 USD. My hope is to make it a bit more accessible to people who were perhaps on the fence about purchasing it due to it's previous price point.

I took a chance to play the game again over the past couple days and I am still happy with it, which is a good sign I guess ;)

So in ending here, if you are a new player and you are looking to check out a minimal, non hand-holding and exploration focused RPG with a few puzzles, then I hope the new price point is more of an incentive to check out In Exilium :)

Cheers,

- Gabe

Thank You from the Dev

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to take a quick moment here to express my gratitude for checking out In Exilium. I had the opportunity and pleasure of communicating with quite a few people this weekend who had picked up the game over my birthday, and it was really great.

I realize the game isn't everyone's cup of tea for sure. Attempting to make a Diablo type game, but strip away the elements that are common (and some might say essential) in those types of games - like quests, an actual plot line, impressive graphics or tons and tons of loot, is perhaps disappointing to some.

Those of you who got the game and were looking for an experience more like that, and ended up not really enjoying the game, I just want to say I still appreciate you taking the time to check it out, and I hope you could at least find a little enjoyment playing it.

Those of you who were able to appreciate the minimalist approach and focus on the simple, non-hand holding and exploration focused design - as well as those who were able to pick up on the subtle thematic purpose of the game, I want to say, as a lone developer, that is something that truly makes me happy :)

If you enjoyed the game, or even if you didn't, I would really appreciate it if you could take a minute and rate the game (positive or negative!)

The game is in no way a "success" in the traditional understanding, but to me it exceeded all my expectations. For that, I want to once again thank everyone who was willing to invest some of their time in this game.

Cheers,

Gabe

Update 1.64 and Developers Birthday

New updates to In Exilium include some bug fixes, and it is my birthday this weekend! Make me a happy man on my birthday and check out the game. In Exilium will be on a special birthday discount this weekend.

Fixed issues:
- Antivenom necklace now works correctly
- Legendary Items (Like Titan Armor) no longer consume imperium stones while crafting
- Steam achievements are submitted every time an achievement is accomplished, regardless of whether it has been claimed in game yet.

Known Issues:
Unfortunately there are some issues still that are probably not going to get fixed. First is the "Stuck Saving" issues. This bug is very random and happens pretty rarely, but every now and then, when transferring to a new map the "Saving" screen will get stuck for prolonged periods of time. This is due to how the version of Unity the game is built with, serializes data files. Good news is no data is ever lost, and actually all that's happening is it is falling WAAAYYY off a performance cliff. It only happens when the save file is saved in a particular configurations. There are workarounds, you can wait it out. It could take between 30 seconds and 5 minutes, but eventually it will get serialized and you will be able to continue. Second workaround is you can exit the game, start it back up, and go to a different map (changing the save file configuration) then return to the map that was giving you trouble. Like I said, there is no data loss, so save file will never get corrupted, it's just the way I save files has more layers of depth than Unity is expecting when it serializes out to the binary file, so sometimes it falls way off a performance cliff. To fix this would cause all existing save files to no longer work... so it unfortunately can't get fixed without some serious work.

Second issue is that *some* non- US keyboard layouts have problems with shortcut keys. Once again, this is a limitation with the version of Unity I'm using where it doesn't support certain key codes, I would also need to create custom key binding support, which is possible, but Unity still may not recognize the new Key Codes. A bad workaround if you have this problem is to just randomly press keys on your keyboard and hope you can find the ones associated with the US layout key codes 1 - 5.

That's it for now, thank you for checking out In Exilium! And stay tuned! I have been working on my next game and I am about to reveal a little about it in the coming month :) Follow on Twitter @ConfluxGames if interested.

Cheers,

- Gabe

In Exilium OST

The official soundtrack for In Exilium is now available!

It includes the 16 tracks from the game plus two bonus tracks.

Composed by Andrea Giachini, the In Exilium OST contains a variety of tracks ranging from soothing, ambient melodies to intense instrumental pieces. As the developer, I could not be more happy with how Andrea captured the lonely atmosphere I was trying to create in each track.

Please feel free to check out some of the tracks here

In Exilium Updates 1.61 - 1.63

Alright! Update 1.63 is here. The most common criticism of the game so far has been the frequency of loot drops. I initially wanted drops to be rather sparse, but it really seems like that turns off a major player demographic of the game! And I don’t want that! so I upped the drop rate :) Not too much to clutter up the game with junk or to make loot the focus (because it should be exploration), but enough so that players who really want to go out “treasure hunting”, won’t have to wait as long to get paid off.

With that, I have also changed around which enemies drop what. I made all ‘main bosses’ drop the complete set of rare items so hopefully more players will be finding them! (because there really are some cool and unique items, but I fear they are so rare that only a very small portion of players will ever find one) So that has been remedied! To support these changes I have also added a page to the game’s website that lists all the enemies and which items they drop. You can check out the full drop list here: http://www.exiliumgame.com/droplist.html

Furthermore, I have changed the way some skills work, mainly the “Blessed” and “Cursed” skills and fixed all bugs that have been reported (menu hot keys not working - energy damage bonuses not working - occasionally being able to walk through gates)

I hope these changes meet players well, enjoy!
