King Arthur: Legion IX - A Brief Summary

Ave!

On the 9th of May, 2024, King Arthur: Legion IX will be released on Steam, which means there are only two days left. Before that date, we would like to give you a quick summary of the game, with helpful links to the more detailed blog posts about various features.

King Arthur: Legion IX is a dark fantasy tactical role-playing game that takes place in the universe of King Arthur: Knight's Tale. It tells the story of an undead Roman Legion, whose members traverse the Underworlds of Tartarus and end up in a strange Avalon, twisted by the mad nightmares of Arthur. See our latest trailer to get a feel for the atmosphere:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvRlHZv3Uw8

  • The protagonist of the game is Gaius Julius Mento, the tribune of the Ninth Legion, and he will be able to tackle various missions in a party of five combatants that could include the Flamen of Orcus, the Flamina of Vesta, the Praetorian, Sicarius, and the Centurion - you will get to know them better through dialogue and exploration.
  • As he travels Avalon searching for the lost members of the Legion, Gaius makes various decisions that will push him towards a morality stance. He could either embrace his demonic urges or he might regain his humanity. It's all up to you, the player, however! These decisions will drastically alter the narrative, including the endgame portion.
  • There is also the matter of establishing a flourishing Roman colony on Avalon: you will rebuild Nova Roma and set out to make it the centre of a potential Eternal Rome. This city will serve as your headquarters, here you can build and upgrade various buildings (like the Lararium) that will provide items, bonuses and titles for your characters. You should make preparations here between missions to ensure swift victory against all kinds of enemy types, for Avalon is full of dangerous mythical creatures and vicious opportunists. Not to mention, the Lord of Camelot is still around...

In essence, you will get a complete new story with a 30-hour campaign, a challenging endgame mode, multiple side events, arena fights, and the branching story also encourages players to go for an alternate playthrough. It is a standalone release at the starting price of $19.99, and while this game does not require owning and knowing King Arthur: Knight's Tale, returning players will certainly benefit from it (and can prepare for a little surprise at launch).

Eligible supporters of our original Kickstarter campaign will be receiving codes for Legion IX at release, make sure to check your e-mails! Also don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

And if you haven't done this yet, please wishlist the game, and make sure to check back when the date arrives!

Sneak Peek! - VLTIMATE SKILLS

Ave!

One of the new features introduced in King Arthur: Legion IX are ultimate abilities. We are giving you a sneak peek of two of these super powerful skills that may turn the tide of any battle!

  • Octavius Remus's Hadrian's Wall, and
  • Gaius Julius Mento's Hack and Slash

Beware, though!

  • Your whole party shares the resources needed to use these ultimate abilities, and you will have 6 different options, so choose wisely!

King Arthur: Legion IX is releasing May 9 on Steam for $19.99, and if you own King Arthur: Knight's Tale, be on the lookout for a little token of our gratitude when the new game launches!

Meet the Romans! - Praetorius

Ave!

We have finally revealed the release date of our upcoming tactical RPG, King Arthur: Legion IX, but we haven't unveiled everything about the game yet. Today we will be looking at a character that we did not mention so far, probably because he wouldn't want the fame and glory anyway. All he wants to do is serve eternally!

As the tribune of the Ninth Legion, Gaius Julius Mento is an important figure in the grand hierarchy of the soldiers under Emperor Sulla. While he is an excellent fighter, he was still given an unflinching bodyguard. This bodyguard is a loyal Roman soldier, Octavius Remus.

  • He is, in fact, a praetorian, an elite guard of military praetors. Despite his prowess, he won't try to steal the spotlight, that's just not in his character. In fact, he is a very enigmatic person, and undead legionary proudly bearing the weight of his role of a defender. He is loyal, as evidenced by the fact that he appears beside Gaius when he emerges from the Underworlds.
  • He wields a massive shield and utilizes skills around the theme of defense, such as Wall of Blades and Bulwark, but he is a fairly good melee fighter as well, capable of using his shield as a weapon (Shield Bash). When things get tough in the magical land of Avalon, you might want to turn towards a more defensive tactical approach until the balance shifts - the praetorian will be very useful in these moments.

It would mean a lot to us if you would put King Arthur: Legion IX on your wishlist before the release date (May 9th, 2024), and if you own King Arthur: Knight's Tale, be on the lookout for a little token of gratitude when the new game launches.

Prove Your Worth as a Tactician

Not Built in a Day

  • Build up and expand the city of Nova Roma. Make sure that your stronghold has the right facilities for your heroes that prepare them for different quests. But beware! Resources are scarce and you have to manage Nova Roma thoughtfully to keep it afloat.

Regain Your Humanity

Make sure to put King Arthur: Legion IX on your wishlist before launch. As for the base game, Knight's Tale has recently received the 2.0 overhaul and numerous improvements, so make sure to check it out if you haven't. Thank you for your support!

Onwards to Nova Roma!

King Arthur: Legion IX - Rebuilding Nova Roma

As he emerges from the depths of Tartarus, Gaius Julius Mento finds himself on Avalon. He soon finds traces of other Romans, but the colony they have established is now in ruins. Still, Nova Roma is a promising starting place for conquerors.

In King Arthur: Legion IX, Nova Roma will be your base of operations. A place you can call home, but also a place where you can improve your soldiers and issue various decrees. Here you can also take a look at the new Morality Chart's various bonuses, which will also list your decisions that have affected the values.

Like Camelot in King Arthur: Knight's Tale, Nova Roma is represented as a 3D model with individual buildings, opening up separate panels as you select them.

These buildings have various functions, and you can assign your soldiers to some of them to gain bonuses. Here's a quick breakdown of the various facilities:

  • War Council: Here you can assign a hero to gain title benefits, and issue one decree after each mission.
  • Enchanted Tower: You can create new Relic items here using Relic dust.
  • Training Ground: Here you can improve physical attributes of soldiers and appoint a Master of Arms.
  • Blacksmith: Dismantle items and upgrade your favorite equipment pieces here.
  • Lararium: You can place your collected Lares here, offering various bonuses. (Read more here.)
  • Merchant: Here you can purchase various consumable items, trinkets, and runes for your equipment.

By upgrading each building, you can open up new ways to use them, which gives you more fighting chance in this twisted island full of savages and sinister magical creatures.

You will soon be able to start your adventure and make plans for the grand dream of Eternal Rome. Please wishlist King Arthur: Legion IX on Steam, as the release is inching closer, with an exact date to be revealed soon.

Hero Spotlight - special Valentine's Day edition: Meet Sir Tristan

Knights!

This week, love is in the air. Allow us to tell the tale of Sir Tristan, whose name is almost synonymous with romantic love - thanks to the chivalric romance "Tristan and Isolde" as first written by poets like Thomas of Britain and Béroul in the 12th century. Well, as it happens, he also appears in King Arthur: Knight's Tale as an undead knight.

Tristan was known as the troubadour knight of the Round Table, and he was always brave, but often sentimental and likely to fight for lost causes. His personal tragedy was losing the love of his life, Lady Isolde - twice! Once in Britannia and then in Avalon, even if it seemed for a while that they finally found peace when they both ended up on the magical island. However, Lady Isolde became the enchantress of the Lady of the Lake and her servitude changed her entirely, making her a recluse, while Tristan went on daring adventures on Avalon to gain back her attention, deeply pained by her coldness and refusal to even acknowledge him.

He mostly blames the Lady of the Lake for this sudden change in her beloved, sometimes even suspecting some even darker presence behind all this.

After a series of glorious and daring adventures, the heartbroken Tristan was part of the knightly band of the chosen few from Avalon who were sent back for the dying, maimed King Arthur and brought him to Britannia on a ship. Upon arrival, they faced an otherworldly, terrible storm that struck down on their vessel and wrecked the ship on the shores of Whispering Cove. Tristan was among the survivors and witnessed the enchantresses of the Lady take away the king to a sacred location to revive him – but whatever happened there was not the end, but the beginning of the troubles.

As the unnatural tempest raged on, something not entirely human returned to the wreckage on the shore. It was King Arthur himself (or at least something that Tristan took for Arthur) as darkness incarnated. They fought and the Knight of Midnight struck down Tristan, who came back as a Lost One, a knight who died on the island of Avalon and was cursed to live forever.

Any story featuring Tristan could (but doesn’t have to) foreshadow his eventual demise – after all, he is a visionary, a knight with a sense of foreboding and doom. The details of the catastrophe will always be unclear, but Tristan knows deep in his heart that he was destined to suffer continuously, and the day he lost Isolde again was only the beginning of something even more terrible to come.
