This updates includes the Torpedo Room which is accessed by the hatch on the floor of the control room. From the torpedo room you’ll be able to manually load the torpedoes much quicker than the previous automatic reloading routine.
All 4 torpedo tubes can be manually reloaded in the minimum room scale space of 2m x 1.5m, this was a challenge as we wanted the torpedoes to be large and imposing and also have enough room to fully open and close all 4 torpedo tube doors.
Once the torpedoes are in position, you have to manually push them in with your hands, we scale the movement, use a bit of inertia and use haptics to make the torpedoes feel like heavy objects. The faster you work, the faster you can reload the torpedo. You can even use two hands to load two torpedoes at once.
There is a torpedo loading assist that is enabled by default in single player and disabled by default in multiplayer, this will load the torpedoes at the same speed as they did before the update. If you go into the torpedo room with the assist on, you can watch the torpedoes loading themselves, but you can also interrupt the process and load the torpedoes manually.
We did experiment with using alternative mechanisms for moving the torpedo such as a hand crank and chain pulling but the additional space required for these components to operate was too cramped within the minimum room scale space.
Don’t forget to lock the hatch before you flood the torpedo tube, or you’ll end up flooding the whole room!
We’re looking forward to people playing this and giving feedback.
