Kingdom Two Crowns

Lost Islands, the new Challenge Island for Kingdom Two Crowns is out next week!

Monarchs,

We're delighted to present the new Challenge Island in just a week!

That's right, Lost Islands, the new Challenge Island for Kingdom Two Crowns, will be released on all platforms on January 23rd.

Land, ho! Step onto lands on which time rules over everything.

You can look forward to the following:

  • Once you embark on an island, you'll have up to 72 hours to complete it.
  • If completed before the next day, you'll have to wait until the clock ticks 00:00 before a new one is generated.
  • You can play this Challenge Island with any of the Kingdom Two Crowns settings.
  • That's right; you can now additionally play new and older challenges with the Norse Lands setting!
  • Lost Islands will support co-op.
  • It'll be released on all platforms on which you can currently play Kingdom Two Crowns.
  • Every day, a new island will be generated with certain random elements!
  • It's a free update!

We also received word on the new challenge goals, but our letter got lost overboard and had to be fished out. We'll get it dried off and legible for next week!

Lastly, we've spotted this fellow from afar; he looks mighty familiar; what's he doing on these islands?

'Till next week, onwards! đź‘‘

The Big Kingdom Challenge is over & we answer your Lost Islands questions!

Monarchs!

Thank you to those who jumped over to our Discord and participated in our Big Kingdom Challenge 2022! It was a fantastic event, with many knowledgeable Monarchs making it to the finals. Our winner has now been crowned, and extra shinies were handed to the finalists. We'd love to rerun it in 2023 and hope to see you there.

For now, though, the new year's bells have not yet rung, and the holidays' festivities have only just begun. So let's take this quiet moment to answer some of your hot questions about our new upcoming Challenge Island - Lost Islands!

  • What's the challenge on the island?
    Time…
  • When will it be released?
Lost Islands will be floating into your sights in late January!
  • Will it be random which DLC we play with it can we choose?
You can choose to play with any of the Kingdom Two Crowns DLC.
  • The biggest and probably going to be the most asked one, will it support multiplayer?
Lost Islands will support co-op. In fact… There may even be a co-op achievement to complete. 🤫
  • Will the special characteristics of each island be generated randomly or scripted?
Each new island will have certain aspects generated randomly, so pray to the RNG gods for good luck.
  • Do you need to have all DLC's or just the base game?
You can have none, all or something in between. :)
  • Will we be able to go left on the new challenge island or can we only run right?
    Left and right!
  • Will be released in all the platforms?
All platforms that you can currently play Kingdom Two Crowns on, yes!
  • It's going to be free or we need to buy it?
    It’s free!
  • Will the islands change every 12 hours 24 hours , every week, ect
There will be a new island every day, but we won’t be rushing you to complete it in 24 hours, but rather give you up to three days to wrap it up. If you complete the challenge sooner, you are of course free to take on the new challenge the very next day. We hope this will allow for a less stressful and fun experience.
  • Will this challenge island be shuffling between all four settings (Europe/Shogun/Dead Lands/Norse Lands) or will it be like when starting a new save in which you must choose which setting to play on.
You’ll choose which setting to play on.

A fun extra for y’all, with the release of Lost Islands, Norse Lands setting will be playable in all existing challenges so it’s a new way to play them.

Our most heartfelt thanks to you all for this last year; it's been an adventure, and we're glad you're here by our side.

Now, to 2023, onwards! đź‘‘

Have you ever wondered what happens to all the gems players deposit but never collect?

Well, our dear keeper has a little side hustle going on in Lost Islands, the new upcoming challenge island! Keep an eye out for shady dealings in the woods; our hooded friend has some real shiny gems for you... if you got enough coins to pay the price!

Lost Islands. A New Challenge Island for Kingdom Two Crowns

Monarchs!

We know you've been patiently awaiting the next challenge island, and our team of scouts has been scouring the lands for one worth your time.

And we've found one. Fight your way through the island, all while being wary of the toughest enemy of them all: the slow and steady ticking of the clock. The hands of time have no masters here.

Face a new challenge island every day, my Monarchs.

Onwards!

The Big Kingdom Challenge 2022

Monarchs, are you the biggest Kingdom fan of all time?

We want to test your resolve and steel your mettle as we ask you to join us and other fans for The Big Kingdom Challenge 2022, happening all next week over on our Discord: https://discord.gg/rawfury

Each day we'll send you on a new quest, and you'll receive points for your entries and answers. The crowned winner will receive loot that would make a Greed jealous.

So keep your eyes peeled and onwards! đź‘‘

p.s I received this random parchment this morn, sender unknown. Sadly the winter rains have left it smeared and faded. What I can make out seems to read, "keep your eyes on the horizon... lands lost.. time runs short...". What could this mean? I'll take some time to ponder it and return to you once its meaning is clear, my Monarch.

Kingdom Q&A Roundup!

Welcome Monarchs,

For those who were unable to attend, or those waiting for our words, hear ye! We bring you a little roundup of our Kingdom Q & A hosted on Discord in times past.

This question-and-answer session was joined by:

  • Gordon (Game Director)
  • Elisabeth (Producer)
  • Vlado (Programmer)
  • Mariela (Brand Manager)
  • Fiona (Community Manager)

And now we begin! 👏

Q: Any thoughts for a future version with multiplayer 1v1? Who expands and conquers faster?
GordonVanDyke —
It’s been discussed and I have a high-level design concept but it’s low on priority.

Q: Will you guys be making more merchandise that I can decorate my house with?
Elisabeth —
We always want to explore more opportunities like that - we had a couple of cool event specific ones at Gamescom and PAX! What kind of merchandise would YOU like to see?

Q: Will there be a new game for co-op eighties? I know I already asked this question but I and most of my friends enjoyed playing the kingdom two crowns game and we will instantly buy the game if there is a co-op (multiplayer) option (btw the game still looks so fun will play it anyways)
Mariela —
We are not considering a co-op for Kingdom Eighties, but don't worry, we will keep supporting Kingdom Two Crowns So you will have the opportunity to enjoy new settings with your friends, along with discovering the story we've been writing for Eighties (where some secrets from Kingdom's lore will be revealed!).

Q: To Gordon (and the team really): How has it been to continue and expand over a concept like Kingdom? I've asked Thomas about it quite some time ago regarding Kingdom, and He told me he left because he felt there it was nothing else to do with the idea. For Him, Kingdom was something simple which (it seems) he never planned to expand upon. And yet Kingdom keeps on implementing significant little tweaks that change the flow of the game in different ways. Do you see the concept reaching some sort of ceiling?
GordonVanDyke —
I’ve loved the challenge, the simplicity of the input with creating complex results from choices is what keep me and the team motivated. Thomas and I are still very close, he’s someone that builds new experiences and I thrive on expanding that experience. We always had great chemistry and we are very protective of the core design philosophy. I don’t see a see a ceiling per say, but I think Kingdom could feel dated at a certain point. We still have some cool stuff to come.

Q: Is there a reason you don't give your Cursed crown goals? It breaks immersion by forcing your players to look outside the game and then also be frustrated that there's not always a clear answer. It feels more like a slight to the players and makes me feel irrationally angry at whoever made the final call to not include it as a defined goal in gene.
Elisabeth —
We know that it can be frustrating, but it is part of the Kingdom experience. Just like with the units, puzzles, and buildings in the game, some players will figure their functions out on their own while some answers will need to be passed on from player to player. Not everyone will be able to get the cursed crown - it is supposed to be a special challenge for the most resolute and determined rulers. I hope you will keep trying!

Q: Is there a possibility that in the future, you may bring back some older tracks from New Lands and Classic OSTs into Two Crowns?
GordonVanDyke —
No, mostly cause of how music contracts work.

Q: Will we ever get the chance to have multiple of one mount in two crowns? the griffin is really good and it's too bad only one player can use it
Elisabeth —
Currently not in our plans unfortunately - some challenge islands will let you do it though!

Q: Hi all. Since there are two spots remaining on the challenge island board, does that mean that there are still two planned? Love the game!
Elisabeth —
i mean there is still a team working on KTC, so... 👀👀👀

Q: Are y'all planning to add things like a scenario editor to the game? By scenario editor I mean an editor where you can edit things like what appears where. Example: Griffon on island five, bakery on island one, an ungodly number of vagrant camps on island 2, etc.
GordonVanDyke —
Not for the current code base, but it’s something we’d like to see in a future version of Kingdom.

Q: Hi. Do you have plans to make cross play?
GordonVanDyke —
We looked into it but our NetCode and PlayFab couldn’t handle it. However, if we do a sequel to KTC we’d built it to support cross play.

Q: Will our lovely season mechanics ever get a makeover?
GordonVanDyke —
Not a makeover, but we are still working on Kingdom Two Crowns and always try to make improvements. IMO Winter isn’t that bad like at release of KTC. Winter was always meant to pose a change to your experience. But again, we’ll always try to improve KTC. P.S. Kingdom Eighties is only summer.

That brings us to a close today, we hope you gained some enlightenment over our answers. You can view the full Q&A in our Discord over in channel #kingdom-question-and-answers
