Hi guys!
We heard many of you saying that the dialog boxes could get a little annoying when you had to replay a level many times, so we worked to fix that!
Version 1.9.5.5:
- All the Levels X in the game now skip the starting dialog boxes after you die once. If you win or play another level, the chat will reappear so it's not gone for ever!
- The fire things going out of the oil barrels in the Monkey Gong world now last very little on ground, so they don't distract you. They already didn't do any damage while on ground but their presence was kinda annoying.
- Added a lightning sound to every level that has the clono-rain in it so that it anticipates you the incoming threat.
- Improved the Arcade Gun charge sounds.
Hope you enjoy it and keep on killing those clonocells!
Big "Dash and Sound" update!
Hi folks!
It's been a week since our last update. Our sound designer worked very hard to improve lots of sounds and normalize the volume of each and every sound effect so that it could be appreciated on the right volume level compared to the others and the music!
Version 1.9.5:
- The DASH was completely revamped!
- Now you can time the duration of the dash, you can dash for a milisecond or for as long as you keep the button pressed, with a maximum distance of course.
- The dashing can last longer than before! The maximum distance was increased from the standard distance it had before so now you can slide longer and catch up the foes with more dexterity.
- Dashing in the Snow Sises world now causes one to slideslip! You can no longer exploit the dash in this levels, i'm sorry guys! :P
- Overall, dashing is more powerful now, but it requires more skill to master than before.
- Half of the sounds were reworked, some more, some less, and all of them got their volume slightly changed.
- Some new sounds were added :)
We are excited to hear what you think about the new dash!
Patch 3
Hi again! That was short! hehe
Version 1.9.4.2:
This is a very small update.
- Configured the tutorial sign to only show the joystick button if you have the joystick connected, and the key if you don't have it connected.
- Fixed the Blockit's pieces that could not be damaged if they were very near the top of the screen.
- Some changes to sound effects.
Second patch on!
Hi folks! This time the update is bigger with a lot of little changes to make things look and sound better, and some minor bug fixes.
Version 1.9.4:
- Fixed a minor conflict between the ClearData and SteamCloud. If you cleared the data and reloaded the game immediately, SteamCloud wouldn't be cleared.
- Items and PowerUp boxes last longer before disappearing!
- Special green Blockit's pieces now emit green particles when destroyed by invulnerability.
- Videos now use the loudest volume between music and sfx.
- Improved the visuals and animation of the Level X sign!
- Easy Mode: a little easier
- ClonoBoss: a little harder
- Fixed a minor mistake across languages in the Difficulty Pop Up.
- Fixed some sounds that would play twice like Pillman's pills, the Green bars in Blockits and a sound in the ClonoBoss.
- Improved the sounds of the Kung-Fu Temple jars.
First patch on!
First day! It was a long day and some messages arrived telling us about some little bugs so we worked to fix them.
- We fixed a bug that wouldn't show the leaderboards if you didn't have an score uploaded.
- We fixed some buttons in the Keyboard Pop Up that could disappear from time to time.
- We added a joystick_config.txt in the data folder for those who want to fully customize the joystick buttons.
Thanks for all the feedback, it is really appreciated!
JUANITO ARCADE MAYHEM now available!
One week 'til launch!
So, there's a bit under a week left until launch. Definitely some interesting times. There's little left to do, but we're still giving it our best =)
What are we working on?
Levels X are all done!
Each world now has one final level X that works a bit of a "victory lap", making use of each world's mechanics. It also was the perfect chance to have the characters from every arcade game make an appearance, which is always fun =) They're a good challenge, and amazing to look at!
Introducing Co-Op Mode!
You can now have a friend join you on your couch and hand them an extre controller so they can play as Gluk, Juanito's bipolar alien mentor. Now isn't that a bit of unexpected fun? ;)
New animations!
Juanito's now finally in HD! FINALLY! The whole game now looks absolutely amazing, and we hope it does the rest of the game justice! It can now make full use of the biggest screen in your house =)
It's amazing to see how far Juanito has come!
Love you, guys!
Got distracted watching the E3 conferences =P
Oh, man, every week is just filled with excitement over here! We're certainly getting a 'lil bit haunted by "feature creep", but it's all a matter of keeping our minds together ;)
What are we working on?
Introducing Level X: Each world now has one final level that makes use of new mechanics, taking something that was initially fun and making it absolutely amazing! Since each world is based on a different classic videogame, every final level now needs to reflect that. All of them are already designed, and most are indeed implemented. We're gonna try to play them pretty close to the vest, but we definitely want to include them in the launch trailer =)
We got a bit distracted watching E3: Not gonna lie, watching the conferences on the main projector was a bit like watching a football match. We were all screaming, throwing plushies, it was pure fun. But, now that's over, so back to work we go.
New animations!: We have an absolute beast working on animating Juanito. He's sitting right next to me atm, and watching him go is just amazing! Can't wait for you guys to see what the rest of the game looks like!
These are, indeed, exciting times!
Love you, guys!
Quick update, 8 weeks 'til launch
Quick update. Most of the team is feeling a bit under the weather at the moment. It's almost winter over here, so it's to be expected, really. Still, our lead programmer spent the whole week wearing a mask covering his mouth, and that we did not expect, really =P
But we're still making progress! Mostly, it's just touch-ups, but nevertheless we figured we'd show you a bit.
Here's a little "before-and-after" of the clonocells:
I know!
Making them color-coded means that the different types of enemies are now easier to read while playing ;)
And here's a quick glance at some of the weapons in action!
Anyway, this week we're mostly working on polishing the script. Some of the dialogues made it difficult to understand what was going on, and we'd like to get that solved sooner rather than later =)
Keep being awesome, guys!
Getting closer to release!
So, here we are. It's been a pretty long journey, but we're finally coming to Steam, ready to face the 2 final months before releasing Juanito Arcade Mayhem to the general public.
But we know what you're wondering right now.
What are we working on?
- We're redrawing like half the animations: a couple of the animations still remain from earlier versions, and they're not really a reflection of what we can achieve at the moment. We figured we had better put our best foot forward, which means dusting some old files and working on them again.
- Better backgrounds: since the game is pretty dynamic, we thought the artwork might as well be consistent. So we're reworking them, hoping that they'll do the rest of the game justice. That part's pretty fun, cause it involves playing older games looking for references.
- That damn difficulty curve!: we once had our minds made up that Juanito should reflect what hardcore player want in terms of difficulty. But since it was super hard, we ended up changing it so that anyone could play it through on their first try. Now we're working on a bit of a middle ground. Don't get us wrong, it's still a real challenge, but that involves messing with how the difficulty climbs as you get further into the game. Right now, we're trying to find a sweet spot por the first several levels ;)
And that's mostly it! Exciting times, to say the least. We hope to deliver the game we pictured so many years ago, but making use of our skills today =)
