Emperors 2.35

It's been a while since the last update. The main concern was about our irremovable Emperor. 121 cells under his reign... 61 won battles to get this achievement... so much work.

Thereby the Emperors Map has been reduced to only seven cells. Worst case scenario you will have to win 4 battles against other Kings in order to be the new emperor.

This new mechanism should energize your quest thanks to a more accessible challenge.
Hail to the forthcoming Emperors!

Update 2.33 (april 2018)

- Introducing the long waited "hard mode" for solo players.
- A couple of new adjustments with the online map to help the latest players which were somehow stuck against over-optimized battles ^^

The Emperors Update (2.32)

60 days since release... 48,396,103 units killed... our King contested 231 times... It's time to expand the battlefield!

A dedicated map is now available to all the players which have gathered the 5 banners. This time, you'll fight to become the Emperor. But rules are a little different with the Royal Realm: you can now own as many map positions as you want... so will you expand your territory or cut your enemies down?

60 days... and 10 updates!

Thanks to your feedback a lot of improvements have been made so far. In case you missed it, here are the most important changes:

New features

  • Royal realm available for Kings.
  • Replay mode: you can watch your last battle.
  • New unit: Archers.
  • Steam Achievements.

Units AI

  • Improved idle iubes self management.
  • Improved AI behaviors (knowledges & resource sharing).
  • New automatic villagers mood switching.
  • Improved units memory (back to previous assigment).
  • Agressive stance visible on villagers.

Online Battles System

  • More accurate battle ghosting.
  • Rebalanced map distribution.
  • Position taken at 98% domination.
  • Improved map difficulty curve.

Helpers

  • Simplified and apparent tech tree.
  • Visible effect range (tower, outpost, granary, mill, and totem)
  • Gold resource more visible.
  • Remaining wood displayed during lumbering.
  • Food usage displayed on spawned units.
  • More distinctive hud colours for soldiers.

Debug & Interface

  • Keyboard reconfiguration.
  • Window mode.
  • Mouse wheel pitfall fixed.
  • Last king/emperor duration visible on main menu.
  • FSAAx0 enabled.

Update 2.27 - Clever cubes.

All units are independant AIs. It means for example that each iube need to actually see a tree around to get wood (there is no central mind telling them where trees are located on the map). For this reason, "not close enough" resources can sometimes lead to a complete disorganization... don't you hate those wandering iubes?

Four new behaviors have been added to prevent this exasperating dilution:

Water: because we all know where water is... if your iubes need water without seeing this resource nearby, they will go straight to the map's border.

Wood: because this is teamwork... if there isn't wood around anymore, the first iube to discover a closer tree will spread the information to the construction crew.

Gold: because we can assume where gold is... if the iubes need gold without any in sight... they will go wandering around the "gold foundry" (obviously if you decide to build a gold foundry far away from gold... this is another kind of issue).

Mood: the decision mechanism for non-soldier units to switch between working / defensive / aggresive stance has been upgraded. Just... watch & enjoy :)

Patchnote 2.24

Changes...

  • Effect Radius: when setting a new building (tower, outpost, granary, mill, or totem) it'll display its effect radius.
  • Mill/Granary radius have been shortened (easier to play for non-optimized farms, but won't change anything for most players)
  • Kings : you'll see a tiny King flag even if you've lost it (to remember you were king, once...)
  • Help/Controls: displays mouse usage (wasn't always obvious)
  • Online Battles: some improvements have been made to more "logically" replay strategies. Battles might become a little harder!

Debug...

  • Sometime there was an unkown opponent name '??' during the 1-2 first minutes of a battle.
  • Anti aliasing: FSAAx0 runs now properly (was locked on FSAAx2 min).
  • Multi monitor selection: will display a "will take effect on next start" rather than restarting game.

As asked by players...

  • Configuration/Keyboard: you can redefine controls (left handed, ...). Yay!
  • Windowed mode: real window, movable and resizable. Not applicable for multi screen owners (odd DX issue to fix)

Kings...

  • Total domination duration available on iubes home page. http://codrer.com/iubes/kings
  • But tier-2 realm will be ready quite soon. New rules, new challenge!

Real time battles... ?

  • You'll discover a "VOTE" page on game menu. Please do so:)

Last words...

  • Happy new year 2018!
  • And just a reminder: I'd LOVE it if you left a review. That would just be great. Thanks!

Tutotial

Don't miss this nice tutorial from Diesle. A very interesting take on the first two first minutes of a battle: you'll learn how to deal with this no-micro-management system, and above all to avoid rookie mistakes!

Patchnote 2.22

Based on your feedbacks, this update will improve your experience and overall progression. Thanks for your suggestions. More to come very soon!

Tech tree

  • To avoid painful and tragic mistakes, constructions are disabled until prerequisites are fulfilled (e.g. you won't be allowed to start a mill without having a stone pit somewhere).
  • The nature of the tech tree will be clearer to everyone (left to right).
  • Constructions will be grayed the same way when maximum cap is reached.
  • Minor change: basic constructions (farm, tower, granary, stone pit) need at least one house. This is to prevent you from launching farms at the very beginning while there is only 5 iubes.
  • For the same reason, the upgraded farms ("fields") now require a mill to be achieved.
  • Experienced users: an option will soon be added to let you unlock all constructions at once (as it was before because yes, sometime seconds matter).

Units AI

  • You building units will be a little less disrupted when attacked. They will eventually come back.
  • More important: the focus system has been made easier while AI enhanced. It was a real pain for not-over-experienced players.
  • To sumarize, your idles iubes will come by themselves to give a precious help for long and/or halted constructions.
  • This will have a serious impact on gameplay, as well for novices and kings.
  • It doesn't mean that you don't have to optimize this specific point anymore, but rather that the gap between players will be thiner (more reasonable)

Helpers

  • Mouse wheel doesn't change your selection outside of the construction menu anymore. There is only two ways left: classic menu mode, and shortcuts. This 3rd way was more dangerous than convenient.
  • The same way that collected food is displayed on farms, wood resources are now displayed on trees. It'll help you to learn that each tree carry 60 units of wood (hence 1 tower = almost 6 trees)
  • Again, food usage will be displayed during your soldiers' training. Might be helpful to realize where this precious resource is actually spent.
  • Finally, the warriors counter will be set RED when zero. Because except on very specific cases, you need to spawn warriors!

Gold

  • The gold resource is now clearly visible. That's the good news.
  • The bad news is that there is way less available gold spots. Take very care of that, on rare occasions it may result on a death fight to control the only spot...

99%

  • And last but not least... victory is now proclaimed at 99% - you won't have to wait for those three last rambling iubes anymore!

Kings

  • The last word for the 9 of you who have already owned the King banner: well done but this is far from the end of your quest. New challenges are coming (even before Tier-2).

HINTS & ADVICES I

New players: don't be fooled, iUBES is not as easy as it looks. There's a lot to understand and learn if you want to reach effective setups. Be focused, don't rush anything and always watch what's going on.

  • Between experienced players a standard battle longs 20 minutes on average. If you're stuck, try something different.
  • Don't forget there is always at least two front lines in this world.
  • Take a very good care of your totems and protect them to preserve their bonus.
  • The last totem can be an impressive weapon when correctly undestood.
  • Hold the SHIFT key when setting farms, it'll change your life!
  • Even the placement of basic houses can improve a lot of things.
  • Don't start too many simultaneous constructions if you're not experienced enough!
  • Also, do not trap too many of your iubes on towers...
  • Building on dangerous area can lead to your iubes dilution if they are under attack. Protect the area first!
  • The iubes are slower in water... use rivers at your advantage when setting your defense.
  • The armory can do sooo much than just upgrading your units.
  • Knights aren't simply upgraded warriors, they have their own purpose.
  • Think about gold before you need it!
  • And think about your barracks even before...

Tier-1 / Update 2.21

iUBES:2 is about to be released. As a competitive strategy game, its difficulty level will follow your learning curve:

  • Upon release, you're bound to fight mostly against unexperienced players, making your quest not that difficult...
  • Gradually, while becoming more skilled, players are going to create very effective setups and highly agressive spots.
  • Step by step, the quest for the king's flag will grow harder and harder...

Therefore in the forthcoming weeks - as soon as there will be enough "king" players - the more skilled of you will be prompted to leave the beginners map to pursue their adventure on the tier-2 world, while giving some space for a new batch of rookies! But we'll talk about this later...
For now, it's time to start the war and learn the basics!

add/ This update also fixe some interface issues with 4:3 screen users.
