This hotfix for inbento is meant to fix an issue where returning players lost their in-game progress after updating to version v2.50.
Patch notes for inbento v2.51:
Reverted the cloud save system to an older version,
What caused the problem?
The issue was caused by introducing a new save synchronization system that was supposed to allow Steam Deck players to suspend their gameplay and pick up the progress on other systems - however, we haven't tested it enough and didn't realize it would cause issues for returning players.
After updating to version 2.51 the problem should be fixed; unfortunately, due to this change we've created save file separation for players that have updated to v2.50, for which we're very sorry.
If you have played inbento before updating to version 2.50, your progress was stored in the local files of your computer (along with the log files)
If you started playing after updating to version 2.50, we stored your files in the Steam Remote Storage.
How to solve the problem if I was affected?
For players that started playing before version 2.50: If you'd like to continue playing with your old progress preserved, update to version 2.51.
For players that started playing after version 2.50 and have already made progress in the game that they want to preserve: Switch to the "steamremote" branch in order to access the version 2.50 with the Steam Remote Cloud save system.
If you happen to run into any other issues while playing the game, please let us know at inbento@afterburn.games!
Hi! Update v2.50 for inbento is available now across Windows and MacOS on Steam and we hope you'll enjoy what it offers. To celebrate we've also launched a discount just in time for the Steam Cooking Fest!
This is a maintenance update (meaning that there are no new puzzles to solve) which introduces a whole range of improvements that the community was asking for in the past.
The big two changes are the addition of a Reduced Motion Mode, meant to help motion-sickness-prone players by simplifying transitions between levels; and the Unlock All Levels toggle to help you carry over progress from other platforms, or just skip that pesky puzzle you've been having trouble with (I'm looking at you, 11-5).
Patch notes for inbento v2.50:
Added a “Reduced Motion Mode” toggle in Options,
> We’re happy to be able to bring over this often-requested feature from our other games,
> When enabled, transition animations between main menu, photos and levels will be replaced by a fade in order not to trigger motion sickness for certain players,
Added an “Unlock All Levels” toggle in Options,
> This also makes the jump from our other titles!
> When enabled, you’re free to check out any* level or photo in the game without the need to unlock it first,
Improved game display for aspect ratios other than 16:9,
> Now it should be easier to enjoy inbento if you’re using a 4:3 screen, or a whopping 32:9 display!
Added a new section - Other Games - to the main menu,
Added white fade when browsing between photos to make the interface look nicer on non-standard displays,
Added info about the current build version to the main menu,
Added a loading screen when returning from game to the main menu,
Changed intro screen to white to create a better first-time user experience,
Rearranged the items in Options to make it easier to find things,
Reworked the VSync toggle to support On/Off instead of having multiple options,
Increased resolution of tab icons in main menu,
Removed the tiny scrollbar visible in credits,
Updated in-game credits,
Fixed level label when playing the hidden level,
Fixed the mute button not working as intended,
Fixed not being able to close the Clear Save popup using ESC/B buttons,
Fixed the display resolution list not working as intended on MacOS,
Fixed the parallax in some photos not working as intended,
Fixed box texturing not looking as intended when camera was moving,
If you happen to have any issues with the new patch, be sure to let us know via the Community Forum or by mailing us at inbento@afterburn.games.
Additionally, if you encounter any problems with the game that prevent your progress, we've kept the old build - v2.04 - available on a "legacy" branch which you can enable by going into the game's settings:
We hope that this update will keep inbento enjoyable for years to come :)
Cheers, Team at Afterburn

Last but not least - v2.50 update beta is live now!
We also planned to celebrate this 5th birthday by releasing a big maintenance update for inbento. Unfortunately, ongoing work on our next game - Pup Champs - didn't give us enough time to finish doing everything we wanted, which is why we decided to release the update in beta and fully wrap it up later this year.
You can try the update for yourself by going into the game's Preferences > Betas and entering the access code happybirthday to unlock the [anniversary] branch:
Update v2.50 does not add any new puzzles or story artwork to the game, but it was a good opportunity to clean up some old code and introduce a bunch of features that already debuted in Golf Peaks and Railbound.
To that end we added some long-requested accessibility features like toggles for unlocking all levels, muting all audio and reducing motion sickness:
We also cleaned up the Options menu, fixed some issues related to screen resolutions on MacOS, tweaked input when changing story illustrations & more! We'll do a deeper dive into these changes once the update leaves beta; but for now we'd be glad if you helped us test this patch and left your feedback.
However, the main reason for this update was unifying the mobile and standalone (read: all other platforms) versions of inbento that used to live on two separate branches (because of how their user interfaces were constructed) into one, allowing us to make future work on the game easier. We don't have any content (read: new puzzles) planned for inbento at this moment, but if we ever wanted to add them, the work we put in over the past month will make it a bit easier :)
We're thrilled to announce that inbento is part of the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase! To celebrate, we're offering a 70% discount on inbento for a limited time. 🐱🍱
But that's not all! We're also excited to introduce the demo of our newest game, Pup Champs—a tiny tactical puzzle game where you lead a football team of cute dogs to victory! 🐶⚽
Check out inbento and Pup Champs in the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase and enjoy the puzzle fun! 🧩💡
