Kaiju Wars releases tomorrow, here's an overview of the game!
Kaiju Wars is releasing on Steam tomorrow!
Welcome Mayors, new and old! We thought it would be fun to breakdown the gameplay of Kaiju Wars for everyone that's new here, and refresh everyone that has been patiently waiting for the game the last couple years.
Let's jump right in!
Gameplay
Phases
There are multiple phases in a turn in Kaiju Wars. In the Economy phase you’ll receive money and science progress from a variety of buildings (as long as they are still standing!)
The Military phase is where you’ll be taking all your actions. You can build buildings, deploy units on your different structures, use Project Cards (more on them below), and move/attack with your units.
The Kaiju phase is when the monsters will move and use their special abilities.
Kaiju
Kaiju are predictable; they will always target the closest building. The path they will take varies from situation to situation, and is demonstrated by percentages for each path.
Each kaiju has a variety of powerful abilities. Be mindful of each kaiju’s special attacks when you approach with your units, or you don’t stand a chance!
Project Cards and Researchers
Project Cards are special effects you can use as you see fit on your turn! Unlock more powerful cards as you progress through the campaign, and build your deck to suit your strategy.
You’ll encounter helpful Researchers during the campaign who will be able to aid you against the kaiju with the power of SCIENCE. They offer powerful passive abilities when brought into a mission.
Win Conditions
Kaiju can’t be killed, they can only be slowed down and forced to fall back. To win a mission:
Pepper the kaiju with attacks to drop their health to zero
OR reach the required number of Science Breakthroughs
Game Modes and Features
Campaign
Kaiju Wars has a 6 act story campaign with 60+ unique missions.
Weekly Challenges
For even more variety, you’ll be able to compete each week for top leaderboard score in our Weekly Challenge missions. The more science Breakthroughs you achieve (more on those below), the higher your score!
Local Multiplayer
In select missions we've included a bonus local multiplayer mode! One player controls the Humans, the other controls the Kaiju. This mode also works with Steam Remote Play.
Map Editor
You can create your own missions with our robust Map Editor and then upload it to Steam Workshop to challenge other players around the world! Players can select your mission in our Custom Missions menu and play instantly.
Twitch Integration
We have Twitch Integration! Twitch viewers can type commands into chat to have comments appear during certain in-game events. We fully expect hilarity and chaos to ensue.
