Hi all. With the Degica Games Weekend Sale going on, this seemed like a good time to announce that I've begun work on a GameMaker port of Labyrinthine Dreams. While the port is primarily a means for me to learn GameMaker, it will add some nice new features.
GameMaker Port Features
MacOS port. GameMaker makes it easy to port games to other platforms. It's possible we'll be looking into porting the game to additional platforms but for now we're sticking to Windows and MacOS (other platforms require additional licensing fees).
Increased Resolution. GameMaker doesn't have restrictions on resolution. The original title was designed around 640x480 so not too much will change initially, but I will try to work in the high-rez cutscene pictures.
[*']Localization. Because I have to build a custom message system for the port, I'm considering having text called in from an .ini file. This means it will be possible now to localize the text into different languages and call in the string based on language setting.
Misc improvements. I'll have to rebuild all the game maps in GameMaker which means I'll be making small improvements to certain areas to make them a bit more intuitive (Forest Maze 2 anyone?).
Additional Content? It's possible I'll be adding additional mazes that were not possible in the RMVX Ace engine. If I do, these will likely be bonus mazes that are accessible via the start menu and won't be part of the main storyline.
Here is a very early picture of the forest maze entr which is the first map I've implemented into GameMaker:
A lot of things I've taken for granted in RPG Maker are a pain in the butt to do in GM. That said, I love working in the engine and I'm excited to get more systems in place. I'll post another update once I have more noteworthy progress to share.
Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to see in the GM port in the comments. :)
Till next time!
Version 2.3 Now In Beta -- Fullscreen Fix!
The promised fix to the fullscreen issue has been implemented into the beta of version 2.3. You can toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode now using F5 ANYTIME in-game. You can also switch the aspect ratio using F6.
There have also been some other changes to prepare the game for porting to other platforms. One you may notice is the change to the System Options. While the change seems minor, it affected how we check if "Voice Acting" is toggled. In updating this, all previous Autosave files will no longer work.
You'll receive the following error if trying to play an old game file: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6954576/Screenshot%202015-06-16%2011.45.28.png
That's why the game will remain in beta for the time being. After the Steam Summer Sale is over and activity has died down, I'll be moving it to the public branch.
If you want to play the new patch with the fullscreen fix before then, you'll have to opt into the beta. You can do this by right clicking the game in your Steam Library, selecting Properties and going to the Beta tab. From there, you can select the BETA from the dropdown.
Enjoy!
60% Permanent Price Drop!
I want to thank everyone who purchased Labyrinthine Dreams since its release. It seems most of those who reviewed the game had a positive experience. :)
Over time, I noticed a pattern of players that appreciated the game but felt the sticker price was a bit high. Based on feedback, I decided to permanently drop the price of the game (and soundtrack) to $1.99. This price won't go up again and on sales will be at most 50% off.
Note: The price change will take effect later today as it's still pending approval.
I'm hoping this means more gamers on a budget who would have otherwise passed it over will pick it up on an impulse and play it. We never expected to get rich on this title but the more we sell the more we can put towards our next project. There's also that perceived value of game time to cost that hopefully the price reduction resolves.
Thanks again for the support! Should have a patch announcement in the upcoming weeks.

50% off for our Kickstarter Anniversary!
One year ago, our Kickstarter for Labyrinthine Dreams was successfully funded. We went into that with a lot of uncertainty but thanks to our great crew of backers, we made it over the finish line and had our tiny $6,000 budget. It was a triumphant moment that can still give a warm and fuzzy feeling when we think about it. Even though the game was small and designed so that we could realistically give it a major overhaul, we still underestimated the amount of work involved to pull that off. Possible release dates came and went, but eventually we were rewarded for our perseverance with gorgeous art and a beautiful original soundtrack.
So if any of our backers happen to read this, thank you once again! But of course, they already got their free copies. This special 50% off sale is for everyone else! As developers on Steam, we have access to a lot of random data about our game and I can see right now that over 2,000 of you have this game on your wishlist! If you were waiting for the price to go down, now is your chance! Get it while the getting's good!
