Kingdom Two Crowns

Patch Update 1.1.14

Dear monarchs!

Thank you so much for being patient whilst we worked through the bug reports and balance recommendations. As always, if you spot any other bugs, please feel free to contact us via our support form.

Furthermore, we'd appreciate any feedback on the balance changes made. We read all your comments and feedback about some aspects of Norse Lands, and we hope we've addressed those causing the most problems.

Here’s what’s new in patch 1.1.14:

Norse Lands balance changes

  • Norse Lands Bankers now have extended working hours.
  • The tree in the Norse Lands Vagrant Camp has sadly died and been cut down.
  • Monarchs can now pay for Shield Walls during the day, allowing for preparation for the night's attack.
  • Reduced the cost for recruiting Berserkers and Berserker Leaders from 6/8 coins to 3/4 coins.
  • Berserkers run faster, jump attack in combat, and have more hit points.
  • Berserkers heal to full health after combat is over.
  • The day 30 blood moon in Norse Lands is now a smaller attack focused on the introduction of the Crusher Greed.
  • The winters of Norse Lands are proving too harsh for the Greed. Wave strength no longer increases during the first two winters.
  • The Crusher greed will now retreat if there are no other Greed on the map, in order to prevent certain scenarios where the player could get soft-locked.

General balance changes

  • Reduced the cost for recruiting citizens at the citizen house from 7 to 5 coins.
  • Builders now walk back to the nearest Kingdom border when they have no more jobs to do.
  • Large groups of Archers will now do a better job at defending the walls.
  • Pikemen can now carry 2 coins.

  • Plague Island has had a balance pass to adjust it to the fixes and balance changes made in the Conquest update.
  • Improved the Archer retreat mechanic so they are more reliable about taking up positions in towers deep in the Kingdom.
  • Masked trolls are a bit less effective against walls.
  • Builders will leave their catapult to repair walls in the mornings.
  • Breeders now throw catapult stones back less often.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused antivirus software to block the game, in some cases causing a fatal error saying “il2cpp failed to load”. The game now has a signed certificate that should prevent this from happening.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players with the system language set to Thai or Arabic to experience infinite saving or game freeze at campaign start.
  • More towers can now be built on each island, so the “I HAVE THE TOWER!” achievement should be easier to unlock. In order to access the new towers, you must start a new island or game.
  • Adjusted the text for the “A journey is better shared” achievement to accurately reflect the unlock conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the game to soft-lock when players paid for the Wall Horn in co-op.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some objects and Greed to fall off the map in a bottomless void, sometimes resulting in neverending blood moons.
  • Hermits should no longer jump off your mount at night if the Monarch is heading towards home.
  • Fixed a visual bug that caused the shields of workers to flicker if they entered the Oil & Fire Tower.
  • Fixed a visual bug that caused the wrong tower model to spawn in Dead Lands.
  • Fixed a visual bug that caused the Forge to spawn below ground in Shogun.
  • Fixed a bug where Norse Lands Berserkers would Rage continuously instead of attacking.
  • Fixed the monarch animation when riding the Sleipnir mount.
  • Additional minor bug fixes and tweaks.

Onward and safe travels! 👑

Kingdom Two Crowns : Working on Steam Trading Cards and here's the emojis we've made so far.

Any suggestions for KTC emojis from our community? Keep in mind we have to make them fit in 18x18 pixels.

Nominate Kingdom: Two Crowns for the Labor of Love category!

Over the past three years we've had the opportunity to build the Kingdom game of our dreams with Kingdom Two Crowns. This wouldn't have been possible without the support from our Steam community. Together we've made this game something special that we can all be proud of. 👑

Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands RELEASE STREAM

Norse Lands Expansion and Conquest Update Arrive!

The waiting is over, for all of us! Thank you for the enthusiastic responses to the things we share. It gives us so much energy to put into the game. We hope you enjoy the results!

Norse Lands fulfills an ambition of ours that has been building for a long time. The fiercely strong culture of the Norse from the Viking era feels like such a strong fit to the design of Kingdom. We really have had a blast putting it together.

The Conquest Update pulls from all the feedback you have made and our learnings during development. Its improvements make this the best time ever to play Kingdom Two Crowns, whatever setting you choose, for new players and seasoned Monarchs.

To say we are excited to bring all this to you hardly describes the feelings. Here are a few thoughts from the game's director, Gordon Van Dyke on the development journey.

Norse Lands is the culmination of so much effort and exploration into everything that makes up Kingdom. A special partnership came together for the work between Fury Studios and Stumpy Squid, with the support of Raw Fury publishing.

Above all, the love and support of the Kingdom community inspired us every day. Without this we could not have persevered to reach this triumphant moment for Kingdom Two Crowns. We hope all that love and passion shines through when you play and brings some joy into everyone’s lives.

Now, go forth, Monarchs, and conquer!

And if you want to conquer together, because everyone knows co-op is awesome, check out this helpful post for two easy ways to connect with other Monarchs.

Dear monarchs! Here’s what’s new in patch 1.1.12:

New biome - Norse Lands: Our first premium DLC is set in a domain inspired by Norse Viking culture 1000 C.E. Norse Lands is a full new campaign that expands the world of Kingdom Two Crowns with a unique setting to build, defend, explore, and conquer. In Norse Lands, players can look forward to unleashing abilities drawn upon from Norse gods, commanding mighty units, building Viking-inspired armaments, solving challenging puzzles, and facing a new enemy Greed.

Citizen house: Do you ever find yourself cutting down trees around vagrant camps and then instantly regretting the choices you’ve made? No need to worry! This patch allows you to build citizen houses from the ruins of a vagrant camp. There, you can always recruit new citizens to defend your Kingdom at an increased price.

Unit behavior changes

  • Units will no longer attack portals unless ordered to do so.
  • The Merchant will now payout at any time of day, but only accept payment to leave the Kingdom if it is safe.
  • The Banker will now payout multiple times a day, so long as the player needs coins and the banker has coins.
  • Archers will now only occupy the towers close to the border of your Kingdom or outside of your Kingdom. Additionally, they will no longer leave the safety of the Kingdom at night to try and enter towers.
  • Speaking of Archers in towers: they now shoot further than archers on the ground, and they will hunt from the tower during the day.
  • Up to eight Pikemen can now defend each border of your Kingdom.
  • Vagrants will now turn into Peasants as soon as they finish eating bread. Rulers can still intercept them with coins to save on bread bills.
  • Armored Greedlings are now stronger and tougher to defeat.
  • Breeders now arrive on time with the rest of the wave, and retreat at dawn instead of dying.

Blood Moon & Retaliation wave changes

  • Fixed an issue where Blood Moons would clear incorrectly, leaving your Kingdom vulnerable and without defenses at the end of the wave.
  • Blood Moons and recovery days are now consistent throughout the game, getting more frequent the longer the game lasts. We also added a minor Blood Moon at the end of the first spring, so you’ll get used to it sooner ;)
  • Daybreak will no longer end the onslaught from Blood Moons and Retaliation waves. Your Kingdom won’t be safe until every Greed has been defeated!
  • Fixed lack of cooldown days after Blood Moons in the Dead Lands biome.
  • Retaliation waves are not as punishing as fast, to allow Rulers more portal destruction action before being accidentally overwhelmed.
  • Portal defense waves grow smoothly over time and become more difficult sooner. You'll need Knights to take portals in the late game because your Squires will die. That’s a promise!

General improvements and bugfixes

  • Ballista towers and catapults are now far more accurate and deadly.
  • The Warhorse ability now triggers on your command and will not happen automatically when you sprint.
  • We know you like to recruit a whole lot of archers and call it a day to feel safe and cozy within your Kingdom walls. Well, our designer Alan wants you to diversify your strategy with more types of units and towers. Your archer army may no longer stand up to the challenge!
  • Decay should be more understandable and less punishing for heirs and returning rulers. Dropped gems no longer decay at all.
  • Fixed an issue with challenge island data. Achieving the cursed crown in all challenges will once again result in your ruler wearing the cursed crown in the campaign.
  • Implemented support for wide and ultrawide screen resolutions.
  • Fixed an issue with Korean translation.

And more!

Norse Lands Demo for Mac & Linux is now live!

It's good to see you again Monarchs, we bring with us good news for those of you on Mac and Linux; the Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands demo is now available!

We heard your calls and readied our armies, and now, before the journey can conclude in full on November 16th, you may explore these initial lands. Take caution, though, as the demo will exist only for a limited time.

Tighten your reigns and trot on; this weekend awaits its new ruler.

The Conquest Update

Monarchs! The free Conquest Update arrives Tuesday, Nov 16th, bringing with it a host of updates and improvements to all the settings of Kingdom Two Crowns (original, Shogun, and Dead Lands). Once installed, all changes will be in effect from both new games and existing saves. Here are some highlights to get you excited for and thinking about your next reign.

Firstly, the Citizen House. This new structure provides a solution for recruiting new citizens after clearing out a vagrant camp. Maybe you want to make a clean-looking kingdom. Perhaps you accidentally cleared around your last camp. Whatever the reason, vagrant camp ruins can now be rebuilt into a Citizen House. Once constructed, it will provide a ready source of new citizens, albeit at a higher cost.

Next, Archers! We told them to stop wandering out to towers at night. While we were at it, we encouraged them not to man towers that were really far from the borders either. They'll now abandon towers that end up too deep in your Kingdom and look for something useful to do. We kindly instructed them how to take advantage of their height to shoot farther, and they'll also hunt from their tower during the daytime now, making better use of their spare time. Don't get too overconfident in their improvements, as an all-archer army might not stand up as well as it used to.

Lastly, balance changes. Catapults and ballista towers have improved accuracy and damage (very satisfying in action). We refined the way Blood Moon and Retaliation waves work. They'll no longer clear incorrectly, leaving your Kingdom defenceless and vulnerable. Enemy waves will cycle between Blood Moons and recovery waves more consistently; expect Blood Moons to get more frequent as the game goes on. Greed now defend Portals with more fervour as well, and you can expect them to ramp up their response as you get further into the game: you're going to be needing those trusty knights!

Those are just a few gameplay highlights that we believe will vastly improve your experience. On top of gameplay changes, we have tech updates and upgrades. Let's just say players with wide and ultrawide monitors will get an improved overview of their Kingdom. Monarchs, prepare to reign over your best Kingdom ever.

Until next time, safe travels.

A warm welcome to you, our new Monarchs!

Welcome royalty, one and all. Dismount and take a seat by the hearth where we shall tell tales of adventures past. Hopefully, you will be wiser once you leave. We want to thank you for taking this journey; you and 10,000 new travellers have quickly entered our lands!

We really hope you'll enjoy what you see and, if so inclined, make the journey to our Norse Lands on the 16th of November. Perhaps even take a peek at what's in store with our game demo.

Not ventured forth but are interested? Well... There's a 60% sale on steam right now; what would be a better time than now to check it out, especially with Norse Lands out next week. If you don't wish to go alone, invite a friend. Two Crowns can be played co-op; share your experiences together.

Looking for folks to play with? Well, look no further as we'll be setting up a system on our official Discord where you will be able to create chat and voice rooms for your session and ping folks who're interested in playing. More information on how this will work will be released later this week.

You can check out our tomes of knowledge on our events page (especially if you're hungry for more details about Norse Lands and The Conquest Update). We welcome you to share with us your excitement on the Steam forums and across social media.

Until we talk soon, safe travels.

Norse Lands and Conquest Update Available November 16

Norse Lands

Norse Lands comes as a big moment for us. Living and working in Sweden the Scandinavian spirit runs strong. Its cultural heritage for survival and exploration felt like such a natural fit as we continued to explore new settings and cultures for the game. Everything finally aligned and we set about making a complete Viking experience drawn from those influences that keeps the core of what makes Kingdom fun.

The result is Norse Lands, a new full campaign inspired by the Viking culture of 1000 C.E.. Players can look forward to leading a strong people where everyone takes up arms to join the fight, unleash powers drawn from the legends of Norse gods, command mighty units, build Viking-inspired armaments, solve challenging puzzles, and face a new enemy type that has joined the Greed.

Conquest Update

During the development of Norse Lands we went through all your feedback and added it to our own wishlist for improvements to make in the game. This work resulted in a number of welcome changes and improvements that we wanted for all the settings in Kingdom Two Crowns. We’re calling it the Conquest update. It is a free update available to everyone with the game at the same time that Norse Lands comes out.

Here are some things to look forward to. There is the new Citizen House that can be built on the ruins of a vagrant camp that gives you a ready supply of new citizens - at a cost of coin. The townspeople received coaching to address some of their annoying habits. As a result, they are now better at their jobs. Battle also sees refinements, including the pace of enemy waves, unit balance, decay, and this is just to name a few. Check out developer blog posts if you are interested in more details about the gameplay updates. The complete patch notes will be available shortly on the forums so keep an eye out for those as well.

Get ready, Monarch, your best Kingdom yet awaits.

For Norse Lands we wanted the monuments to feel more epic and fantastical. The pixel art for these by Franek breathes life into this in such a special way!
