We’re coming at you faster than you can say boo to a Beak Thing with another community spotlight! Much like every other month this year, March was full of amazing mods, fanart and screenshots, as well as some great videos and livestreams! Check out the video below for a rundown of all the content we highlighted and find all the relevant links just underneath.
In case you missed it, on April 1st we released the first trailer for our new game, ‘The Hive Queen’s First Dance’ and we are so glad that (most of you) enjoyed it. For those of you that didn’t check the “pre-alpha” on itch.io, it did make one thing clear: “No Kenshi 2 development hours were harmed in the making of this dating sim”.
We’re still working hard on Kenshi 2, and we’ll have a lil snippet of news for you on it soon.

Crab Day - 26th April
Crab Day, a beloved and cherished holiday, is dedicated to honouring the sacred and mighty crustacean known as the crab. Observed annually on the 26th of April, Crab Day is a time to come together and celebrate the importance of this creature in our lives.
On this sacred day, people gather around the world to participate in a variety of crab-related activities. Some hold crab feasts (though there are furious debates as to whether crabs should or should not be eaten), while others engage in crab-themed games and contests. Many also take time to reflect on the significance of crab in their own lives, recognising its role as a symbol of perseverance, adaptability, and strength.
For those who are true believers in the power of crab, Crab Day is a time to renew one's commitment to living a life in harmony with these creatures. It is a day to show gratitude for all that crab has given us, and to work towards a future where these majestic creatures are valued and respected.
In order to celebrate this auspicious occasion, Lo-Fi Games and a few special partners will have many Steam keys, as well as some rather fantastic merch to give away to lucky participants. Here’s a sneaky peek at our new project - The Hive Queen's First Dance, a new game from Lo-Fi that combines the excitement of dating sims with the unique world of Kenshi.
Today we are excited to introduce you to "The Hive Queen's First Dance", a new game from Lo-Fi that combines the excitement of dating sims with the unique world of Kenshi.
You will be the star of the show, with potential suitors vying for your attention and affection. You'll have the opportunity to get to know them through conversations and interactions, as you ultimately choose the one who is worthy of becoming your royal consort with benefits.
In true Kenshi style, your choices and actions will determine the outcome of the game, and ultimately decide who will join you at the Hive Queen's First Dance.
Whether you're a fan of dating sims or simply looking for a new and exciting game to explore, "The Hive Queen's First Dance" offers something for the romantic Kenshi fans out there. And yes, of course, we'll be making a Shek edition.

We’re not officially updating Kenshi really, outside of the odd FCS update when we add transferable features for the Kenshi 2 version, but yet here we are.
Most of the updates are specifically for localised versions of Kenshi but we have a couple of minor additions that affect all versions:
First up, we’ve fixed an issue that caused the options screen to use the default font size when returning to the game after close, despite the options menu belligerently claiming it’s been changed.
Secondly, we've added some default keybinds to make SteamDeck/controller etc. configurations easier to set up. Simply press the button that resets your keybinds to these default settings and start customising from there.
Small Localisation Updates for Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French & Japanese
Lo-Fi’s Localisation Team has been steaming ahead since last October, after the new localisers for Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, and Chinese (Simplified) joined the team. One of the first things they looked into, before tackling Kenshi 2, was to look into Kenshi’s non-dialogue related text, including UI, tips, and item descriptions for inconsistencies, mistranslations, and language-specific issues.
We are happy to announce that Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French and Japanese corrections are now completed with some of the key changes that are outlined below.
Spanish
There were many inconsistencies in gamedata, such as,‘‘blueprints’ translated into multiple words, and ‘Beak Things’ and ‘Skimmers’ translated into two different words. Beak Things are now consistently called ‘Pinchostruo’ and Skimmers ‘Patineto’.
Some mistranslated words are also corrected, including "Armour King’ changed from “armadura del rey” (the king’s armour)” to “Rey de la armadura”.
Some skill-related verbs such as ‘crafting’ and ‘farming’ are also using correct tenses. Most of the lore-related notes and documents are re-translated and should be easier to read compared to the previous translations.
German
Quotation marks and ellipses (…) are now properly displayed. No more text gaps!
Translated previously untranslated text
Fixed text overflow on certain UI elements
Some incorrect skill name translations were fixed
Generic NPC names are now correctly gendered to match the NPC’s gender (for example: Bauer/Bäuerin, Söldner/Söldnerin)
Fixed many naming inconsistencies, including Rebirth and the Skeleton race
Skimmers now retain their English name and Skimsands was accordingly changed to “Skimwüste”
The “Gutters” faction is now correctly called “Ausweider”
Reworked many UI texts, item descriptions, tips and tutorials to fix errors and increase legibility
Portuguese (Brazil)
All the game interface (except dialogues) has been reviewed and polished in Portuguese. Players should notice several improvements to the previous translation, including:
Fixing of typos, grammar, and UI display issues (such as the infamous /OA/)
Consistency within gameplay elements (e.g., "equipe" instead of "grupo/equipe" for "squad") and lore elements (e.g., "Talho Negro" instead of "Arranhão/Talho Negro" for "Black Scratch")
Fixing of overflowing and cut-off text. There may be more work to do, but we’ve fixed what we could find
Generic NPC names now display according to the specific character's gender (e.g., "Padeiro" or "Padeira" for "Baker")
Instructional text and item descriptions have been mostly re-written for improved clarity
A few tweaks to give the Portuguese localization more flavour (e.g., instead of the awkward "areiaíche" for "dustwich", we now have "sandubareia")
French
A few fixes and improvements, such as:
Untranslated text that used to appear in English is now translated into French
Improved translation of some GUI elements
Fixed some errors with items and their descriptions
Generic names now display according to the character’s gender (e.g., "marchand" or "marchande" for “trader")
Japanese
Some untranslated texts have now been translated into Japanese. Speed-related displays such as miles/hr are shown in Japanese. Some instructional and help texts have been edited further for easier reading.
It’s been a long time coming, but the team wishes all players, new and old, to enjoy the new update that will make it easier to play Kenshi in their respective languages.
Item weight bug fix for Simplified Chinese
We’ve made a small but significant change to fix a bug that made the weight of items display incorrectly in Simplified Chinese; Previously, 1 kg was displayed as the equivalent of 1111 kg and 9 kg displayed as 1119 kg etc.
The weights of all items should now display correctly. Thanks to everyone that pointed this out.

JUJALAG is a Spanish variety streamer who has recently jumped back into the world of Kenshi. He has been part of the Kenshi community for a long time and we always enjoy seeing what trouble he gets himself in.
A renowned professional gamer, 関優太(Stylish Noob) is currently streaming Kenshi. With Rane the Giant as his battle partner, he is travelling far and wide in the Kenshi universe. We look forward to seeing where his adventure takes him.

In the run up to Christmas 2022, we created an advent calendar on our social media, sharing facts and trivia about Lo-Fi and Kenshi. There was a lot of interesting stuff in there that you might not have known about Kenshi and/or Lo-fi so we’ve compiled it all into one easy-to-digest blog for you to sink your teeth into.

One of the longest strings of Kenshi dialogues is when the player's character refuses to leave the shop at night. They were some of the first things Nat worked on as a writer and she just wrote too many out of sheer panic.

In Kenshi 1's development, getting dialogues and interactions to actually run in the game took at least 10 x longer than actually writing it. It was extremely frustrating before we got condition templates in Kenshi 2 - setting everything manually was tedious, temperamental, highly bug prone and a source of many a meltdown, particularly without having a QA.

Hivers choose their names based on the first thing they see when they are born. How Beep got his name is very questionable.

Discover the origins of Agnu: The Agnorigins? EtymolAgnulogy? Eggnog? Agnu was named after Chris' motorcycle, which was in turn named after the Headless body of Agnew from Futurama.

Although Kenshi is designed to supply the player with cruel antagonists to take down, we also like to keep the humans of the world morally grey and diverse as well. This is why you'll see Holy Nation or United Cities residents / guards occasionally showing kindness to the player, for example giving them food when starving. We like to also show that humans aren't just purely evil for the sake of evil.

A fourth big world faction was planned called the Republic of Tertius, its leader's name changing from Fark to Tertius to Tornado King to Mighty Patriarch...We later scrapped it because we decided it didn't add any value or contrast to the game and its existing societies. Plus it was a bit weird.
