Five Years of Just Shapes & Beats?!

Hey Everyone!

That's right, today marks 5 years since the launch of Just Shapes & Beats. So much has changed since then, and yet were we are, and here you are, and we're so appreciative for that.



Now of course we know what you really want. It would be hard not to, since every single tweet, post, message, and image has been followed by at least one person asking about updates.

We don't like even slightly announcing things until we're really ready to talk about them, that's just how we roll as a studio. We know that'll be annoying for some, but it's important to us to work like that, so we hope you understand.

So on this day of celebration, our beloved Lachhh had some words to share with the fans of the game in a tweet thread:

Ahoy, long time no post!

We finally got around to getting the game working tip top on the Steamdeck, so we figured we'd fix a few bugs while we at it; probably introduce some new ones too, this is the way.

Lost Chapter + Patch 1.6.30

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER



The once lost to time chapter has now been found, experience the story as it was meant to be told through five brand new tracks including a new boss battle:

- F-777 - Airborne Robots
- Kommisar - Last Tile 海底撈月
- Shirobon - Born Survivor
- MDK - Interlaced (JS&B EXCLUSIVE)
- Shirobon - Spider Dance (Remix)

You can play this new chapter once you have completed the Story mode, and if you've already done that, well, it's somewhere in there, I'm sure you can figure it out.

These tracks can also now be found in the wild in both of their forms in Challenge runs and in Playlist/Party mode once completed in the Story Mode.

Yeah it's been a few months since the actual Lost Chapter update, does seem like I forgot to hit submit after saving this, technology is hard my dudes.

Anyway, here's the release notes for the mostest currentest bestest build that was launched in the wild today, its a lot of under the hood improvements and a couple of fixes to the recently-ish introduced stages. Also below it is the changelog for the previous update!

Smallish update for y'all today. Nothing too fancy on your end, but a lotta things behind the hood.

Of note: you can now play with a single hand and we did a major overhaul of the photosensitive mode.

Also, Italian and Spanish fans rejoice, we translated the like, 100 words we had to your native language; let us know if there's any problem with it!

People have been asking when the new mixtape would be, welp, the new mixtape should be out around half an hour ago EYOOOOO.

This new update contains tracks from some of our favorite collaborators, and from two new comers:

This update also marks our 2nd anniversary, who could have foreseen that a little game about shapes and beats would still be around after two ding danged years. Not us, but we're insanely happy that you all are still enjoying our antics, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this all worth it!

But yeah, it's Sunday and we got stuff to do, so I'll drop all the mushy feely words and just let y'all enjoy the new tracks, hope you like them, because I can't get 'em out of my head now.

Our buddies over at Yacht Club Games are releasing a bunch of new Shovel Knight things so we thought "hey what if we tried to do Shovel Knight tracks for Just Shapes & Beats, that could be raaaaad." and so we did.

These new tracks are *exclusive* remixes from some of our favorite composers, and are based on the blue knight and his nemeses... nemesii?.. nemesiseses?... based on Plague Knight, Specter Knight and King Knight!

It's been a blast to work with such iconic music, we're HUGE fans at the studio... as in we like Shovel Knight a lot... not that we're like... huge, I mean I work out but I wouldn't... where was I going with this...

As per tradition, we just pushed a small patch that fixed a few things, and broke others, as we do. Here's the full list, if that's your thing.

  • Fixed issue where faster refresh rates monitor could not use Vsync, and accelerated the animations.
  • Added a ‘vsync’ option in the settings, enabled by default.
  • Fixed issue in Strike the Earth (Hardcore) where some squares were missing from rotating lines
  • Fixed issue with a random circle appearing in La Danse Macabre (Normal)

We're super happy to announce that our Mixtape #2, "Just Shovels & Knights" is coming right into your eyeballs and eardrums for freeeeee next week! For those who haven't been following the things we do, it will be a cross event between the blue shovel person and his band of merry antagonists, well, in the ways of music, not like, the characters themselves... you know dang well what I meant.

I'll go in more deets on launch day, but yeah, the new tracks are ab-so-lu-tely insane, they are classics from Shovel Knight's Jake Kaufman, but remixed by JSB contributing artists, I'm crazy hyped for y'all to hear them!

That accidentally ties in pretty nicely with the Steam Awards announcement from yesterday, but I'll play this like it was planned all along. If you think we've been doing a good job at doing the things we do, it would be AWESOME of you if you'd nominate us for Labor of Love!
