Demo version 1.0.3 is live!

Despite our horrible internet issues during the Steam NEXT Fest, we got a lot of interest in INCOMING from the community, so before anything else, I want to send a big THANK-YOU to all of your out there who checked out our stream, tried our demo, and wistlisted INCOMING.

That said, we did get a lot of feedback from players on bugs, and possible improvements! I've started by picking off a bunch of the low hanging fruit, but I plan to fix some of the major reported issues in the next week.

In this release...

  • Fixed a major improvement in the particle Z order drawing which sometimes makes the reticles disappear when in-front of certain particles
  • Fixed An issue where turret aiming can get Stuck in one position
  • Changed balance for the too-tough zeppelin mooks, they're squishier now, but more spawn to balance it out
  • Fixed sound levelling for some sounds that were too loud
  • Added sound effects for running characters
  • Fixed some animations that weren't playing

In next release... (March 4th)

  • Reports of hand tools sometimes getting "frozen" and requiring the game to be restarted. I noticed that this only happens on knuckles-type controllers like Rift and Index, never Vive. Looking into it, but I think it has something to do with selection and deselection accidentally being pressed at the same time, which can happen on knuckles controllers much more easily.
  • Add "Hand" type cursors for menu screens
  • Shrinking the hitbox on the lab. Nukes appear to explode before hitting the lab, which seems unfair to players.
  • Waterfall mist particle effect is much too bright after zOrder change
  • Make the bombers easier to kill (they're a bit of a drag)
  • Space out the action in the Boss level so there are no gaps
  • Fix the quit "Taps" to play longer

These changes will be in-addition to regular development towards the final game. I chose to push back the release date 2 weeks to deal with the new issues that people have been reporting. But please KEEP BUG REPORTS COMING! I want to hear about anything that isn't right.

Thanks!

INCOMING: A VR game about Strategic Nuclear Defense

[previewyoutube="xrvxjkRCLGw;full"]

At SuperScience we are interested in exploring new uses for emerging technologies, like AR/VR. "INCOMING" is the first of many of our ideas about making a new type of VR game.

In this talk, we'll discuss a bit about the inspiration behind INCOMING. The technology, the art. Meet the devs and the artists and writers, as we show off the various weapons and enemies of INCOMING.

A short description of the game:

At a giant's scale, with your cities about waist-height, warheads fall from the sky, falling towards your island! Direct your defenses like a concert conductor, one reticle in each hand, and destroy the incoming threats before your people get nuked!

Over time the waves get larger, and new types of warheads appear - tougher warheads, faster warheads, warheads that change direction mid-flight! And now zeppelins and bombers and jammer aircraft too!

But your tech advances too! Fire and forget interceptors, larger AOE interceptors, miniguns and lasers!

You'll need to be quick and clever and observant, but even that might not be enough as the mighty bosses darken your skies, with their endless barrages of missiles and more!
