Black Mesa X Intruder: Final Announcement

Greetings Agents,

At long last, we are doing a final update on the Black Mesa X Intruder mapmaking competition now that the judging process is complete. Due to unforeseen scheduling issues, we have prepared a wrap up video showcasing the winning maps and honorable mentions instead of the planned developer livestream.

Developer Wrap up Showcase Video

To celebrate the hard work of our competition winners, we are releasing a showcase video to wrap up the map creation contest. Tune in to get the teams’ thoughts on what they enjoyed about each map!

The Winners

First off, we wanted to thank all the participants of the mapmaking collaboration between Black Mesa and Intruder for all their excellent submissions. We were very impressed with the amount of work that our community members put in, and thoroughly enjoyed getting to try them all out. While it was very difficult to pick from all the entries we received, the following 3 were our favorites:

Third Place: Black Mesa South

In third place, we have BlackMesa South submitted by Xixo. A map that is true to form, we could clearly see inspiration drawn from both games with an authentic atmosphere and sneaky routes to steal the package. We very much enjoyed getting the opportunity to play this map, and want to congratulate Xixo on making the top-3.

Second Place: Foreseen Sequences

In the runner-up position, we have Foreseen Sequences submitted by DoubleOSpanky. With interactive environment features like keycards, deadly lasers, and collectible tapes this entry spices up gameplay with a well designed and extremely detailed experience. This was an excellent map, and we were very impressed with what we saw! Thank you for creating such an interesting and creative map for us to play.

First Place: Potential Energy

Finally, the winner of the Black Mesa X Intruder mapmaking competition is Potential Energy submitted by ActionMan! This entry truly pushed the limit of Intruder Map Maker with a campaign style mission that has custom objectives, multi-round objectives, and moving vehicles it almost seems like this could be its own game! While there were many strong candidates for top prize, ActionMan’s was a cut above the rest. This was a fantastic map, and we want to thoroughly congratulate them for getting 1st place!

That’s everything that we have for you today. We enjoyed the opportunity to bring our two communities together, and are extremely impressed by all the maps that were entered. Thank you all for making this an amazing event. See you all later, scientists!

Tricks

As Halloween approaches, even the toughest intruder refuses to accept a solo mission to Cliffside as there has been a legend passed down to new recruits for as long as anyone can remember...

The Tale of the Lone Intruder
A long time ago, on a dark Hallows' Eve,
one intruder set off, with a case to retrieve.

But something was spooky, not a guard to be seen,
in the densest of fog, what could it all mean?

But a figure approached, not living or dead,
a guard stumbled forward, with bolts through his head.

As the intruder ran, he began to perspire,
but a demon with horns rose up from the fire.

And out of the shadows, yet another surprise,
Guards began to appear, with glowing green eyes.

Alone and outnumbered, hoping to survive,
he jumped from the window, and escaped alive.

He still had the package, and barely returned,
battered and beaten with his gadgets all burned.

Nobody believed him, but he had almost died,
so he still warns recruits, of the Spooky Cliffside.

The legend returns as Cliffside has been transformed into Spooky Cliffside for a limited time! With spooky decorations, a thick fog, and an endless night there are many surprises to be found, so watch your step as it may be your last.

Treats

While the Tale of the Lone Intruder may have been just a story to scare recruits into working as a team, you can now bring the nightmare to life with new Halloween hats:

Other limited unlocks include red dot sights, a sniper reticle, skins, and more! Grab a sneak peek below:

Also, all unlocks from last Halloween rise from the grave and will be available once again!

Bugfixes

While spooky season is all about creepy crawlies, we don't want any bugs in our game! As usual, see below for a list of bugfixes and other small updates.

  • Bloon Cam Popping - the Bloon cam should no longer pop when flying through decoys of getting bumped by someone holding a package, bullets still hurt though...
  • Oceanside Lighting - One of our most visually pleasing maps has been marred by a recurring lighting bug that should be fixed for good.
  • Bulletproof Packages - After our last update, our previous package supplier accidentally switched to aluminum briefcases that let bullets go through. After reports of the intel being damaged by gunfire, we've fixed the issue and our stainless steel bulletproof cases are back!
  • Shutter Desync - We have fixed the faulty wiring on the shutters, so now they should be synced open or closed for all players!
  • Failed Extracts - We have been getting reports of intruders completing the objective, but not winning the round. This should no longer happen, so go out and capture those packages!

Don't want to end up like The Lone Intruder?
Create a squad and play with friends from our Discord where you can meet other agents, suggest cool features, and participate in community events! You'll never have to go on a solo mission again.

Hotfix 2371

  • Updated some red dot sight incorrect materials
  • Fixed some room versioning issues

Update 2368: Small updates, bugfixes, and Intruder Competitive League results!

Greetings agents, and welcome to Update 2368! If you haven't checked out out the new sounds, map changes, and effects update that came out a few weeks ago I recommend you take a look, or you can just watch the video below. In this update, we are mostly adding a few small tweaks and fixes, but we also want to congratulate the participants of the 5th season of the Intruder Competitive League!

Intruder Competitive League

The Intruder Competitive League (ICL) has been a mostly community organized event where players from around the world come together to find the top team in Intruder! We recently finished up season 5 which consisted about 250 players on 39 teams who played over 100 matches of Intruder. That's more matches, players, and teams than all previous seasons combined! As a thank you to the players, exclusive in-game items have been granted to all participants, and additional prizes to the top teams. If you see any of the following in a game, you know you've got a "pro" Intruder player on your team.

  • The top 3 teams will receive an arm patch which denotes their team's ranking.
  • All participants will receive a wall tag alongside a trophy hat that can only be unlocked by participating in the ICL.

Finally, a shoutout to the ICL Season 5 world champion team, HOLY! To commemorate this exciting achievement, an appropriately themed hat has been added into the game, the HolyHalo!

Intruder x Black Mesa - Mission Complete

Calling All Agents!

Today we are announcing that the Black Mesa X Intruder mapmaking competition has finally ended after two months of awesome work from both of our communities.

While we are sad to see it go, we are also extremely impressed by all the hard work you’ve done and are very excited to test each and every one of the maps that have been submitted to us.

With that being said, here are the next steps for this event:

Judging and Announcement of Winners

The first order of business will be for both the Crowbar Collective and Superboss Games teams to look at and judge each of the maps that were submitted. From these, the developers will select a winner, as well as a 2nd and 3rd place submission.

Given the time required to properly test and judge each map, we can’t give an exact date that the winners will be announced. Rest assured, scientists, we will be working diligently through all the submissions and expect to announce the winners in the near future.

Stay tuned on our Discord and social media pages for the announcement of the winning maps!

Final Developer Livestream

Shortly after the announcement of the winners, both development teams will conclude their epic crossover event by playing with and against each other on the top 3 maps. You have all put a lot of hard work and creativity into your submissions, and we want to give our winners a chance to let their work shine!

Given that the judging process could take some time, stay tuned for the date, time, and location of this live stream event. The announcement of the live stream should be shortly after we have announced our competition winners.

Now to the performance assessment… Which Agents and Scientists made it to the top?

That’s everything that we have for you today! We appreciate everyone in the Intruder and Black Mesa communities who participated, and hope you had as much fun making the maps as we will have with playing them.

Make sure to join our Discord server to never miss out on any future events!

We’ll see you on the Island,
Superboss Games x Crowbar Collective

Update 2335: New Sounds, Map Changes, & Effects!

Greetings agents, and welcome to update 2335! Listen up, because this update focuses on some key aspects of sneaking around in Intruder including sounds, glass, map updates, and more!

General Updates

These are changes that don't pertain to a specific map or were not big enough to warrant their own section, but are still good to know about.

  • Grenades - All grenades have updated colliders and bounce a bit more.
  • Notes - Notes now display text and can be read from a distance.

  • Decoys - Decoys can now be placed much faster (1.5 -> 0.55 second cooldown).
  • Armor - Armor walking noises have been reduced in volume by 15%.
  • Hack Terminals - Terminals now have more text and flavor text when hacking. If the terminal transmits to a status monitor, an additional transmitting graphic has been added.

  • Mapmaker - Mapmakers can now allow falling package captures, add a cooldown between activator activations, enable unity events for terminal hacks, and add the transmitting graphics to terminals.

Glass

Whether or not you prefer to shoot, blast, or punch your way through glass, this update brings about some major changes to how glass works in Intruder.

  • Glass particles now have updated graphics to look more like real shards of glass.
  • Glass particles are now discrete and physical objects which means they will no longer fall through floors and interact with the environment accordingly.
  • Glass now has a different pitch when it breaks depending on the size of the pane.

Sounds

For a game where silently sneaking past your opponents and listening in on conversations is a pivotal part of the experience, we noticed that Intruder felt a bit empty in terms of sound and have brought in some new sounds for your listening pleasure!

Spatial Sounds

These new sounds can be heard by everyone around you, so listen in to try and gain intel on the enemy!

  • Grenade Impact - CS, Smoke, and Concussion Grenades now make noise when bouncing off of surfaces.
  • Laser sensor - Now makes a noise when sticking to a surface.
  • Shield - Now makes noises when falling down after being knocked out of someone's hands.
  • Package - Dropping a package off your back now makes a noise as it hits the floor.
  • Banana - How loud is a banana peel falling on the floor? Now you can find out as bananas now make noise on impact!
  • Cardboard Decoy - Decoys landing on the floor now make noise.
  • Hack Terminals - All terminals now have a fan noise that is audible when nearby.
  • Hacking - Hack terminals now use mechanical keyboards and HDD's that make noise when hacking.
  • Smoke - Smoke grenades now make noise as the smoke is released from the canister.
  • Bullet Casings - Discarded shells now make noise as they bounce around.

First Person Sounds

These new sounds can only be heard by the player making them, so don't feel like you have to be completely silent all the time.

  • Equipping Guns - All guns have unique equip sounds.
  • Equipping Gadgets - Most gadgets now make a standard equip sound.
  • Pickups - Armor and Guns now make a unique sound when being picked up.
  • Deployment - Deploying the Cardboard Decoy or Banana now makes a unique sound.
  • Fire Selector - Changing the firing mode of the Manta now makes a distinct click.

Map Updates

We also have some new features on your favorite Official Maps!

Riverside

Some major changes have come to Riverside, but overall it's still the map you know and love.

Gameplay Changes

  • Windows - Glass has been added to all openings, and now each pane breaks individually rather than in groups.
  • Garden - A new fence and denser vegetation should make it easier for an intruder to sneak through.
  • Map limits - You no longer die by wandering too far out of bounds, and some trucks have been added on the side of the road to denote the limit.
  • Non-Shootable Light - A non-shootable light has been added to the Bathroom Hall in B2 to illuminate players by the slit windows.
  • Shootable lights - New shootable lights added to Lab B and Garage hall. Shootable lights now have different texture than non-shootable lights
  • Shutters - Shutters have been added to most of the northern windows on the main floor of B2. These are fully penetrable by all bullets, and can be opened/closed with a switch.

Graphics and Bugfixes

  • Garbage cans - Added to B2 bathrooms so y'all can throw away your trash.
  • B2 Roof - The Bloon Cam no longer pops when flying over the roof of B2.
  • Graphics - Added frames to some openings, fixed some textures, fixed some lighting, and resolved some occlusion issues.

Cliffside

Cliffside has some minor changes to the map itself, but some big changes have come to Cliffside Raid!

Gameplay Changes

  • Windows - Glass has been added to all openings, and now each pane breaks individually rather than in groups. All windows that do not have a usable ledge underneath have been made slippery.
  • Cliffside Raid - The package locations have been moved a bit deeper into the rooms they are in, and a new extract has been added all the way down on the desert floor.

Graphics and Bugfixes

  • Graphics - Fixed some textures and some lighting.
  • Sticky Spots - Floor length windows have been fixed so you should no longer get stuck when trying to run through the empty panes.

Mountainside

Most changes were bugfixes or graphical changes, but a few changes have been made to help newer players as well.

Gameplay Changes

  • Ziplines - The zipline from the bridge booth to the cliffs has been made a bit easier to get on, and a rock has been added at the end of the garden zipline to prevent you from sliding into the ocean.
  • Falcon Code - A note has been placed next to the Falcon that explains where to find the code.
  • Windows - Glass has been added to all openings, and now each pane breaks individually rather than in groups. Bathroom windows slide open for silent entry.

Graphics and Bugfixes

  • Booths - Added green lights to guard booths, and added red lights and shutters to mountain tunnels.
  • Collision - Fixed a spot on pipes where the collision did not align with the model.
  • Graphics - Fixed some textures and some lighting.

All Official Maps

A few changes were made across all official maps, so check them out below!

  • Doors - Doors should no longer push players into walls.
  • Misaligned or floating objects - Many objects were moved to properly line up, which eliminates gaps, clipping, and other issues.
  • Clocks - Clocks now have updated models and move in sync with game time.

Bugfixes

As always, we are fixing bugs as often as possible. You can see some of the recent fixes below.

  • Smoke should no longer pass through surfaces as much as it has in the past.
  • Smoke and CS gas no longer work under water.
  • Laser Sensors no longer endlessly beep if someone is stationary in front of them.
  • Stumbling on a slippery surface should no longer spam the slipping noise.
  • Falcon Scope no longer gets washed out when in a bright light.
  • Corrected textures, updated texture resolutions, and fixed lighting on certain objects.
  • Back to back glass panes should both crack when shot through with a single bullet.
  • Can no longer have multiple players hack the same terminal for double hacks. Players can still simultaneously hack different terminals within the same group.
  • Can no longer hack after round end.
  • Bullet impact effects no longer float in the air if the object they were on is picked up.
  • Taking a picture with the Bloon Cam at the same frame a round ends no longer breaks the HUD.
  • Breaking glass and switching weapons simultaneously no longer locks your mouse or prevents you from changing weapons.
  • Multiple sounds have been cleaned up and optimized.

DiD yOu KnOw ThAt!?

You can use the SEND functionality of the Binoculars to silently send codes to your teammates!

Clarification on Update 2287 & New Unlockables

Hey Agents!

We have seen some confusion in regards to the new Unlockables and the Black Mesa event, and we apologize for that! We wanted to clear the air and get everyone on the same page. 🙂

Here's a quick summary of the current state of the Unlockables and how to get them:
- The Black Mesa Top Hat and Black Mesa Flask: will be available indefinitely, and can be unlocked by owning a copy of Black Mesa on Steam, and playing for at least 60 minutes of Intruder.
- The Manta Skins will be available indefinitely: and can be unlocked by owning a copy of Black Mesa on Steam, and playing a full match in Intruder.
- The Other Black Mesa Themed Items: can be unlocked via random drops when leveling up until the Black Mesa Event ends on September 28th.
- The Monkey and Banana Peel Hats: will be available forever as random drops, as they are not part of the Black Mesa event.

Hopefully this clears up some confusion, but please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. We are more than happy to help!

Back to the grind, Agents!
