Kibbi Keeper

Kibbi Keeper VR Available Now for Free!

Kibbi Keeper VR is now available for free on Steam!

Kibbi Keeper VR is a charming experience for the Oculus Rift and Quest where you can interact and play with the kibbi in three mini-games themed on each of the kibbi elemental types.

If you're having trouble launching or playing the VR game, here are a few tips that might help:

  • The game supports only Oculus Rift and Quest headsets.
  • If you are playing on a Quest, use Oculus Link to put the system into PC VR mode. Kibbi Keeper VR is not a standalone Quest app.
  • Ensure you have Steam VR installed and running before you launch the game.
  • If you're having trouble getting your kibbi to go where you want (typically this looks like the kibbi standing there looking at you), make sure you have selected it first. There will be a glowing ring around the kibbi's feet when they have been selected and are listening to your instructions (pictured below). Aim your controller at your kibbi and squeeze either trigger button to select the kibbi. Then use the trigger again to point where you want the kibbi to go. This takes some trial and error to get used to, but once you get the hang of things, you'll love the experience.

Developer's Note:
Kibbi Keeper VR is an experimental release made primarily by two members of the student development team who worked on it in their spare time during the production of the main game. Because our priority was making sure the main game was bug free and launched on time, the VR port admittedly could probably have used more time. However, the experience is so positive that knew we wanted to share it with you as-is.

Speaking personally, when I was recording the raw gameplay for the Kibbi Keeper VR trailer, I found myself simply sitting on the floor and petting the VR kibbis. I forgot all about recording for a few minutes and just played with the creatures. I don't know how to describe it other than sitting in a pile of puppies. It was one of the best experiences I've had in VR.

Speaking on behalf of the team, we hope you get that kind of joy out of the game. With everything that is happening in the world today, I think we could use a bit of joy.

If you're interested in how the art style of Kibbi Keeper was developed, the team put together a free PDF book, The Art of Kibbi Keeper. In this 90-page book, you can see how the kibbi evolved over time, how the environments were made, and how the team developed Kibbi's unique art style. It's a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how the game was developed.
