Devblog #4. Of dwarves and Geomancers.

Another devblog was not long in the making since we wish to introduce you to a new enemy that will appear on the Dwarven Floor while also giving you more information on abilities you are already familiar with.

Geomancer



While dwarves are not particularly fond of magic, there are a few disciplines that are notably excluded from this stigma. For centuries, Geomancers have practiced their craft, proving invaluable to the larger dwarven society in both for war and underground construction. There was a time when the Geomancer and Alchemists Guild were roughly equal in power but ever since the invention of gunpowder, one seized control and the other was left to grumble and sneakily plot for the day when they would usurp the throne. Of course, the rise of Iratus threw a rather large wrench into their plans.

We have made a new animations for the skills of the Hammerer, Oracle and Treasurer.













Work process

Work is continuing on balance changes and revision of minions’ skills.

Once again, our attention returns to our Bride of Iratus. Her ability “Overwatch” won’t ignore Armor anymore, but its damage has been increased to 100%. We will also increase the damage of “You Won’t Get Him” and its debuff will work for 2 rounds. Furthermore, we had to change the cost of Bride’s ultimate ability “Rose For A Lady”, now you need 2 souls to use it. We are aware that everyone loves this skill but it was too strong and easily spammable.

Changes will be applied to several minions and we will give you more details soon. We welcome questions about these changes and any feedback on our devblog!

Devblog #3. New minions, jealous Bride and upcoming update.

In our previous devblog we introduced you to the Dwarven Floor and the many new enemies within, which are certain to oppose Iratus in his quest for vengeance and destruction. This time, we would like to show you a few new minions that were created by our exasperated necromancer. Well... they were really designed by our Lead Artist. At the moment we are working on their abilities and animations and we hope to update you on the result in our future devblogs!



Ghoul

A ghoul is a surprisingly proud predator, seeing themselves as the apex on the food chain. Stronger, faster and sleeker than any mortal or undead, they have the attitude of particularly lazy cats, wanting the world to revolve around them. In the end, only the threat of utter destruction can make them remember their place as servants of Iratus.



Bone Golem

A bone golem is actually a compromise. Normally it is not possible to craft an undead such as this without an equally large body to serve as the foundation (and there are precious few giants around). Only Iratus discovered a way around this limitation: the golem is made of several bodies, held together by the forces of decay and entropy, constantly crumbling and regenerating to maintain its form. Living in a constant cycle, these creatures would make for interesting subjects of philosophical study, were they not far more effective on the battlefield.

Work process

We're still working hard to bring you new updates, which will include bug fixes and fresh content.

As you know, the Bride of Iratus is hysterically jealous and won’t let anyone get close to her beloved lord. Our archer will receive a feature which increase her accuracy against female enemies.

Furthermore, the Shade will get its own rework in order to diversify its tactical applications. We would like to make this minion more interesting for our players. For example, the Shade will now move enemies when using his skill “Dark Light”.



If you played the alpha or watched the streams, you’ve probably noticed that the Heavy Firethrower causes a lot of pain, especially when he begins the fight in the first position. Don't worry, it won't happen again! Our apologies :)



Following our players' requests we are also going to add the ability to skip your turn, to hopefully diversify your tactical arsenal. In an upcoming update will add a “Wait” button that will allow your minion to move in the end of the initiative que.



We made tooltips to show hit chance and critical damage on a particular enemy. You will be able to turn tooltips on and off in the settings menu.



Finally, our Save Menu has become more convenient.



These are the main changes to date. Our work is ongoing and we will give you more details for you in a week. We are happy to answer any questions you might have!

Devblog #2. Progress report and a few things about Dwarves.

Now, to continue down the road from Devblog #1, we will tell you a bit about the progress we've made and what we'll be working on next. Last week we've implemented a small balance patch. Those of you who have alpha-access might have noticed the changes but we would like to discuss them in more detail.

In addition, we continue to work on the Dwarven Floor. There you’ll meet some already familiar enemies: Berserker, Musketeer and Heavy Firethrower but also the previously announced Oracle and Hammerer. We are currently working to add a new enemy and a new boss to the game, presented below.



Alchemist

The Alchemists of the guild are the chief authority in dwarven society and preside over the mining operations beneath the castle, where they are given permission to do as they please by the humans above. Once they realized the problem posed by the necromancer, they have stepped in to deal with the problem personally, lest the rise of Iratus be blamed on them and the humans use this opportunity to renegotiate the terms of their agreement. It also provides them with the welcome opportunity to test some of their more dangerous concoctions on whole horde of subjects.



Treasurer

One of the few remaining members of the dwarven aristocracy, a true dwarven blue-blood. It certainly does not make him any more virtuous than his brethren but he more than makes up for it with his vast amount of wealth. The alchemists guild does not much like the remaining nobles, seeing as they represent the legacy of the former power but as long as they can get them to dance to their tune, they are allowed to keep their estates. In turn, the nobles benefit too, allegiance to the alchemists guild brings with it untold riches and gold is a wonderful motivator, even (or maybe especially) for the richest dwarf.



Update

Last week's patch was focused on optimization and balance.

First, we lowered the volume of the intro because so many Twitch streamers complained about it. We hear you! ;)

We’ve also added hotkeys to skill slots.



Bride of Iratus got a slight buff. Now she is taking 2 steps back when using her “Overwatch” skill and you can use it in any position (1-4).



In addition, her ultimate ability “Rose For a Lady” can also be used in any position (1-4). In this way we have wanted to make Bride of Iratus better suited to situations where you only have got 2 minions alive in your party, or even only her.



Our Head Hunter has also been rather underused due to his low accuracy and random attacks. But, trust us, he is not that bad, he simply has no head! Therefore, we increased the damage of Head Hunter’s abilities. For example, the damage of the "Contract" skill is raised from 150% to 175%. So, if he hits, your enemies will feel it!



Work process

At the moment we continue to work on new and already existing content. For example, we remodeled the main menu and profile system;[



while also adding animation for burning units during battle.



More improvements have been made to the map generator in order to diversifying possible routes and evenly distribute enemies and events.

Kickstarter campaign goes live on May 22nd



Greetings Friends!



In less than six days, we will be launching the Iratus: Lord of the Dead Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $20,000. The campaign goes live on May 22nd, so save the date!

Hey all,

First, we want to thank you so much for all the support you have given us so far, it has been truly amazing. Second, we wanted to share the news that we are heading to Kickstarter on May 2nd!
We are taking to Kickstarter to finish our project off, we have the game almost completely funded but need an extra $10,000 to polish it up and perhaps add some extra content.
