Kilcount

Kilcount is now Free!

To the Future!

As of last night, Kilcount is now a free game! No strings attached! If you have the slightest notion that you might enjoy it, please enjoy a copy on the house! And don't worry- I haven't locked my favorite parts behind a DLC wall: there is no longer any kind of monetization attached to the game.

I'd like to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone who supported this project with their wallets. It means so much to me that you would take a chance on a title with no hype, no budget and no Adults-Only 18+ patch. I think the overwhelming support for indie developers is one of the absolute best things about Steam as a platform. Buy a couple more cheap passion projects this holiday season and I can guarantee you'll make some lonely dev's day brighter!

If you play Kilcount and end up liking it, I would love for you to leave a review!
If you play Kilcount and end up hating it, I would love for you to leave a review!

If you have any comments, concerns, questions, quibbles or vitriol, please feel free to post on the community discussion board or email me at "kilcountgame@gmail.com"

Stay Warm and Well-Fed,
Beatrice

Kilcount will become Free on November 9th, 2018!

Season's Greetings!

The weather is changing, the sweaters are coming out of the closets, the cocoa is coming out of the cupboard, and everyone knows what that means: it's time to stockpile games for the coming winter.

You would not believe what a year I've had! Developing Kilcount has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I want to extend my warmest thanks to everyone who supported the game, and especially to those who spent their hard-earned money on it. It didn't take very long for the game to recover its tiny development cost. I'm still shocked! This was my first attempt as a developer (and it shows!) and the positive reception has been very gratifying. I've come to the decision that breaking even is enough. I don't want to endlessly market this game, and I don't want to think of my bankbook when I think of this experience. So I'm cutting the cord and making it free.

What does this mean for current owners of Kilcount?
- Nothing changes! I sincerely appreciate your support and hope you enjoyed playing it. Supporting tiny indie games makes a huge difference, please keep doing that!

What does this mean for future owners of Kilcount?
- Everything changes! The game will be free from Friday, November 9th, 2018 until approximately the day of the heat death of the universe.

Will Kilcount feature microtransactions or monetization of any kind?
- Not now, not ever!

When the game has officially transitioned to Free-to-Play, I'll post a follow-up announcement. If you have any questions, concerns, comments or quibbles, please feel free to post on the discussion board or email me at "kilcountgame@gmail.com"

Good Health and Fortune to All,
Beatrice

Kilcount Version 1.04

As of now, version 1.04 of Kilcount is playable! I'd like to thank everyone who gave this game a shot through the Steam Summer Sale, and hope you found some measure of pleasure in it. It's really stunning to see this project out in the wild.

Version 1.04 Changes

Northrig Map - One common comment I received was that the ship is confusing to navigate. Well, I haven't changed that at all, but I added a usable map that can be accessed from the Northrig (the big common hall outside of where you start the game) !

Secrets - Added two new secrets, bringing the grand total up to zero. Please do not be on the lookout for two new rooms. They're very hard to find and probably don't exist in the first place.

General Fixes - Several issues from the last patch have been resolved. Nothing major, just silly mistakes that needed to be polished up.

That about covers it. If you find any additional bugs, have any suggestions, or otherwise want to contact me, please visit the Steam Community discussion page, or you can contact me directly at "kilcountgame@gmail.com"

All the best,

Beatrice

Kilcount Launch Version

As of now, the full launch version of Kilcount is playable! Please look forward to its official launch on June 15th. Note that if you have a pre-release version, any previous save may not be able to "catch up" on some of the features. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Version 1.01 Changes

"Social" Tab - Added a rolodex of sorts that contains information on everyone you've met on the ship! Easy to use to brush up on where each character is, and what they want from you.

Better Interactables - Smoothed out the rough edges on direction-based interaction with objects and people, as well as updated title cards, which can be dismissed with the arrow keys!

Light Tutorial - A sheet of paper in your room's treasure chest now gives you a brief rundown on how to access important functions, like audio and control options, as well as saving and accessing your inventory! None of these things are necessary to complete the game, but they may improve your experience.

Baseline Ending Rewrite - Thanks to the power of analytics, it has become apparent that a larger number of people than expected may be observing the baseline ending. As such, it has been rewritten to fit more in line with the rest of the 5 total endings.

Secrets - Added one new secret, bringing the grand total up to zero. Please do not be on the lookout for a new room, or the new audio track associated with it! They don't exist, I promise!

And that about covers it. I plan to monitor the Steam Community page closely after launch, so please feel free to voice your complaints or suggestions!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the testers who helped me fix and tweak the game, as well as every Steam Curator, reviewer and content creator who took an interest in this project.

All the best,

Beatrice
